Japanese Pitching Sensation Roki Sasaki Might Be Baseball's Next Big Thing
Roki Sasaki is a professional Japanese pitcher who is considered baseball’s next big thing. He has overcome personal tragedy to become one of the faces of the NPB Japanese professional league. He has pitched a perfect game and received rave reviews from current MLB players. He has earned a scary nickname and is destroying batters using his arsenal of pitches. Roki’s stats compare favorably to MLB’s best pitchers but it appears we will have to wait to see him in the major leagues due to the complicated international signing rules.

Baseball is in decline in Japan due to the top players leaving to play in the MLB and the increased of the popularity of soccer due to the 2002 world cup in Japan and the creation of the J. League (Japanese pro soccer league). This is what everyone thought after the 1994 world cup in the us and the creation of MLS. But it didn't happen even though MLB, NHL and NBA had labor stoppages. Americans just want the watch the best players of each sport rather than their own. 😅
@takosdon7754
@takosdon7754 Год назад
@@BurritoKingdom That's total bulls**t. It may come as a surprise to you but not all players from Japan who move to the majors are top notch players in Japan. On the contrary, the best players stay and play in Japan. And the popularity of baseball in Japan has not declined at all. The NPB has kept attendance down in recent years due to Corona but it had been on the rise for a long time before that. It is true that soccer's popularity has risen. Recently, soccer has overtaken baseball as the leading sport among children. But even so, the media's treatment of the J League still pales in comparison to baseball and has little impact. Most Japanese only watch soccer during the World Cup.
@cryptointuition5052
@cryptointuition5052 Год назад
@@takosdon7754 I agree. The majority of best players stay in Japan. The environment suits them better. There are some who choose to play afterwards. But may have exerted too much time in the NPB before transitioning over. Hideki Matsui played 10 years in Japan before transitioning over so he missed out in the Major Leagues in his prime years. Ichiro played 9 years in NPB before going to the majors, a huge part of his young career. If Roki stays playing for 9 years in the NPB, he will be nearly 30. The average retirement age of major league players is 29.5 years of age. This means, on average, he would be considered old.

It's quite amazing how for such a skinny lanky guy, he can throw 101 miles an hour. And, with great control. So young and arguably the best pitcher on the planet. Being in the MLB sooner would be better for the young prospect because he can get MLB coaching and will be able to assimilate in the American way of playing Baseball sooner. MLB season is longer and more gruesome than NPB. It also benefits his NPB club as the bidding fee for the chance to sign him will be tremendous. Richer clubs like the Red Sox, Yankees, are in better position to bid millions in the advent they really want him. It will be risky because he is so young and may need more experience, but with pitches like that and more weight training, he may be able to elevate that fastball to 103 miles per hour, making it practically unhittable.
