never did i imagine there could be a youtuber who laser-focused in on my weird little niche of mysterious jogos and underappreciated digital atmosphere, but here you are, doing god's work
Well, would you look at that, i was preparing my "WHERE IS THE NAMELESS GAME" mandatory text but here we are, that game is actually in a horror ds games compilation.
Mushishi is so good, I feel like it deserves way more critical and commercial acclaim and yet at the same time I’m glad it’s relatively unknown, I’ll have to check out the game someday.
For the longest time, I thought I hallucinated Contact. I couldn't remember the name of the game and just thought maybe my brain had dreamed up some modern day RPG.
That entire love plus segment would have been a shitshow if this was literally any other youtuber. I'm always surprised but mostly happy about how open minded and thoughtful you are about so many aspects of life, motivates me to become a better person. Fucking banger of a video man, Imma be a shitass hipster boy and say that I'm glad that I discovered your channel before the super eye patch wolf shoutout. Much love brother
Too bad they don't follow the story of the PC games about a crazed man (or Woman) who has a questionable family who they force to live in the basement painting for cash. And killing their neighbors by locking them in rooms with fireworks and other fire dangers... Oh wait. That was my story.
As someone that Emulated their way through highschool it's nice seeing a lot of these games mentioned. I've been through a LOT of the DS' library, and it's honestly a fun little collection of games to sift through that we never got over seas. Great video.
@@Wykesidefruitmachine I follow a twitter account that posts when games have an anniversary and i had just gotten off twitter when i saw this video lmao
So glad I found your channel. I always like to turn my brain off to long essay videos on video games, and your voice and delivery is just so satisfying. Thanks for existing!
Every time you hit us with the chart I get a very, VERY strong wish to see a Grasshopper video from you. At the very least a Contact video. That game is either wonderfully weird or weirdly wonderful, which I feel is soooooo on brand for you.
your vids are the best my man. so thought provoking and nostalgic in the best way. immediately start talking to close friends about all those little things that makes these medias special to us
I purchased a soft modded dsi XL with twilight a month ago. So many unique games for DS its astonishing, especially knowing theres ones that are now playable, thanks to fan translations.
You should do one of these video for the original Xbox. There are some pretty rare and obscure Japanese Xbox titles. Braveknight, Tenerezza, Dennou Taisen, ExaSkeleton, Magatama or Natural Ultimate Digital Experiment.
I literally clicked on this video from the sidebar recommendations of the Fatal Frame 3 video from Shitstorm 1. If anyone's ever looking for a single playlist of every Shitstorm season, I got you covered here. ru-vid.com/group/PLET27xThWG67pjBpLS8ZdOBcI3bvFMpA_. I did take out all the videos that were part of separate full LPs, though.
Love your channel bud but both Dementium games was released in North America on the ds and was actually my first video game reviews on its first release though it super cringy now so I might have to remake it.
Yeah, bustin' out, Sims 2, both got great story on the GBA. Sims 2 Pets is fun too but the gameplay mechanic was kinda crappy and *that control tho* Yeah, what an unfortunate turn of event
I notice it in other videos on this channel too, but I really enjoy the way you put together your sentences in this video in particular. Like, sometimes I don't understand what's being said, but then it clicks just in time and I can't help but think, wow, I've never in my life heard that sort of thought articulated in that sort of way before. And I mean that in a good way; it's very clever writing, I dig it.
Definitely influenced by growing up with it, but DS is still my favourite console by a long shot. The sheer install base, combined with the more or less PS1 era hardware (making development affordable) led to an incredibly large amount of quirky, experimental games. It was kind of a unique moment in mainstream video games that I somewhat doubt we will see again.
indeed, with more hardware come the push for much less experimental games, also because people wont pay 5$ for any of these games presented here where as all these were at least 20 if not 40 back then.
For better or worse (usually worse ngl) the lax standards of the switch and it's handheld nature have made it a go-to choice for lots of indie stuff so, in a sense, the embers of those experimental days are still kindling. Nowadays with the 4K generation in full swing, i'd say the future of low barrier to entry console stuff is looking grim
I forgot to comment about it on the day the video came out, but anyway: It's kinda interesting to me how the Tingle game and the Love-de-Lic legacy games in general have that Takeshi Kitano film vibe. A lot of humor, silly adventures galore, weirdos finding each other in the wild, but with overall central themes that are deep as deep can be. I've the impression that you're not a movie guy at all, at least not in the traditional OOH YAS I'M ZE CINEPHILE, but I highly recommend giving a chance to Kitano's work, specially Kikujiro and Sonatine. Keep on rockin', Mr. ThorSaltosAltos.
Jump SuperStars was my first import and I adored it enough that I preordered Jump Ultimate Stars from some Japanese dude on eBay, hooked me up real good getting it pretty much release day. Probably spent a good 3 years playing on/off unlocking everything only to spend my 30s wondering how I managed to have the patience to figure out all the menus (and how to pair up dialogue to panels in the first game).
