Fun facts:The most visited country by Koreans is Japan and the most visited country by Japanese is Korea As you know, there are so many fights on the Internet like this video’s comment, but at the end of the day, the connection between the two countries is very very deep
@@QWER-wv5kn To begin with, Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea was only fought by 25% of Japan's total forces. Of the 80,000 Japanese troops killed, half died of starvation and disease, and only the remaining 40000 died fighting. Meanwhile, China lost 36,000 soldiers and Korea 200,000. Including civilians, the death toll in the Chinese-Korean alliance exceeded one million. The year after the Korean invasion, the Battle of Sekigahara, the largest in Japanese history, took place, so the failure of the Korean invasion did not have that great an impact on Japan.
Japan is a country of "Manuals." Japanese people act upon orders and are comfortable with rigid bureaucratic traditions. Koreans are the very opposite. Koreans tend to be much more spontaneous. It means that Koreans would demand the government to change and catch up with the latest technology for the convenience of people. Natural disaster seems like a plausible reason, but the government system would be digitalized if it was for natural disasters. There are Korean experts who are hired to build digital infrastructures for the Japanese government, and they said it is nearly impossible for Japan to change because there are too many unnecessary steps in the bureaucracy. Japanese people follow rules even if the rule itself is crooked. Koreans overthrow rules and authorities if they are unreasonable. This is why Japan is slow at digitizing. The reasons are in societal and cultural rigidity. You know it is easier to identify missing people if the system was digitalized in case of natural disasters.
Koreas’ development focuses on the efficiency towards consumers. Everything is done quick and concise as it developed to satisfy the efficiency of current/present needs. Japanese technology is faces rather futuristic and puts its direction towards the future as leading robotics and etc. Their direction towards is different. How can you describe two branches of development similarly

Traditional Korean food is not spicy at all. This is because there were no red peppers in the Joseon Dynasty. As for kimchi, white kimchi is originally a traditional kimchi and does not use red pepper at all. Even now, there are no foods containing red pepper in Korean ancestral rites.
ya true, i'm Japanese who studied history of foods in my hs, traditional korean foods are really different from what ppl come up when they think abt Korean foods. actually why are Korean foods nowadays simplified and having so much of red peppers? and I can say it also the case in my country. ppl don't even eat or cook traditional foods cuz it takes so many steps and much times
@@gallusgallusdomesticus235 Even now, there are far more non-spicy Korean foods. It's just an illusion that you have only spicy food left in your head.
As a Japanese, honestly there are a lot of things to change in terms of tech. However the problem is that Japanese society is not very good at changing what has already been formalized, and many elderly people do not seem to have the will to change. In addition, many elderly people are often higher in power, which is painful for young people in a Japanese society steeped in seniority-based systems.
I feel like if you look at it from a more positive view, it's beneficial that Japan has a seniority based system!! Both Korea and Japan have a low-fertility rate and is heading towards a society where there are more elders than youngsters. The seniority based system will probably help more older people to engage in society. It's something Korea is looking to achieve in our society, so that elders won't get left behind!
They also have some similarities in certain things like respecting the elderly and some Social norms how are quite simulier but from what I see at least when I compare their dramas the Koreans seems to be more direct when it comes to human interactions but both got this whole hierarchy thing at the society and a certain politeness but I have the feeling Koreans are a bid more westernized than Japanese people

We have so many seniors in our country can’t follow those new technologies. They can’t keep up with the new changes. That’s why the people still use fax machine, stamps, flip phone and etc. but I think that’s ok. Make it easier for old people. Some people might think that Japan technology is a way behind but that is not a bad thing. I love Japan the way it is. But I really like to visit Korea one day. And eat some authentic Korean food🤤
Both countries are amazing, i say. I ve been to South korea, and now i am looking forward to my next trip to japan in april. From the food, the music, the culture is definitely unique. The only thing they are the same it's how they used chopsticks.
Not only anime ost's are great. Jazz in insanely good, rock music too with a huge number of extremely talentous band. They are great and technique musicians. Japan is also mother of some genius compositors like Joe Hisaishi Ryuichi Sakamoto or Hiroyuki Sawano. Game's music are wild, just take Elden Ring and thier insane ost. And I can continue during 3 hours, Nujabes, City pop, J-pop, synthpop...
