I don't know why I am writing this in third person. I am Gus. I wrote this. My brother is Sven Johnson, that guy's alright. Kid had the right idea, he already had a job lined up when he graduated. You can talk shit on the janitor, but they get good bennies and the job is fairly stable. Not a lot of hires/fires. Gives you a fantastic safety net while you pursue higher ed or trade training.

We had this guy in his 30s, googly eyed, super thrilled about old radio and TV equipment, could effortlessly tear apart and fix any electronics that wasn't a computer, still works there today over 15 years later and the school even allowed him to open up a electronics museum in an unused room in the school a few years back.

Yeah I had a janitor like that. He was loved by everybody and would play music for classes when I was in elementary school, he even went on american idol at some point. When I went to high school, he remembered me from way back in elementary school which I never expected and after that would always let my friends and I stay on the bball court a little extra time after it was supposed to close.

I was a jannie for a while as a college student, I'd work 30 mins on a 12 hour shift. Rest of time I spent playing video games or on my phone. Only so much cleaning you need to do in a day. So I can see how youd be bored out of your mind before the internet. It's a very chill job.

I had to serve an in-school suspension once with our janitor in high school. I remember he picked me up from the office in the morning and was being all professional with the staff. Then as we left the office and were walking towards our first job of the day he goes "So I heard you had to serve this because you called the headmaster a cocksucker, right?" Me, being 16 and thinking he was just any other adult at my school started panicking trying to clear my name but before I could get a word in he goes: "oh wait, that was me." Needless to say, the suspension ended up being a pretty fun day.

The comment about the black students is very relatable to people who grew up in rural areas before the 2010's. I didn't see a black person in real life until 2008. We aren't racist about it but we do notice when there are a lot of black people because growing up they were like finding a four leaf clovers.

When I was in 2nd grade in the 90's I brought my Lego X wing to school to show it off, the janitor stopped by our classroom that day and said " wow! Big Lego fan huh? Come with me for a minute" bro took me to his office and he was stacked with all these crazy awesome sets on his shelves. I lit up as a kid obviously but that was the first time I met an adult that was a serious Lego fan like that. He still worked there my last year in 6th grade and everyone respected him.
