Jarvis Cocker is a great guy and a national treasure. He doesn't even dislike MJ. Has said he liked his music. Pulp were one of the best bands of the 90's and had a 20 year career and a mercury music prize winner. Whenever they get back together they are invited by all the main festivals around the world to headline, as they did so brilliantly at Reading a few years ago. Hardly a flash in the pan.
I love Jarvis:) whether or not Jackson was trying to be Jesus or relate to Jesus or whatever, the fact was the performance was SO over the top! Have you seen it? It was the Fucking Brit awards not a fucking baptism. The word I'm looking for is "American", the whole thing was to far.
Regardless he was wrong to invade the stage. Because in his OPINION he was trying to be Jesus. That doesn't make it fact does it? Also, he didn't invent the Moonwalk and never claimed to. Jarvis comes across here as someone who doesn't have a clue.
Doudi Didi I suggest you get your eyes tested....get your head out of Michael's ass, watch the brit awards again and tell me the only hero on that stage is the almighty Jarvis Cocker, saving the poor audience from throwing up the American flag because of how far that shit gets shoved down our throats.
the jackson performance at the brits was in really bad taste he got what he deserved. the part where he turns into jesus and "heals" the poor peasants is beyond ridiculous
Earth Song is one of the most pompous, self-important, pretentious and boring pop songs ever written. And during that Brit Awards performance, which went on for over 10 minutes, Jackson posed as some kind of all-powerful, supernatural healing figure, adored by all the world's children. Jarvis Cocker was NOT the only person who sat there thinking, "This is utterly fucking stupid and wrong." But he was the only person who did something about it. Good for him.
No One Yeah it's stupid and wrong to write a song about how much of a shit hole the planet is becoming. MJ was the only artist at the time who had the balls to bring it up into discussion. Now it's just a trend among little jerks like Jarvis who pulled a little stunt for the sole purpose of shits and giggles. He wasn't portraying himself as Jesus. Ever heard of the term go big or go home? Who gives a hell about what he was wearing on stage? EARTH song is a message to be listened to, not criticized. MJ was just doing his part to help the planet. All Jarvis ended up doing was going down in history as being the punk who made a fool of himself at the Brit awards! In the meantime MJs going to go down as a legend.
He didn’t invent the moonwalk. It’s been around for years. It’s first recorded in Jazz dancing and is called the backslide. He might have coined the name moonwalk.
Jarvis said that MIchael Jackson had stopped making good records 20 years earlier (ie up until the '90's) but I think that's a little harsh. Dangerous from '91 was a solid album and the singles from HIStory around the time of the Brits incident were great as well (Scream and Earth Song, it was only You Are Not Alone that was maybe a bit sappy). Jackson would probably have recorded more good songs in the early 90's if his career hadn't have been put on hold due to the allegations about him in '93. As for his Brits performance yes, it was very over the top and maybe too self mythologising but if you're going to go way OTT you might as well go as far over the top as you can.
No its not a "little harsh" It's FUCKING stupid lmao. like I actually pity the guy. Dangerous is the 11th best selling album in human history. History is a top 50 selling album of all time, and invincible in 2001 sold 15-20 MILLION albums. By almost mainstream agreement, he dominated the 90s, and at the very least was the most famous artist and human alive.
Michael Jackson' s performance at those Bit Awards was awful and disgusting. And yes, he was pretending to be the Messiah or whatever. Jarvis didn't even do much, it was all blown out of proportion.
portishphonic It was petty and stupid. He got a couple of laughs for humiliating someone during a performance. I didn't even know his name before I watched this video.
REctershi23 23 well, that was the point: to get attention. This "MJ pretended to be Jesus" has not much to do w/ reality but he had to give a reason. Now he has to live w/ the fact that most ppl know him only for this. Too bad he mistook MJ w/ establishment...
Jarvis was just jealous. 80% of people didn't know who he was before...and they thought it was a retarded fan by the way he was acting and conducted himself. Come to find out it was a washed up entertainer who wanted some attention. He got a few headlines only because it was attached to Michael. A month later people forgot who he was...or only remembered his name and associated it with an ass-goblin who desperately wanted attention by disrespecting a fellow artist like a pathetic child.
A) This was a British TV show, and people in Britain certainly do remember who Jarvis Cocker is; and B) Jarvis Cocker is not someone who measures success by fame (and that's coming from someone who is not a huge fan of his music). If you bothered to research the guy a bit more you'd have realised that, the guy is hardly a typical popstar.
