Welcome to part 2! As part of the restoration of a 1000 year old Spanish Farmhouse I've restored and joined a series of 10 chestnut beams which span the length of the farmhouse roof. They were originally half the length and laid at random across a center beam. We decided this would be the best way to add symmetry to the new design while still using as much of the original material as possible.
Molí del Missó is a beautiful 3 acre 13th Century Farmhouse located in Veciana, a small town 80kms north-west of Barcelona. The property also contains a few buildings estimated to be over a 1000 years old. Over the course of the coming weeks we'll be renovating and restoring this building and turning it into an artist residency space.
The building under restoration is approximately 90 square meters and consists of two main rooms. Throughout the project we'll be replacing the roof structure, cutting additional windows and doors in the existing stone walls, installing large sliding barn doors and building interior structural elements. Out of respect to tradition we're hoping to use as many historic techniques as possible in respect to the stone masonry and woodwork.
Please subscribe and follow our team as we take on this unique restoration project!
