Well Michy inspire,of losing her so early, I think the real gift these people like Janis bring to us all, Is that no matter how tortured she was, The amount they make thereselves available to us all, Is that we do really know them inside and out, even if we are left to watch her, self destruct,. Folks like her charisma, gives us a glimpse into there actual struggles.
Her birthday was the day before mine so I'd always celebrate ours together but mine was minus the heroin. I loved this interview of hers, especially after hearing that she and Dick here had an intimate night later on! Good for them! I still love this singer and celebrate Janis every 1-19th!
Very sweet person. You can see her reach out and touch Cavett after she insulted his shoes. It's hard to hear but I'm almost sure she was apologizing to him for it. She suffered a lot and didn't have the heart to hurt anyone.
Man it's so sad when she explains how they laughed her out of Texas. You just wanna punch all those idiots that didn't understand a girl who identified with art and the blues. She was just born into the wrong world!
journeythruthepast I hate they did that too. I think if they had been supportive she would never have overdosed. Mean bastards. Things would be different for her today. She would be accepted. I think she was a fragile person and most great artists are like that. I know people that perform and have awful stage anxiety so they do drugs to relax or have confidence. I also live in the Deep South and I am sorry to report the awful people that hurt her are still here, it is just their spoiled grandsons all grown up that are just like their great grandfathers.
my Uncle grew up with her in Port Arthur Texas. she would visit all the time. it destroyed him when she died. they'd been very close since age 13 or so.
@@wheelie642I don’t think he was making it to awkward I like how real and to the point his convos are like it doesn’t seem super professional more relaxed and she seemed to feel at ease in his company
I was 12 yrs old when Janis died. I would listen to her sing on the radio station broadcasting out of Detroit. My dad who was a minister said that she sounded like an ally cat. I just knew that she sounded so different from the other female singers of this time period. She sang & her voice was so passionate. As a 12 yr old girl I did not understand what she sang about but I knew she had this incredible voice that would explode from her little body. Such power & talent.
She is so soft spoken and genuine. You can see her hands shaking after having performed a number, you can tell she was just so amped up and just so nervous to sit down and talk after singing her heart out. What an absolute gem. What a cool cat, man. Rest in peace, Janis.
@@ironbird72 Coke doesn't do that to you. Been through that addiction. No sir, that's pure adrenaline. Notice she isn't shaking anymore after about a minute. But thanks for playing!
@@coreypatterson1007 Have you ever been high as fuck? I have! That's not what happens to you. She's on pure adrenaline. Notice she's no longer shaking after about a minute. But thanks for playing!
I swear this woman has the frickin cutest personality ever!! Janis and Dick seemed to gel together so well. I think she is such a beautiful soul. I remember seeing the clip of her going to the reunion. Felt just horrible because as tough as she was, you could see the moment at the reunion, when all them old feelings came rushing back to her. Janis, you kicked ass and we love you!!
She was so beautiful and sweet. I've read so many stories about how she was so kind to people and fans. She took people under her wing. She was a complete paradox of girl next door and wild child. I wished I couldve met her, she was wonderful... Her music is beautiful. I wear a copy of her wristlet tattoo on my wrist with pride xxxx
every time I stumble across JJ in an interview, press piece, etc. , not just singing, I'm reminded how she was just a really cool lady with great demeanor and character. RIP Janis, still missing you almost 50 years later.
Oh Janis, I just don't think people get to see her like this too often , she was so adorable and just so talented we just don't realize she was only 26 to 27 years old, I'm so glad Dick Cavett was so cool to her and she felt comfortable enough to make many appearances and perform a lot of really good live tunes!
She spent the last hours of her short life waiting on two friends to come visit her. Both of whom stood her up and didnt even call to tell her they wouldn't make it. She was a lonesome soul. You can never mend a lonesome soul. No amount of love, attention, or friendship can fill that gap. And no one around her could understand why. But some spirits are too good for this world. Hers has been free for 50 years now.
I think respect is what she wanted from those in her H.S. , elementary and Jr high. They , especially the boys in those Texas classes treated her very cruelly and spread lies about her. Her so called friends at that time didn't stand with her and defend her, nor did her parents OR teachers intervene. She had to deal with enormous amounts of cruelity from a lot of people alone starting when she was a very small kid and graduating H.S. And yeah she stood her ground. But just think if even one classmate had defended her, stood up for her and been loyal to her. They hammered her on her looks, respecting black people and yeah she wouldn't give in to the boys and have sex with them, until she made that choice, so the hypocrites called her degrading sexual names, and everyone believed them.. She just might be alive even today, if someone had defended her when she was a kid.
On stage she was a powerful and confident woman.Doing interviews, she was a fun and slightly nervous young girl.Just 2 facets of the many faceted woman we all love, miss and respect.
She was so bullied and intimidated and abused by her school peers, she was a pure soul with an incredible fire to be someone. She certainly was a huge great some ONE! RIP.
