I think the results would be the same, Turbo 911 haven't changed much but their stock brakes have The newer GTR are heavier if I'm not mistaken but they do have more HP/Tq stock. The newer NSX isn't that impressive on the track. No more EVO though and the last one was much heavier than the 7 or 8 that was in the video Maybe put in a WRX/STI instead?
I love how simple the editing was back in the day. If this show were made today there would be 10x as many jump cuts. This is how automotive programming should be
Oh is that what it was? I was thinking to myself "gee, that was strangely satisfying", maybe because they didn't throw in heaps of cuts and try to make it "more" exciting. The narrator is the same guy they use for The Iron Chief Japanese cooking show, so that made me laugh a bit.
Even in Occident this is true. You can clearly see that if you watch Top Gear clips from the 90's or early 2000, before the editing turned to a complete mess. There's even a perfect example of this: when they made James break the speed record in a Veyron, twice over some years. First bit was straight to the point and enjoyable while the most recent one looked like a video game trailer.
@@Nathan-qy6ty well of course not but i remember a top gear episode where it could keep up with a lamborghini murcielago, which is quite impressive for a 4door sedan.
The cars here are legendary but I think the drivers definitely stole the show. That's an unreal amount of skill and experience that's rare to find these days.
@@warriorwal Some people really are out of touch with this sport. If anything, modern drivers have even more skill with more competitive margins between cars.
I never understood how such a big car like R34 can be so damn fast and manueverable. Same goes for Evolutions.. It's beautiful seeing these cars just putting so much pressure and winning against cars that are made to be fast (Ferrari,Porsche,Corvette).. Imagine driving a Ferrari and you get gapped by a family in their sedan.. Gotta love Japan.
Honesty I thought it would end last because ppl nowadays just throw a big turbo on it and use it on straight line... I never saw gtr on track doing so good
Every GT-R is built to destroy the 911s of the generation they release with, and any other race it dominates is just collateral. Although in this case, despite the GT-R being a second or two faster than the Porsche in TA, it can't get an edge against the Porsche Turbo because it's severely underpowered. I mean, I'm fairly certain people said driving an unmodified Skyline is apparently akin to driving a Maxima or something I can't remember where I watched it from.
All Gtr's despite looking like a brick, are very aerodynamic. The r34 has a CW value of only 0,27. That's less than some Supercars of that Era, for example the Diablo has a CW value of 0,31. That doesn't make the car faster on its own but a better airflow means you dont have to fight the air as hard as other cars and need less power to go fast.
The fact that Skyline and Evo can battle a beast like The 911 Turbo with 405 hp, is amazing. JDM's are on another level of handling experience. Stock Corvette is trash for track races, that was predicable but, i expected more about the Modena 🤔
@Nathan noooo, skylines GTRs with atessa and EVOs VII - IX especiallybin FQ variants are much faster in corners than any european spupercars from around 2010
@Nathan I remember a top gear episode from around 2011 with an evo and some kind of Lamborghini, maybe gallardo or murcielago. Evo was much faster in corners
Modern corvettes are crazy fast on tracks. Most of the speed modern road cars create is on the straights where they often get up to higher speeds than gt3s and f3 cars with the little aero drag they have and unrestricted motors
The different cars, the smooth and clean designs, the constant hearing of the tires and the continuous "drift" you could sense in every corner, they were going sideways a lot. Literally Gran Turismo
@@danishakkiwat6388 No, they don't. They have stock road sports tires You're severely underestimating the impact proper racing tires and suspension tuning has on a car's racing performance.
a lot of that comes from track knowledge and the shake downs they do prior to the race. I remember some BTS footage and they sometimes have a couple days with the car on the track. If time permits they all drive the cars as well so they have an idea of what the cars are capable of. Really cool to see. I like the Tuner battles too. Have different shops competing was always cool
Pretty impressive from the JDMs. I expected the 996tt to be h2h with the 360, followed by the vette. Skyline was no slouch - neither was the evo! JDMs are obviously superior on tighter tracks.
@@jouunoo9365 That's a good joke. An Audi S4 Quattro could easily take a win on that level. Nevertheless it's surprising they're so competitive, even though these cars have turbos that get destroyed. They aren't your daily Camry or Maxima, they're tuned and it shows. German cars are made to be able to be used daily, that's what you need to have in mind.
@@somedudedelespagne Nice a modern car racing outdated cars from the 90's and early 2000's.Even then im pretty sure the Evo and the Gtr could beat the s4.