Doudi Didi i wouldn't dream of "coming at you" in any conceivable way, and MIchael, since his death is certainly no longer a paedo, although i personally can't vouch for how "swet" he is.
First I would like to state that I am not a Michael Jackson fan...cleared this my impressions about Mr Jarvis Cocker ... just a cocky little man who increased his notoriety with a cheap vulgar gesture...at 6:01 when directly interrogated he mumbles a semi-conservative answer resulting into a ridiculous attempt to defend his miserable character.
He didnt invent the moonwalk, he popularized it. He was still highly successful even 20 yrs ago. Thats 1989. Dangerous hadnt even came out. Jarvis is a great artist we all know he was intoxicated at the awards and in this vid he should have worded himself better.
Carl That's hardly the point. Cocker makes a point against MJ proving how little he knows about a fellow artist, he so willingly bullies, every time he's asked. But thing is, Cocker f*ck up his own carreer nicely: nobody will ever know anything else about him, but that he once made fun of MJ.... What a legacy. The funniest is: he can thank all his fame to MJ... Mission accomplished.
oh please, MJ is a true original, no-one out there was like him! who can you compare him to? jarvis was just another regargitated Morrissey britpop wannabe, all that fake geekiness can only work on one album.
Lol, Cocker saying MJ hadn't made any hits in the past 20 years. His last album sold 13 million copies. Oasis' last album sold 1/3 of that. Case closed. :)
quite right, hardonne. jackson didn't bear a grudge. right after he got his lawyers to try and prosecute cocker with a false accusation of injuring a number of children, he put it behind him and forgot all about it!
I understand the opinon on the 1996 Brits performance, it was over the top... but as for everything else he said it's kind of disrespectful... Dangerous and HIStory were incredibly successful and have some absolute classics as well as having many number one hits. plus, he didn't just invent the moonwalk, to put Michael Jackson's visions and talents into just that one thing is a complete injustice in itself... the reason he's looked up to so much is because he broke down racial and social barriers through his music (MTV were failing and refused to show Billie Jean, because they rarely feature black artists and music that wasn't rock, but they had to show it just because it was so popular, this allowed artists like Prince and later Beyonce to have a huge step in into industry with the hopes of international stardom), he invented many dance moves (the smooth criminal lean, the Billie Jean Kick, crotch grab stuff, the shuffle forward movement he does, the strut and loads more), plus the guy gave over a third of his income to charities, broke countless world records, pretty much revolutionised the music video and tours
No its not a "little harsh" It's FUCKING stupid lmao. like I actually pity the guy. Dangerous is the 11th best selling album in human history. History is a top 50 selling album of all time, and invincible in 2001 sold 15-20 MILLION albums. no, what you mean is YOU haven't heard of him. I think we both know that's something completely different. and just so you do know, pulp were one of the most amazing and influential british bands, had fantastic records, and jarvis cocker's sunday service is the quite possibly the most amazing radio show in existence. perhaps you should have looked that up before making claims.
MJ didn't make great records in the last 20 years? Black or White? Jam? In The Closet? Remember The Time? Heal The World? Who Is It? Give In To Me? Will You Be There? Dangerous? Scream? They Don't Care About Us? Stranger In Moscow? Earth Song? (massive hit) You Are not Alone? (also a massive hit)
@@dannyhuskerjay it charted in many countries. Not in the US though. It was number 1 for 3 months on Czech radios and in many places throughout Europe and and rest of the world.
Exactly. I can't believe that there are people out there who actually think that Michael was making himself out to be a god in that video. It's people like those who have twisted minds.
I would never known this CLOWN if it wasn't for Michael. Good to see he didn't have a life or career after that
3 месяца назад
Quite the opposite, even before that whole thing him he was -and still- is a prolific musician, amazing performer and outstanding radio host, among other things ;)
“He invented the moonwalk”? What? Michael was way more than that. I hate the misconception he was only who he was for the 80s. When I think of Michael and all his influence- the moonwalk feels like not even a penny worth of what he brought to the world
@@channelbizt . ....isn't "who cares" a rhetorical question.? Your question wasn't asked to elicit a compilation of people that are concerned whether the statement "MJ invented the moonwalk" was factually correct or not. Was it.?
Also, about pretending being Jesus, we all know about the Last Supper picture MJ's had hanging on his bedroom wall above his bed, with himself instead of Jesus, and other famous people like Walt Disney around him, as the apostles were around Jesus. I think this is odd. But still loving him, and may God forgive him for "any" blasphemy. RIP MJ.
