One problem with learning Japanese words is that many sound the same. So unless you are learning the kanji in addition to the furigana reading, then picking up words is very difficult.
How sad that the Japanese judge and condemn those who show affection for each other in public, I mean, really reprehensible behavior, (in my opinion) it would be bullying an innocent person so much, to the point that in the end, the person can't take it anymore, and take your own life. But it's okay if that's what they think about PDA, We must respect it, as it is something cultural.
In Chile , Latin America, relationships usually start with a kiss. If you have been close with each other for a while, and you're friends, you would try to be together alone hanging out and sense if there's any romantic tension in the air. You would look at your crush in the eyes and then in the lips for a few seconds while being very close, if they reciprocate you would kiss them. I think that's the way it works whether you have been friends for years or you have bearly known each other 30 minutes ago at a party. After kissing, and maybe making out lol, you would NOW confess your feelings if you had been friends for a while and discuss what you would like to do from now on. If you barely know each other after that kiss, you would take it sort of casually and continue going out until one of you decides to tell how you feel, whether you would like to continue knowing each other or if you would like to end things here.