Nice assessment. Keep living the dream Drew. I have had the privilege to visit both countries. I personally give Japan my vote for music as a 60 y/o boomer, for Takanaka, Kazumi Watanabe, Casiopea, and Boøwy. I have enjoyed some cool movies from both countries as well
People like to push the narrative that Japan is not advanced. Here is how I'll prove you wrong: • First Asteroid Sample Return mission, (Japan) • First for Industrial Robotics Exports (36% of total, Japan) • 50% of all smartphone image sensors are made from Sony Lens • Toyota is the #1 in market share in Cars in 2023 and it's able to do that with a more expensive labor and currency than China, by utilizing automation. • Japan has the most scientific patents for Solid-State Battery R&D • TSMC, Samsung, Intel are dependent on Tokyo Electron & Shin-Etsu for the materials to build advanced semiconductors. • Japan is the only country to have a direct competitor to ASML - Canon Nanoimprint (NIL) Lithography AND • Rapidus Semiconductor is building 2nm semiconductors by 2026, a direct competitor to TSMC & Samsung Japan & the US are the only countries in the world that can build advanced semiconductors vertically integrated in-house. Politics, US-Japan trade war in the 80s made room for South Korea and Taiwan to takeover advanced semiconductor production. But, now with US-China tensions the semiconductors are shifting back to Japan & US. See Rapidus Semiconductors if you don't believe me. It's a Japan-US collab to leap-frog Samsung & Taiwan. To the people who think Japan is not advanced.💀💀💀
It is hard to say Japanese technology is better than Korea. They have their own strengths in different fields. Japan has strength in sensors, materials, machine, robotics etc which are the fundamental and essential tech for manufacturing industry. However Korea is good at manufacturing things and energy industry such as semiconductors, phones, batteries, ship, nuclear power, nuclear fusion etc which are the leading industries or post-leading industries. So if you say Japanese technology beats Korean one just by showing the toilet picture, I think it is nonsense.
In terms of efficiency, Japan is way behind like still using boss stamps, writing politician name on election paper. still fax is common. their heritage is calm and follow the old rule, even it is biased or bad haha. 😄

I'm S.Korean. I don't feel good when foreigners compare Japan and S.Korea. Culture, attitude, streets, etc. East Asia has its own charm. (S.Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan)
Ok but it’s helpful for foreigners who can’t decide which country to move to. You would compare UK USA and Canada if thinking about moving to the west. Personally I prefer S.Korea to Japan but it’s personal taste
Cuz historically South Korea and Japan have a bad relationship and when people making videos about comparing them, people get divided. Also Japan has destroyed Korean national documents, colonized, opressed, enslaved, and murdered millions of South Koreans for decades, took our resources, claimed our island as their own, and used Korean teens as sex slaves. And the fact that they never apolgized for their actions makes things worse. so South Koreans are very sensitive to Japanese people and it's for a legitimate reason.
I am a Korean engineer and let me tell u the facts. Japanese robot and other fundamental science is way advanced than Korea. However, for battery, some IT tech, and some semiconductor fields, Korea is more advanced. In terms of vending machine, yes, Japanese sell everything 😮. I would say for overall casual technologies, Koreans develop things and accept it real fast. As my experience, i heard Japanese tend to stick to their habits. Such as they use cash, they still use fax machine kinda thing.
Correct! Korea are large producers of semiconductors and phone parts, but thats about it, really. Technology is such a broad category and overall Japan would definitely be leading not only above Korea, but in the world. Cars, trains, robotics, screen display technology. A Japanese even invented the LED. Japan has won 29 Nobel prizes. South Korea has won none; that already should speak for itself. The tech Korea has now, has been derived from Japan. But again, Korean phones are pretty damn good.
You are missing an important point. SKor was forced to be under IMF in 1997 due to Nation bankruptcy. Nowadays SKor's expantion in exporting business was under initiative of IMF consisting especially of Americans and Japanese. SKor's economy was gripped by US, JPN, HK, UK and Germany. Ex, 6 out of 7 major banks are foreign companies.
I am Japanese, I have never been to Korea but I want to go there someday. Koreans are cool because they are fashionable and stylish. Too bad some of the comments are mindless.
