Metal Hammer journalist Dom Lawson sat down with bassist Jared MacEachern to talk the impact of Burn My Eyes, what it's like to play with Chris and Logan for the first time, and the excitement of the anniversary tour.
Been a fan since day one. Read about MH in Metal Maniacs, and followed them right through signing to RoadRunner; culminating with the release of Burn My Eyes. It's an overworn thing to say, but it really was a special time, and Machine Head hit on something that was on the tip of everyone's tongue, but couldn't define. I haven't agreed with every musical direction the band has taken, but that hasn't changed the respect and love I have for the band. Cheers to everyone in the organization for this celebration. All the best.
I remember the cassette I bought, it was a Polish pirated one, and it said - BOrn My Eyes... LMAO Nevertheless - I jumped into the Machine Head wagon immediately and been a fan since 1995.
Saw them in London last year for the first time for 3 hours of absolute mayhem and been a fan since the first note of the first album. Can't wait to hear the new re-recording of "Burn My Eyes" and revisit 25 years of history on volume 11!!!!
Ahhhhh I can not love this enough. Like me and millions of others....Burn My Eyes was a Marker in everyone who listened to it! I really hope this tour will come over to the UK!!?!?!?!?
Fan since day one! Got the limited edition Burn My Eyes black disc with the yellow MH logo in the front. This is my favourite album of all times 💯. I gotta see this lineup in Australia mate 👍
After all these years as a metalhead, (started at 5, almost 40 now) Burn My Eyes remains in my opinion THE GREATEST DEBUT ALBUM ever. Period. Hands down. No debate needed.
@@jasonalamond3019 I respect your opinion bro I respect everyone's opinion that's what makes us metal heads great but I'll name some that are on point with BME 1.slayer-show no mercy 2.slipknot-slipknot (MFKR Dont really count cause it was a demo) 3.Ozzy Osbourne- Blizzard of oz. 4.Metallica-Kill em all (A.K.A. Metal up your ass) 5.Pantera- cowboys from hell (debut with Phil anselmo not Terry glaze) 6.Megadeth-Killing is my business... and business is good 7.Korn-Korn 8.Deicide-deicide 9.Cannibal Corpse-eaten back to life 10.deftones-adrenaline Just some that are just as good as BME man I got plenty more I can go on for days cause I'm a music maniac who discovers at least 3 new bands daily but anyways like i said I respect your opinion if you think BME is the best but slipknot or Korn have that crown in my eyes but to your credit BME was the best selling debut for roadrunner for years...until the self titled slipknot album was the one to break it
@@kevinvigil3865 definitely familiar with all of these👍 Some I don't care for, as a lot of followup albums were simply better.....still though, if I were to make a top 10 of debut albums, it would look quite similar to this🤘🤘🤘
It was supposedly tough for metal in the 90's but damn some classic albums were released then. Burn My Eyes, Chaos AD, Vulgar Display of Power. I saw MH and Biohazard open for Slayer from the front row.
Love Jared. I really feel he brought new energy to the band and I'm still gutted that Phil and Dave left, but glad Jared stayed. Really looking forward to what the new era brings as well as Brixton in November, HELL YEAH! 🤘
I was 25 when BME came out..I felt the impact big time..it was the heaviest shit on the planet without being death metal that was real big at the time.. sic shit
I love Burn my eyes. One of the best heavy metal albums ever. THOUGH, i want to point out that Machine head did a whole lot more then just this album. Looking at the video and reactions here, i see a lot of love for the old MH ( wich is normal offcourse). But let me put out some things that are (in my eyes) classics from MH after burn my eyes. For example the more things change with Ten ton hammer and take my scars..... little further the burning red with the blood the sweat the tears.....more recent wolves is also a masterpiece. They have much classics. So no looking down on the recent work. But indeed, burn my eyes was my introduction of MH, true. I'm looking forward to see the show live in september \m/
I was there for the Machine Head, Biohazard, Slayer show back in 1995. I didn't care for Machine Head then, but once The More Things Change came out, and a few days after buying TMTC, I went and bought BME. I didn't much care for the next 2 albums, but Through the ashes of empires was the album that restored my faith, and it got better from there, but then 2018 came around, and the disappointment was strong, but, again they revealed themselves by bringing Chris and Logan back for this anniversary, and things came full circle, well a 3/4, circle but Jared seems like a good man and him as the bassist is a good choice!
I am thinking Rob realized that he was being a douche canoe, and the fans were almost fed up with the whole "I am Machine Head" crap. Reminds me of Mustaine and Megadeth, except he let's the other guys do interviews about the band.
Id like to address the pink elephant in the room....I think its safe to say that Adam isn't part of the reunion due to political differences between the two.that aside, i think its rediculous they havent addressed the issue....just address the shit once at least lol. its like, uh yeah we have all original members and then this other guy playing bass?
I kind of feel had for Jared, because the other 3 make him look like he is some hired bassist they found in some local nightclub gig. I am surprised they didn't make Jared sit in the shadows in the studio interview when they discussed the BME album.
The court proceedings between Rob and Duc were so ugly and the fallout was aired publicly, and was very ugly too. It’s just not something they would feel is worth dredging up no matter Duces’ legacy with the band. That is just a no go zone. Duce is a bitter asshole anyway, his input would be interesting if the fallout wasn’t in place but that’s the seeds he has sown
@Metallic Palate The Blackening album is incredibly political, especially on the topics of war and religion. Early Metallica and Megadeth in general are very political. I'm not saying you have to like it, you do you, I don't like the politics of recent Megadeth for example. But it's undeniably political.
@Metallic Palate metal can lyrically be whatever you want, I mean there are no rules in music. However, complaining about politics in metal is petty and shows a lack of understanding of the genre. It's probably the most politically motivated music genre out there other than punk.
@Metallic Palate I wouldn't say music should be anything. It's whatever you want to make it. It's an art form. But if it's escapism you are looking for in your lyrics, Machine Head isn't your band. I suggest listening to more power metal as it is heavily saturated in escape from reality type subject matter.
@Andy Salter lol, no one cares? You refuted that with your first statement. It's kind of hard to enjoy metal if you're triggered by political messages; Because there is lots of it. Especially with Machine Head. I suggest getting past it and just listen to the music or listen to something else.
