This was amazing. Please make more videos like this for particles. I find understanding particles very difficult. I have never seen anything like this before. This video is very motivational and inspirational. Thank you Yuko Sensei.

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

Excellent video Yuko Sensei! Thank you! The only one I got wrong was the use of に as a place of existence. I also used the video to try to construct sentences on my own just reading the English to see if my translations were close to yours. That was helpful too because I thought of things like 食べたい rather than 食べてみる like in your last example. It’s very helpful to see those small differences to see better/more natural ways to say things. Thank you again!

Yuko Sensei is the best! She is an excellent Japanese teacher! And I highly recommend her. I first found her through RU-vid and then bought her lesson package, and I am super glad I did! Her teaching method is amazingly retainable and easy to digest. I’m so glad I started my language journey with her so that my language learning began with an excellent foundation, allowing me to visualize the language more clearly and not have it all muddled with other approaches. ありがとうございました, 裕子先生

As someone who learned korean, I do find it much more easier to understand the "sense" of these particles Although I will 100% struggle with them if you ask me to build a sentence 😂

I am super new to Japanese (I began learning two months ago). Some particles I was familiar with, like wa, ga and ni, while other particles I had never seen before, like ka (outside of questions) and ya. Sorry I haven't figured out how to use a Japanese keyboard on my desktop yet! In places where I was familiar with the vocabulary, I would guess the right particle, but then go back and guess a particle I was less familiar with. My reason being, "what if this is more correct?" Turns out I should have followed my gut because it was simpler than I thought! And seeing the new particles in use helped me to gain an understanding of how they are used! I hope to revisit this in the future after I forget the examples, and I've studied more, and see if I do better!

Hello, Yuko Sensei. In the example 姉は体が... , is it ok to say 姉の体は... or 姉の体が... ? If so, is there a difference in meaning? Also, after 弱い i would add ですbut I suppose that is omitted when continuing the sentence with ... ので ...
@다온-s2i
@다온-s2i 2 года назад
I suppose 姉は体が means you focused more on the 'sister', but with 姉の体が you focused more on her body. Or I can simply say that the "topic" shifted into her body Hence the meaning would change to "My sister's body is weak..."
@다온-s2i
@다온-s2i 2 года назад
I purely am guessing based on my korean knowledge of corresponding particles and if someone has the exact explanation please do elaborate Thank you
@YukoSensei
@YukoSensei 2 года назад
Jensさん、姉の体は弱いです is a grammatical sentence and you can say that, but the meaning is a little different from the structure I covered in this lesson. #1. 姉は 体が 弱いです。My older sister has a weak body. (= She is physically weak) #2. 姉の体は 弱いです。My older sister's body is weak. When you are talking about your sister, she has to be the topic of the sentence, and hence, marked by は as below. [Example] 姉は日本人です。(姉は)35さいです。(姉は)体が弱いです。 "My older sister is Japanese. (She) is 35 years old. (She) has a weak body." #2 doesn't fit here since the topic of #2 is the body, not my older sister. Both sentences convey the same information but the nuances are different. You can say 姉の体は in such cases where you are talking about your sister's body in comparison to other people's body, for example. I hope this makes sense! And Yes, it's ok to leave です before ので. It just make you sound more formal. では、また。

hi. im new to your videos but i love them already. thank you. i have a question what is a "place of action"?.. i think i am getting this confused with "destination" and "place of existence".. thank you in advance :-)
@Lycorissica
@Lycorissica 2 года назад
Place of action is the location where you do an action/verb. For example: 食堂で昼ごはんを食べます。 しょくどでひるごはんをたべます。 Eat lunch at the cafeteria. If you noticed "しょくど" is marked by "で" to indicate where the subject eats, which is the cafeteria. This is different with existence because it is either いる or ある and destination is either いく or くる

4:09 Is it wrong if we use 父 *は* 母 *と* instead?
@YukoSensei
@YukoSensei 2 года назад
Shahさん、父は 母と is correct too. But if you need to precisely translate the English sentence in this lesson, "My father and mother..." then, it should be 父と母は. If you say 父は 母と..., then the father is the only topic in the sentence as in "My father traveled to Alaska WITH my mother" and the nuance changes. I hope this helps!
