The Japanese Type 30 Bayonets is an icon is one that I've always wanted in my collection. This iconic bayonet was in service with Imperial Japan from 1897 until 1945. Yes, This video is a bit of a ramble.

I was offered anything that I wanted from a friend’s basement after his death. The family was surprised when I came upstairs with a very rusty bayonet for a Japanese Arisaka. Sometimes, the monetary value is unimportant, but the connection is invaluable.

You’re absolutely right, provenance matters more than anything. I was happy to part with my 1907, because I had no connection with its history. My Grandfather’s FS knife or the Katana he brought back from WWII , on the other hand will stay with me till the end!

I never thought much about bayonets for collecting mainly due to not knowing much about them. Thanks for the very interesting history lesson both about bayonets and Korea. My first GF after I moving out here was from Korea via Hawaii, lovely lady then and now. Her mother was a Korean Shaman (a real one, and author) who shared much about their culture on two fantastic visits I was privileged to share and will never forget. Thanks again my friend.

Found one at an estate sale for 60 bucks I held onto it for around 6 years took it twice out into the woods of Connecticut as a hunting sword but never had to dispatch a wounded animal, I found out the pawn shop had a couple of Western bowies and went to see about a trade. I got my w-49 a frail for the bayo I was happy with a straight across trade

glad you found it useful. I know it isn't everybody's bag. I'll probably do a short video on the Type 30 in the future.

What was the function of the "J" shape on the guard?
@KnifeChatswithTobias
@KnifeChatswithTobias 22 дня назад
A couple of things. 1. To catch an opponents blade when fighting. 2. to aid in stacking the rifles in a garrison situation. (I think this came about as an afterthought. ) An interesting side note - German bayonets has the bottom of the guard bending in the opposite direction similar to an S guard.

Hey Tobias, You have a SAK Hunter pro ALOX (red) I’m a bit interested in. Wondering if you’re up to trades???? I have a Syderco Tenacious I looking to maybe trade out…. Thanks David Bishop

Sorry I'm not really interested in a trade as the Pro Hunter is part of my Red Alox collection. It is also getting harder to find as it is not discontinued. It also listed for more than a Tenacious. At this point, you might want to look for a Red Alox Evoke. It is the same as Pro Hunter but has a thumb stub.
