Hachiko, a dog who has become world famous for loyalty to his owner, was born 100 years ago on November 10, 1923. To celebrate his birthday in 2023, locals and foreigners alike have been queuing up to snap photos with a bronze statue of Hachiko in the Japanese capital Tokyo. For a century, Japan has retold the story of how the faithful hound waited at Shibuya station for his master to return home, returning every day even after the owner died.

I was able to visit this statue In Japan. Although not a dog my wife went there to honor her black cat Boo-boo who was her faithful companion for 19 years. Even when he went blind he always waited at the door for her to come home. Thank you Hachiko & Happy Birthday!

There is a viral video right now in the philippines. Its about a dog named "kilay". Kilay was adopted by a ship's crew member until the company went bankrupt and the dog's owner had to return home. He abandoned the dog at the pier. The dog stayed at the pier everyday, standing to look at every boat that docks hoping to see his owner again. One day the city pound caught the dog. The dog was staying in a cage with a view of the waters. The city pound employees would notice the dog would immediately stand up and wag its tail and bark whenever a ship or boat passed by. The employees took pity of the dog and released the dog and brought it back to the piers. While there, the people around fed and cared for the dog who was still waiting for its owner. One day a boat docked and the dog saw the port workers trying to pull the huge, heavy rope to anchor the boat. The dog decided to help by helping to pull the rope. And now, he is considered as one of the port workers. He would help pull the rope everytime a ship docks. He does this while still waiting for his owner to return and still waiting to be be reunited.

Hachi deserves his fame and immortality, but in reality, most dogs are as loyal to their owners.

Being kind to dogs is so much better than being kind to humans. Dogs are too loyal to a fault. Theyre non-judgemental, non-hypocritical. Theyre honest, emphatic and non-scheming. Things that most humans are not

I think the Scot have similar story. For those interested, that dog has a statue in a cemetery where few known Harry Potter characters are buried. Greyfriars Bobby is the name and the cemetery is in Edinburg.

Hachiko and Richard Gere formed a wonderful pairing of dog and owner. I was teary-eyed during both the movie and the original story about Hachiko’s birth in Ueno, Tokyo. Hachi’s memory is still remembered after 100 years of his birth.

Hachiko was cared for by a man named Kobayashi, who tended the garden at Professor Ueno's house. Hachiko commuted from his house to the station.