There is such and inner sadness and innocence to Janis - miss her. I wonder if she had ever found real love - would she have gotten lost in drugs and died so young. :(
Jeez! She was so goddamn adorable and down to earth. If you didn't know she was a rock star, you'd think she was your next door neighbor. She has that girl next door quality just pouring out of her. R.I.P. Janis
people can be so mean to call her the names they did Janis was such a talented lady I still remember the day she passed away she went so fast RIP sweet Janis
I saw the reunion she talks about. Nobody talked to her, they looked and laughed, it was heartbreaking to see, I saw 10 years ago and still think about it. she seems vulnerable, sweet
I like the way she described herself as a beatnik. I came up with beatniks, I was a child in the ‘60’s and they were cool people, I liked the way they snapped their fingers when they talked and called everybody daddy-o and cat. Janis was a flower child. She had so much love to give and not everybody wanted it, like those people who laughed her out of class. They were probably singing a different tune when she made it big. I know one thing, though; she wouldn’t have laughed at them.
I’ve been cleaning houses in Denver for 30 years . About 20 years ago or so, I was cleaning her sister Laura’s house fur a couple years . It was cool. She had gold records of Janice’s hanging on the wall, and letters she wrote home , which Laura used, to write her book ‘ Love,Janice’ I have a autographed copy.
So much respect for her. No other female singer quite like her 💜 these 2 have the best chemistry, surely a romantic connection 😍 I just love the way they flirt ❤
HE REALLY LIKED HER, AND SHE TOOK TO HIM. HE SHOULD HAVE WENT WITH HER, SHE WAS SINCERE. THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME SPIRIT. WHAT A DUO, HE IS WHAT SHE NEEDED TO GROUND HER, A REAL FRIEND. SHE WASN'T WILD, SHE WAS LONELY AND LOST.
She was just a baby here, so natural, the coolest chick you would want to know. She was highly intelligent, so smart. No talk show is as natural as this, especially having the singer breathing heavy after their performace. You can feel her pain and awkwardness here. Lovely person, lots of pain from her childhood. So sorry shes gone.
2:34 - 5:54 - 7:13 My God! Her expression, and those blue eyes... WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN! I get chills every time I see it, and I always pause the movie because it’s amazing. In my opinion, Janis could also have been an excellent actress if she had also embarked on a film career.
This episode changed my life. I was a kid when it first aired, saw a moment of it as my mom and sister were watching and never forgot her look. As a young, budding gay boy, she was my Judy Garland and Bette Midler all rolled into one. Will never understand why she didn't become a gay icon. By the time it reran, she was dead, i was already a fan and was allowed to stay up on a school night to watch. Thanks mom.
@Scarlett P. No, Janis’ estate didn’t hide anything. A biography published by her sister Laura says she and some other beatniks had same-sex relationships in the early 1960s. The book by Laura was first published in 1992. Dorothy Joplin, mother of Janis and Laura, was alive in 1992 and could have read the book. She never expressed resentment over Laura making public the beatniks’ same-sex experiences.
I wish I would of known her I would of been her bass player and I would of asked her out for sure she's adorable. miss you Janis. She was awesome. Great gal.
Dick Cavett was a great interviewer, but I always really resonate with his knowing of all these fun little details about his subject... It's like I always feel that he is sincerely invested in the person that he's talking to.... That's so refreshing to see, ironically enough
Something in her eyes captivates me. I never noticed it when she is performing, but just sitting and talking with people, there is something. And man, if she could have known how much love the masses would have for her... Breaks me heart that she dies so young, without finding true love or knowing how much people would love her.
I wonder if she made it to her highschool reunion and if she did how they treated her. It must have been heartbreaking for her at times. Even when she told the limo story she said she preferred riding in the front with the driver. She was a special soul
Kenny Black she made it to the reunion but it didn’t go very well, her class mates pretty much shunned her, the reporters and journalists there made her feel uncomfortable and she didn’t have a great time. She sadly passed away very shortly after the reunion.
@@prisvideos8919 It is heartbreaking that a gentle heart and fun personality could be broken by former classmates. I wondered if she made it and secondly if she had, did the way they treated her maybe contribute to her death. Peer pressure and needing acceptance can really hurt a kind soul. Thank you for answering my question. It Is very much appreciated.
Hendrix returned for a visit to Seattle in, I believe 1968, and played at his old high school, I was reminded of that when Janis said she was planning to attend her 10 year high school reunion in Texas.
I read about it last night in bed in her Biography about her first vacation not on Hero and the high school reunion. Strange nice to see her and her talking about it. Hail Janis
I’ve never seen her interviewed before.. I love her she is quirky and sharp and very down to earth! I don’t know what you think but there are hugely talented artists out there who would still be here now if they remained studio artists .. and did the tour now and then .. back in the 70s there wasn’t Spotify etc ..
That's a true shame the evil hurtfulness of people who teased and tormented her named her the homeliest man in school She made it went back and rubbed it Sadley she wasnt able to kick the heroin, Janis live on in her music
I was born in 1969...and I love her free spirit. Gone too young Janis....and Jim Morrison from the Doors. Dick Cavett treated her sooo respectfully. Good on ya Dick. A real gentleman. She was soooout of breath probably after all that heroin abuse. But he was so kind. He asked her to recover after she got her breath back. What a beautiful man. He respects women.😊
Dick Cavett was very good but I often had the impression that he wasn't comfortable when he interviewed his guests. Janis was a great interview in my opinion.
