What’s up, Japan Enthusiasts! I’ll be sharing some of my thoughts about these Japanese tattoos, as a native Japanese speaker. Wave has chosen some Japanese tattoos that might be considered unnatural or strange to native Japanese speakers, and I’ll react blindly!

I have a friend who has ばけもの on his arm. I told them that 化物 is the kanji but he really wanted it in hiragana.

I had many silly tattoos from teenage years before, now I just have a few faint laser removal marks. feels wonderful.

Max, I love your videos on your RU-vid channel, even though I was born and raised in Japan until I was 19. Haha, 「悪いお尻」doesn't translate well into English if you want to say that you're a badass. I found some good examples online below if you want to tattoo "Badass" in Japanese. They all give you the impression you're tough and badass. 人物像を表す／性格／むごい・きびしい」カテゴリの四字熟語: 【悪逆無道】人の道にはずれた、はなはだしい悪事。【残酷非道】むごたらしくて、人の道に背いているさま。 ... 【残忍酷薄】他者に対する思いやりがなく、むごたらしいさま。 ... 【暴虐非道】

hii, i'm thinking of getting 2 kanji tattoos on each arm and i found you while doing some research, i'm thinking of getting 愛 (bc it stuck with me watching naruto as a kid lmao but mostly bc it feels really deep and beautiful) and i'm trying to figure out the second one, but i can't find single kanji words/terms (if i'm expressing myself properly) that reflect my identity so i'm looking to have the light/dark or nice/not so nice contrast between the 2 and i was thinking on something like (so you have some idea) courage, fighting for what's right/ the will power to raise your voice and upset ppl to defend others/order or balance/ or like freedom from opression or stuff like that (i'm very anti-system~), but all the ones i found are 2 characters so it wouldn't look even :c so if it's not too much to ask do you have any advice or suggestions for kanjis that match that vibe? (in case the offer for kanji consultation applies here i'd really appreciate it) PS: i watched a couple of your vids and really liked them, you seem really kind and funny and passionate so i subscribed to your channel☺ i hope nice things happen to you

Hi :) Thank you for the comment! 愛 is really a good choice! As for your second kanji that goes with what you are looking for, I have 3 suggestions for you :) 1. 覆（くつがえす/フク）：to overturn, to overthrow (like the government and stereotypes and stuff) 2. 威（イ）：authority/power 3. 抗（あらがう/コウ）：to fight against, to oppose, to resist In my opinion as a Japanese native speaker, 1. 覆 would probably be the best pick for you in terms of the meaning. 2. 威 is very cool in terms of the looks of it. 3. 抗 might be your choice too because of the meaning, but in terms of the looks, I would still probably go with 1. 覆 or 2. 威. Also, as I mentioned in the video, the font/style matters a lot when it comes to tattoos. @@maxsjapanese thank you so much!! 覆 is exactly what i was looking for, i really appreciate it i'll be looking into fonts now so it can look super cool c: also i saw your shodo vid and it was really good✨ i'd love to practice it myself someday (PS: i took some time to answer bc of anxiety stuff)

I don't know, a fish grill kind of sounds like a great idea for a tattoo, only because I love food so much. But I'd get am image of it, not the word. The meeting at 3 one is so stupid it's actually good. Maybe if you ever do a follow-up to this I'll send in my Macross logo. That was the only thing in a foreign language I would've considered getting, only because it was such a personally meaningful entertainment item growing up, I got it for that reason and not because it was Japanese. Most of these things people get from other languages and cultures just end up being really tacky or dumb. Like the tribal tattoos, etc. Just a lot of silly American suburbanites trying too hard to express some deep substance or whatever.

Thank you for your comment :) In my opinion, 1. 七転八起 would be really nice! Since you’ve already picked those three phrases, I think you know what all of them mean, right? :) In fact, a lot of Japanese people like the saying 七転八起 (with Hiragana, we spell it 七転び八起き), and it’s used in many different places and situations. 頑張れ in this word I need total four kanji would tell me one more kanji to suit this phrase…

There are so many 四字熟語(よじじゅくご: four letter word) that could mean 頑張れ. For example, 切磋琢磨(せっさたくま), 一心不乱(いっしんふらん), 一粒万倍(いちりゅうまんばい), 力戦奮闘(りきせんふんとう), and more… But my honest suggestion would be 七転八起, because its meaning is really motivational. It basically means, “even if you fall 7 times, you get back up 8 times (and don’t stop and go on!)”
