I had the brother pc800 embroidery/sewing from 20+ yrs ago. It was very much used and loved. I purchased the 9850 and, while waiting for it to be delivered, I was having buyers remorse and planing to return it. My kids are adults and I don't think I would use the embroidery function, perhaps a non embroidery model would be best. But this video changed my mind. I do plan to quilt and I see this would come in handy. So, I am going to keep the 9850 after all. thank you!!!
Thanks, this is really helpful I have not seen many good training examples for the Janome Skyline series. I have the S9 and I LOVE it! It is the combined sewing and embroidery version. I am a Janome fan anyway as they are so good quality (it is a hefty beast). Both the embroidery and sewing sections are fantastic and I really appreciate the way the embroidery arm is at the back of the machine rather than at the side. The embroidery attachment is so easy to put on. You have opened my eyes to some of the projects I had not yet considered.
The 9850 would have been a great machine if they never took the knee lifter away when they rebranded it from the MC9900 to the MC9850. I own the S5 and the MC9900. Love both of my machines and they both have a knee lifter.
I am Very happy with my S5!!!! I looked at the S3, but my dealer showed me that the S3 had the "insides" of the Smaller Janome's. Whereas the S5 has the "insides" (framework/power) of the larger Janome's. I would have loved to have the Janome with the larger throat space, but I just couldn't do the price three years ago when I bought my S5. In the long run, this machine has been a workhorse! I have been more than satisfied with it! I Can "quilt" with this throat space, but I won't do a queen-size quilt on it. I Have done baby and throw-size quilts on it tho. Anything else, I send out to have side-to-side quilted.

I just got a Janome 9850. I wanted the S5 but then I saw this one. I'm definitely not happy with the needle threader. I have worked with it for hours and probably got it to actually thread the needle 3 times. I actually decided on the 9850 after watching your video so thank you. You do such a good job. But now with the needle threader not working I'm wondering if I should choose another machine. I still have my 10 year old BabyLock sewing/embroidery (4" hoop) and it has never not threaded the needle. Are your classes offered online? Would love to learn some of your great skills! Thank you. You are so wonderfull and helpful and well explained. I owe a memory craft 8000. I use to do alot before now at retiring age want to get back in to playing again and be createfull. Unfortunately my 8000 lost its panel lighting and having a hard time seeing the stitches. I was told i can get a replacement for it but not having much luck. I really would like to fix it for now if possible and see whether i want to start this hobby again. So your tutorial comes down to the price i guess for me to make a choice or if im going to be using embroidery. I am torn in which to pick as like you said once you start to make things you want to do more. I only have one grandson at this stage and humming and hurring which way to go here. What do you suggest for me pls. Thks

Q: Just received a 9850 as a gift. I can sew a straight stitch line! I would like to embroider with the machine. What do you recommend for a stabilizer for the hoop? Can you please discuss stabilizer for the hoop, as well as what a top stabilizer is?

I have bought this machine MC9850 at the beginning of lockdown and I absolutely hate it!! I just can't work it. Is there an online class I can take? The simplest of jobs and it jams up!! Hate it hate it hate it.
I just got the mc9850, I have had brothers in the past. I have tried for 2 days and can't get the bobbin thread to stop skipping. I was about to box it back up and return it, watching your video, I realized I really want it. Do you think the automatic tension is not right? or am i doing something wrong?
