Guys, show everyone how smart and funny you'd be if you were born in Heian period Japan and compose your own WAKA down here. Or just like a WAKA you really liked in the comments. WAKA's rhythm is 57577 (Hiragana characters or syllables in English) Here's a GOOD example! 6:57 I'll shout out the winner in one of my videos! btw, do you know that you can change the size of subtitles from the setting? Some people said they can't see my face because of subtitles🤣

You can change subtitles font size on PC by going to Settings -> Subtitles/CC -> Options(top right corner) and you have there some options. On phone I don't know.

Sometimes I’m also demotivated to study languages(now I’m trying Spanish) so I know the feeling haha But if you manage to keep studying languages, you can be better than you before so when I don't want to study it, I remember this phrase and try to remember 5 words and feel like "My Spanish is better than mine yesterday because I know 5 more words "🤣

Hello! Regarding Japanese culture... I'm curious about kokuhaku culture, especially for school kids. We always see this in anime or drama, where a girl awkwardly hands a guy a kokuhaku letter, or stuffs it secretly into his locker. I watched an Atarashii Gakko video yesterday where the guy opened his locker and a pile of letters fell out... Does this actually happen??

When you mentioned how the guy had to disappear from the girl's house before dawn, because other people seeing them dating would be considered inappropriate, I couldn't help but feel like that aspect of Japanese culture still persists. From the time I lived in Japan, talking to japanese people and so on, it seems like even nowadays japanese people really dislike showing affection to their loved ones in public. Maybe this is the origin? Or maybe the origin is even older than this, who knows? Hahah. Oh, and regarding the "favorite romance story" that you asked, I absolutely love 君の名は. So beautiful. The legend of the 赤い糸 is explained very well there. Makoto Shinkai is amazing! Great video, as usual!

Thank you for this interesting video! I took an art history class on Japanese art history last spring, and I remember that the Heian period was super interesting! Heian era paintings and prints had a very interesting style where space could be used to convey the passage of time. I thought it was so very interesting that they had to marry after 3 dates. It sounds a little scary to me. XD

I took some art history classes, including one course on Japanese history, and the most interesting part of the Heian period was that it was actually strongly influenced by Chinese culture (of the Han dynasty, I think) and reinterpreted, however the culture was so definitely Japanese, despite so many elements being taken from Chinese culture. World cultures and languages are so interesting, and I hope to learn (about) many more! 😊

長文失礼します。ひときさんの声は聞こえやすく、説明も分かりやすいです。もし将来、違う職業への転職を考えるのなら、日本語教師も行けると思います。特に、海外ではひときんさんのような優秀で若い教師は非常に稀です。日本語学校へ通っていたごろ、ひときさんの授業を受けられたら、たぶんもっとオノマトペを覚えられたかもしません。後、ちょっとしたアイディアなんですが、日本語の変音現象についての動画シリーズはいいと思います。例えば、できない→できん、見るな→見んななど、日本語学習者にとって、結構ハードル高く、一般日本語学校、大学の日本語学部もあんまり触れられてない課題です。自分は日本の漫画を原文で読むために、日本語を勉強しましたが、最初原文で読んだとき、自分が習った日本語とあんまりにもかけ離れて、当時調べようとししても、調べる手段や関する資料も少なく、苦労しました。日本の漫画、アニメ、ゲームなどといったサブカルチャーに興味を持って、日本語勉強を始め外国人はたくさんいると思いますので、そういった方にひときさんが説明をしてくれると、助かる命があります。（大袈裟）

Locさんの日本語が上手すぎて最初海外で働く日本語教師かと思いました🤣 RU-vidをして、教えることも楽しいとわかりました。今のところ、僕の目標の一つは、日本にくる外国人の方が医療を受ける時に言語の問題なく安心して病院にいけるような環境にすることです。でもただの大学生が世界の人に情報を伝えるだけの力がないので、RU-vidを始めました。あとはオノマトペが好きだからという理由もありますが、それが理由の1つになります😊でも、教えることに関して褒めていただきとても嬉しかったです。自信がつきました💪ありがとうございます！あと、アイディアもありがとうございます！

It's sad how only Men were able to marry more women and woman only one man. Thank Goodness for Modern America. You could be Demisexual (Sexual if in a romantic relationship with them, as opposed to sexual to beauty / looks / appearance / basic cravings & "physical needs"), Asexual (romantic but not wanting sex), MonoAmorous or even PolyAmorous (Many Loves). So many options, just tell your partner or people you are dating.

Is it really was acceptable? I mean, do women's parents really were ok with those こっそり guys? Didn't fathers want to crush such guys? Or it was like those こっそり guys couldn't reject women after official date through parents because it would be like offense to women's families? And because of it nor guys, nor parents wanted to risk it? And what if I'm a noble guy, for example, and I want to marry a woman who wasn't smashed by some こっそり guys before, what should I do then? What great timing! I just finished reading the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu and enjoyed both this and that collection! I read that it was considered rude to not write a “morning after poem” and it must have been awkward to do that after realizing you didn’t like the person you were with 😂