As i’m a korean who visited Japan a few days ago, If you like analog mood(ex:bicycle instead of kickboard.i love that japan’s classic bicycle), anime, clean street(100%better than Korea😂),salty and sweet food (It’s more salty than in Korea),and you like some cute things, i recommend Japan. on the other hand,if you want to enjoy K-POP ,spicy food(tbh not spicy for Korean…),nightlife in Korea, and comfortable transportation,i recommend Korea. Especially, I am confident that the subway also train and flight are convenient in Korea. The Shinkansen train between Tokyo and Osaka costs about $102 one way. The one-way flight between Seoul and Jeju Island or Busan costs 42-50 dollars. I had to pay more than $8 when I took an hour train from Tokyo. On the other hand, the same distance goes to $1.4 in Seoul. However, since both Japan and Korea are worth visiting, I recommend going to Japan first and then to Korea.
If you're an introvert, than Japan is for you, you can do almost everything alone And if you're an extrovert (like me) than korea is for you, Nad if you like to be around people instead of robots or technology, than korea is just for you (and the you is me😅)
Innovative means original and creative. I think it fits perfectly. However, I agree with you. When it comes to Japan’s technology there are far greater things he could’ve mentioned.
Lika apple vs orange, both countries have different approach. Example is music. Japan is more on rock and Korea is more on pop. (Japan also have nice pop bands/idols too). Food? Both are great!
The hottest Japanese music group/musician today are Yoasubi and Kenshi Yonezu, they make J-Pop songs. Japanese music scene is diverse. Rock, Pop, Reggae, Rap, Metal, Balad, Vocaloid EDM, etc they all have massive audience in Japan and around the world.
Fuck yes Japanese music is awesome. I live in Europe and in literally all comment sections of Japanese artists I ask for an European tour. My favorite band is Co shu Nie but I also enjoy vocaloid songs.
South Korea is more innovative than Japan i think.i prefer South Korea. Except the cost of living is out of this world and the job market is limited. to visit great to live there you better be rich. An average worker has it kind of tough. I believe the population rate is going down due to these.
Similarities: Both are technologically advanced but still are underdeveloped in all other things (human rights, work life balance, hierarchical structure,..).
What they have in common is a high degree of national self-esteem. Other Asian countries have internal divisions, but Japan and South Korea do not. Especially South Korea, they treat their compatriots really well.
Korean has some spicy food, but it also has the world's coldest food and bland food. Cold Korean food is extremely cold, and bland Korean food is extremely bland. Don't express Korean food with one word "heat".
Korean pop yg korang begitu agung agungkan tu sendiri terpengaruh dari muzik barat jadi tak perlu lah nak taksub bagai. I prefer Korea coz it’s not built around introvert culture like Japan is. In japan everyone wears masks, uses vending machines and so many restaurants are built around 0 human interaction
Japanese domestic market might be big due to population and listening to old tech (CDs) , which generates more revenue, rather than streaming, but Korea has more global music impact. Japanese music industry is changing at a snail's pace while Korean music market changes at a rapid fashion.
Ok people are fighting in the comments about technology between Japan and Korea but I really think they are both improved it's just different paths. Like Korea is making really good technology for more convenient life experience and those basic technology while Japan has really creative inventions like Robots and gadgets etc. We can't really say which is better cause they are focusing on different technologies and paths. But I do agree that they are in the top 5 on earth in technology 😊.
This is what foreigners who never visited both countries would think. But as a person who lived in both countries for a long time, I gotta say it's the total opposite for both. Technology: South Korea > Japan. Music: Japan > South Korea. Everything he mentioned about "high tech" exists in Korea and is actually easier to find. Japan's infrastructure were mostly built around 80s and 90s, and since the country didn't develop much after, South Korea looks way more modern and advanced. This is what even Japanese who traveled to South Korea agree as well. Also, In Japan, most transactions are still made in cash, and many systems still remain analog. Music wise, I personally think Japan is better overall. I know K-pop is glorified globally, Japan truly is a music powerhouse. It is a place where a huge variety of genres of music are made, such as indie music and band music, which are incomparable to Korea. The problem was that their industry paid way more attention to the Japanese domestic market than to music aimed at the global/American market.