In my baby days I went through 2 DS Lites and finally received the Mario 25th Anniversary red DSi XL for Christmas, after begging my parents for it from watching the commercials on TV (you know the one - with the kids hijacking the school play to ask their parents for it). I still remember, they made a scavenger hunt out of it, I had to go all around the house finding notes with little riddles until I finally found it in, of all places, the dryer. Well over a decade later, I still have that same system, and it's still chugging on strong, despite the original stylus being so worn that it just falls out if you pick the system up at an angle (though I NEVER LOST IT, FUCK YEAH. I did lose the big fountain pen stylus though, but c'mon, there was nowhere to put it), and the display hinge being worn to the point the screen will just wobble back and forth if you let it, it still works, and the original battery surprisingly holds a very good charge still. I've installed custom firmware that allows me to play most .NDS roms from the SD card without issue, and is still in active development to fix existing bugs. If you want though, you can boot into the original firmware on the system, and find all my relics of childhood days. Pictures of little idiot me in the DSi Camera app, flipnotes I saved off of Flipnote Hatena that truly serve as a time capsule, the Four Swords Adventures DSiWare release that was available for free for about a month, the Brain Age DSiWare games that I despised and never played, and some other dinky DSi shovelware from when I actually used Club Nintendo (RIP). In my opinion the DSi XL is still the absolute best way to experience DS games, running at original resolution on the surprisingly vibrant screen, tinny speakers, and gunky plastic overlay of the touch screen. I absolutely love this system.
the sims 2 on the ds was my life!! as a kid i found the spooky strange town vibes so creepy along with the alien dissections you get to do later on, so fun and unexpected from the series as i knew it as a naive 8 year old. glad you covered it, more ppl should give it a try
I remember being obsessed with watching vids of the Bobobobo characters in Jump Smash when I was younger because I was like ohhhhhhh BOBOBO FIGHTER!!!!!
I gotta tell u .man. its 7 am and im listening to my best friend snore, I can't sleep but I don't care. I'm just happy to be alive. Your videos have gotten me through some of the most fucked up absolutely depressing times in my life. I am thankful that u and ur videos exist. Thank you so much man really I have no words to describe how glad I am that I can't watch your videos
for most high school the DS was the only console I had and it keep being my main console well into college, so I played SO many of these obscure games, it really shaped a lot of my taste for weird, not super polished but charming games, having a never seemingly never ending source them that I would play on my trustful R4 flashcard great console, great games, great video
I am about to try Chibi-Robo: Clean Sweep! I came here to see some good Japanese exclusive games. That Dragon Ball game caught my attention, it looks so crisp! Already have some games from this video. DS visuals remind me of PS1 but they are still different in their own way.
"Emulates flawlessly too" - My brain flash backing to time when I needed the thing to emulate well, just after selling my DS and gaining regret for it - realizing how ass it emulated in like 2010 or something. Dumb teenkid problems. Weird circle when you end up buying back your gamecube and DS, with it's flashcart, from people you sold them to originally.
My MacDonald’s employment experience was a different kind of nightmare. Everything you said was true but the coworker experience. It’s full of people who either had a shot at a future but got pulled off track somewhere, and people who taught me what “below average” really meant. I had to change the way I spoke to them in order for them (native English speakers) to understand me I don’t want to say that in an elitist way, I grew up in an upper middle class upbringing… it was my first experience with people who had basically no privilege and it changed how I look at the less fortunate
I’m actually a huge fan of Sonic Chronicles. I don’t like the bad reputation it has. I’m pretty sure people just haven’t given it a shot or heard that one central city song.
Being in like 8 when Pokemon HGSS released is DEFINITELY the greatest humanity timing. better then being a kid to watch the moon landing or anything else. ... ... ... Ya I peak when I was 8 but it was damn worth it
i’m really happy too to have grown up with the ds, one of my fave childhood memories is everyone bringing their ds and pokemon games on the last day of school and trading pokemon at our little fifth grade graduation party :,)
Fuck I thought I knew the entire ds library but you always manage to show some cool games I didn't know about, hope you can manifest some fantranslations for some of them like with racing lagoon
Never stop making content dude you're 100% my favorite video game talker man on the internet. I love your music and I love your videos so keep up the good work 😊😊😊.
Though it's not a Japan only release, I think you would get a lot out of Solatorobo on the DS. Ridiculously charming RPG action beat em up with the crustiest sound and sprites you'll ever seen and controls that had me fearing for my console's life.
I played that Retro Game Center CX game aka Retro Game Challenge before I was even familiar with the show and Arino. The game was bassically offbrand Namco Museum/ Nintendo sampler, with games becoming more complex. This game lets you experience getting excited for new games and reading magazines for tips and cheats. The sequel got a fan translation.
I’m not far into this video at all, but the dual dual screen format is genius, thor. Such an engaging idea. Gives me p l a y e r c h o i c e of what i wanna see too. dope shit
