Pretty ironic that the service isn't available in Japan despite the code lol. But I guess the Japanese law on personal information sees to that, so there's no demand?
i think the right word should be more sophisticated as almost anyone can appreciate it. western ones are more hard to fathom as it often leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
I just realized that kawa means coffee in polish It's interesting how similar sounding words can mean completely different things in a lot of languages
about the 米国 = America part, i believe the explanation in the video is correct but there’s an explanation which is more well known-ish here in japan which says that it’s taken from the old way to write America which is 亜米利加(literally just a combination of kanjis that reads “Amerika”), but the first kanji (亜) is already used for the spelling of Asia(亜細亜) so they went for the 2nd kanji, 米 and it turned into 米国
Over here in the states I once went to a restaurant that had similar style bathrooms. They said MEN (this restroom is not for you) WOMEN (this restroom is no for you) in a similar style. One time I sat by the restrooms and it was funny watching people go into the wrong one and get embarrassed.
With Genbaneko, the worker cat meme you've referenced, you actually got his origin backwards ^^;; He was originally a meme that formed as a variation of the "phone cat" meme, and evolved into primarily depicting workplace incidents. He became so well known as the "workplace incident cat," that he ended up being co-opted as the mascot for the Japanese equivalent of OSHA, and is used to depict examples of what not to do! So rather than a mascot that became a meme, he was a meme that became a mascot!
I died at the part where the old guy drank Monster💀 Now that I’ve seen it as 川 I can’t unsee it also lmaoo, also the Soviet Union didn’t exist during WWI so I guess that guy didn’t realize that
@@desuno2609 The Soviet Union wasn’t formed until the end of 1922. Just because it was in a civil war doesn’t mean that the state existed. At the time it was still the Russian Federation. Tsar Nicholas the 2nd was still the leader at the time.
It's crazy how some foreigners have mastered the Japanese language when some characters are so similar that even I, a Japanese person, can make mistakes!
I sent that NATTO tweet to my Japanese friend and it was the first thing she read at 5 in the morning. Let me tell you, she woke up QUICK xD. By the time she noticed that the world is in fact NOT ENDING, she was wide awake xD
0:54 Most hinged Japanese streamer xD Manarisu, what a legend lol. He'll never stop eating Gyudon, even when he's in the middle of concert *"That's great but can the dog get you a job"* Asian mom moment right there 🤣 Someone won't fell for that sus 自動 right??? Lol
Your channel is so nice, you really found your own niche. I really like how you break down things and I learned a lot about Japan that I have never heard anywhere else before. Your channel has really big potential. Could you make a video about common Japanese Internet slang in the future?
Oh my lord! We NEED more Gary stories he has such a fun storytelling voice. OH AND JAPANALYSIS IS ONLY 4K AWAY FROM 100K Lets gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
@ 2:45 The Chinese correctly translates the Monster logo. Remember that the logo is 666 in Hebrew. 666 in Chinese Monster claw. (Monster claws are a common trait with Hebrew talking people according to Borat who himself is a Hebrew.)
8:00 well, as an other people say this too, it’s not Chinese reading. “米” is short use for US right, but it’s from “亜米利加” in Japanese pronunciation. (It’s America - amerika ) It’s tiny thing but we’re glad if you’re interested in these differences TY😊
2:17 Monster Energy asked the Japanese government to prohibit the specification of the word "川" because of the similarity of the word "川" to its own brand. This is a joke lol.
This is so interesting cuz in Chinese social media we been using 米国 for USA as slang from time to time because Chinese pronunciation of 米 is (mī) which is very similar to 美 (mei) and it’s 米 is easier to type or write compare to 美 but I’ve never thought is from Japan! Big help
Great video as usual. Your friend’s story reminds me of something similar that happened to me a few years ago. Got a visit from a Jehovah’s Witness couple, who wanted to discuss God and stuff. I invited them in to play Mario Party and said if they beat me, I’d attend their group meeting. We talked a lot about religion (I’m agnostic). It was a rather pleasant conversation, even if I didn’t agree with all their views. I fortunately came first and didn’t have to follow through with my gamble. They came only once again to give me chocolate and coffee to say thanks for the chat and the game. It was pretty wholesome. Also the famous 牛丼 guy makes me a little sad because I lived at Yoshinoya for like a year when I wasn’t good at cooking and I didn’t get any recognition, ha ha.
This is quite random, but yesterday, I was passing near Shakujii Station, Tokyo, and there were 2 JW folks trying to recruit new followers. I was alittle taken aback because one of them, a young woman in her early 20s was very attractive and had a great beaming smile. Often cult followers have this quirky, spacey air which alarms you, but she looked totally normal, or actually more wholesome than most of todays youths. I confess for a moment or two I thought, chatting with this girl might not be so bad. LOL.
4:18 is literally my sense of humour. It's just taking a sentence and tweaking some letters to change the meaning entirely, to make it funnier. I love knowing that even in Japan, people do this. That dude sending the dog gas mask when asked about getting a job, is peak ADHD. 7:22 is a next level troll 😂
I always assumed the automatic doors were an attempt to keep in the ludicrous amounts of AC every japanese store has. Everytime I wisit Japan I get a cold within three days.
the worst doors are those with buttons that you have to press a little harder for them to open, i can never tell if they are closed and locked or if I'm just not pushing hard enough
4:38 I would've never, in my five years of studying japanese, expected it to end with a tsundere girlfriend sound (edit: if you learn one language, you forget another. I totally didn't just make a stupid grammar mistake)
There's little amount of things that bring me genuine joy, and the combination of your content, tone, Japanese culture, memes and this very heart melting background music, is among the list. Thank you so much for your work. May somebody id the song for me please? ありがとう
Loved finally hearing Gary's voice in your video telling his story, after being included as a side character in many of your stories in previous videos!
Trying to learn Japanese but its really difficult with how the characters (Kanji) have multiple readings and a lot look similar and even more so with the use of certain fonts. I'm not great at self study since I'm terrible with almost anything academic so I think I'll need a teacher regardless. I have heard bad things about language schools not really caring if you fall behind and that makes me worry since I bad I am slow too. Any ideas on how I can learn better since my dream is to live in Japan one day for the rest of my life and escape western culture and enjoy the Japanese country side.
Just keep up your studying and you'll get more comfortable with the language. Yeah, the kanji can be really difficult but you don't have to treat it as a race. I did like 3 months of Duolingo and about a year of Anki memorization cards and while you'll be nowhere fluent, you'll see the progress. Even 5 minutes a day helps.
It would help if you read a lot of Japanese texts. Learn Kanji with context. It would never stick to your memory without it. Many Japanese natives learn to read Kanji through children's Manga and books, which usually have phonetic guidance besides Kanji.
@@kiwi_bird Thank you, I currently use Duolingo everyday for about 10mins on average per day and am at 261 days. I tried Anki but don't really understand how to use it so I gave up on that and stuck with Duolingo. With Kanji, how can I better remember which one is which for the Onyomi & Kunyomi since I always get them confused?
Since Uma Musume is mentioned... Konami sued Cygames for having a similar support system in Uma Musume. They seek 4 billion yen to compensate for 'damages'.
I did something similar to the dipping sauce thing. Except it was a type of vinegar in a drinks carton. I downed the whole thing and instantly regretted it.
