Japanese City Pop Reaction - Summer Connection by Taeko Onuki (大貫妙子) 

I think my favourite thing about Taeko Onuki's music is that she's not afraid to really go jazzy (I mean city pop in itself is already jazzy, but her music crosses the line more.). The drum shuffle, the guitar riff that reminds me of George Benson's "Breezin'". Great stuff !

Takeo, with Ohashi was the grandmother of Japan City Pop. She's not really a City Pop singer, more jazz-funk. All the album sounds like that. A hit of course. Her voice is not my cup of tea but it's cool 😊

Great vocal and instrumentals, as expected. But we must remember what makes Japanese City Pop so outstanding. Chart arranging & conducting.

It’s a good album though I prefer Mignonne as a whole album for her. She is an artist who is quite versatile though I find her lighter J-POP stuff too fluffy for me. The musicians and writing on Mignonne has a tad more bluesy funky feel like Steely Dan and one can feel this heritage through the album. So if you like her work here , I’d recommend Mignonne and see if you like it with a tad more rocking feel. If you haven’t already