@@SeaNBlack ??...what does it matter? with right tires you will outperform double the engine power easily after a couple of laps when the road tyre will give up...
the Japanese are super nationalistic, im surprised they even let the Porsche win. either way there is no point testing cars unless they are on the same tyre
As can be said throughout this work, the JDM is a very high-grip tire, and the Porsche is equipped with genuine touring tires. Porsche ( Ferrari ) Mi Ps ( Pzeeo ) standard sports tire JDM RE070 Semi-slick tires developed for circuit time trials It should also be considered that each vehicle adjusts its suspense hardness to fit the tire. For example, if RE070 is installed on the corvette, the results are expected to change significantly. The difference in tire performance has a big impact on time.
This has to be one the most beautiful automobile videos ever made. This race truly captured the imagination from affordable to exotic bravo 👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏
Gan San is the ‘no F given’ driver of the group while the others are more careful, the only person that messes with him is DK as the others are very respectful to him. There is a BM Tsukuba race were he dings an NSX when he cornered to close to another car, man wish I could remember the exact video so you can search for it.
Lol the evo cost $100,000 less than the Porsche but when you spent your $100,000 upgrading your evo it can go up to 1200 HP and faster than modern supercars
Enough with the "Where's the Supra"; it was out of production in this video. Regardless, it would have sucked....EVO and GTR are track cars whereas the Supra was a street-spec car. This is a stock-for-stock competition and a stock MK4 Supra is nothing really exciting. It's all of you armchair commanders who have never actually driven one that praise the "1000hp RU-vid" Supras that have $30-100k dumped into them. Not really apples to apples here, which this test was all about...
"How'd the Corvette do?" "What Corvette? ..........OH; right! The Corvette! You'll have to call the driver. We all went out to lunch before he finished."
Dang I never thought about it that way but it makes total sense, with the 280 hp regulations in the 90s manufactures had to figure out how to make the car faster without adding horsepower. No wonder jdm cars are notorious for their amazing handling
fuckin love mitsubishi. Look at all these other cars. They're all supercars built for no other reason but speed. Then look at the evo, if you drop off the spoiler it looks like something my mother would go to walmart in. They managed to squeeze performance out of a regular lookin car and make a vehicle that holds its own to the worlds best!
that's why Porsche keep dominating the racing series. Not the drag racing type and of course not drifting competition, and their records for 24h of lemans. maybe they should come to F1 since they're beast when producing 6 cylinder engine
Augh, I love all the cars in this video, but the Corvette had other more powerful and track oriented trim levels, I don't know why they chose the Z51. Kind of frustrating to watch such capable car place last in this.
After this, the Ferrari blew the engine, the Corvette ran out of fuel, the Porsche needed new tires, the NSX went back to its museum and the GT-R and EVO VII went for a few more laps.
This ended the way I wanted it to end. But I’m sure there are also races where the Ferrari and the Corvette dominate. But in this case AWD+Turbo for the win
They brought a Z51 vette to a matchup with cars that are supposed to compete with the Z06. It's totally unfair. Also, they put better tires on the JDM cars (they even admitted that in the video)
@acktually aintaddingup the guys in the video stated explicitly that they swapped the tyres of the JDM cars. This also requires a suspension tune, which has been done to ensure optimal performance with new tires, EVOs and Skylines do not come with semi-slicks stock. As far as I know even modern super cars and sports cares don't come with semi-slicks stock.
@acktually aintaddingup actually, compared to the GT-R, real life estimates puts the Porsche at only 90hp more than the GT-R to the crank. The GT-R technically makes 280hp, however that's WHP (at the wheels), so it'd be making at least 330hp to the crank. The Porsche obviously makes 420hp to the crank. That +90hp is useless if you can't put it to the ground, and considering the JDMs were on semi-slicks, it's enough to close the gap, or at least create a convincing chase effort.
Thye should have put z06 version here. Sort of unfair putting base Vette against these cars. C7 Z06 os much faster than 911 FT3 RS round the track for example.
@@Conorsev I didn't say modify the cars. Just similar tyres for a proper comparison. They still stock. Do you think a car doesn't stay stock if someone changes old outdated tyres for new ones? It's like changing a sprinters shoes. It's still stock just the tires are upto date. As they should be.
@@Conorsev newsflash: the guys in the video stated explicitly that they swapped the tyres of the JDM cars. This also requires a suspension tune, which has been done to ensure optimal performance with new tires. And no, EVOs and Skylines do not come with semi-slicks stock. As far as I know even modern super cars and sports cares don't come with semi-slicks stock.
i just love the roaring of that 911, you just know you got a 911 if you hear that sound the c5 and modena suffering of their rwd only especially the c5 because of the instability, the nsx lacking of power, both lancer and r34 great performance and thanks to 4wd, lancer has a turbo whole which makes it slower
@@tl275 the power of semi-slick tires with race focused suspension tuning all JDM cars in this fight are using racing semi-slicks with tuned suspension, while all non JDMs are using stock road tires. you'd be foolish to think this was a genuinely fair comparison