Jarvis doesn't know that MJ didn't invent the moon walk. I don't think he give a toss about ever knowing... That's not his scene. Touch little boys isn't his scene either.
For him to say Michael's music wasn't good for the past twenty years is laughable..Because if it wasn't as good as Mr.Cocker says then Michael wouldn't have sold over 1 billion records world wide. Also the performance on the Brit awards that Mr.Cocker was speaking of was a great performance. Yes it may have been over the top but it still got the fans screaming Michael! Michael!
You only have to look at the top 10 most viewed RU-vid videos (Bieber, LMFAO, Lopez etc.) to see that popularity does by no means equal great music. Like Mr Cocker says in his song 'Running the World', "shit floats".
Jackson has not sold 1b records. The Beatles did that in 1986 and it was recorded in the GBOWR that year as being so. Jackson has not reached that and likely wont. Even with the latest release he's sitting at around 750m. Keep claiming it but it's not so and there is nothing to back up fans claims. Saying it does not make it fact.
@rorrt Ok shake on it. I am in defence of MJ he was more than an artist to me he was a good person & people took liberties lets face it MJ wasn't the usual rock star playing up to the part loads of women parties he just wanted to climb a tree & make music & he cared about the world as a whole so I will defend him as a person because he was so sweet & naive but humble he didn't deserve what he got.
I agree theres no comparison cause theyre completely diferent genres. MJ was manufactured to be the universal perfect pop prince since he was a sperm (too cheesy for my taste), which is not JC's style at all, he does his own thing(Witty, original poetic.) MJ obviously had a say in how the performance went even if he did not come up with it: People dressed in rags on their knees to MJ, being healed by him, holding his arms out like Jesus...I do find that tacky, cheesy and distasteful.
Why does he keep referring to the “mid 80s” ?? Has he ever heard of You Are Not Alone or Black or White that were massive hits in the 90s? Not to mention You Rock My World which blew up on the radio in 2001 from his last studio album and still is my favorite song by him until today. I can’t recall a single song by this guy. In fact I’d never heard of him. If he wants to talk about sad, it’s him
@@deanosaur808 At the end of the day this man, who I literally already forgot his name, is a piece of shit who tried to pull a ridiculous stunt on Michael to make his name more relevant. How pathetic.
so jarvis.. you know ....michael wasn't a genius just because he invented the ''moonwalk'' he was a genius because he did something that you never did and will never do even in the 80'90'00' ...in fact he didn't invent the moonwalk ..(and he said so many times) but he was very proud of genius like fred astaire or jakie wilson
who is this guy? I had never heard, and Michael Jackson anyone? only the whole world .. kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
well this guy jarvis has good voice a little bit but as a person acts silly and boring not to mention disrespectful...Michael on the other hand seems very nice person and talented genious musician
ENVY, this is the reason these people were dying of envy the success of Michael, so did these stupid things to parecer.que sorry for them...hahahahaahahahaahahahaha
Cocker doesn't know what he's talkin' about. That Jackson hadn't released anything great during the last 20 years of his life? Oh, come on!!! HIStory (1995) is his meanest album ever and that level of fury, gloom and urgency serves its contents excellently, because it resulted in his arguably brainiest release ever. It is, by the way, also the biggest-selling double-album in history, no pun intended. :-) His next release, Blood on the Dancefloor (1997), has got some serious retrospective reviews and is the biggest-selling remix album in history. His last studio album released during his lifetime, Invincible (2001), is quite uneven in quality since like about one third of it is fairly questionable; however, the rest/majority of it is without a doubt some of the most impressive pop music to have emerged in the past 15 years. Plus the album, in spite of an insufficient promotion, managed to sell 13 million copies worldwide. Sorry, Jarvis, that Jackson got mentally messed up due to the 2005 trial and hadn't got to release any new material in the last 6 years of his life. What a massive problem, eh?
Bava 72 it says a lot abot Jarvis taste if he prefers some simple eitghties tunes to complex, deep and highly creative songs on MJ's nineties albums...
Sam J Sure, They don't care about us, Stranger in Moscow, Scream and - though hardly a personal favourit - You are not alone are hardly "B sides rubbish"... not even in MJs dicography. Others were happy w/ most of MJs Bsides songs, anyway.
true, brian, although it must be remembered that considering nuitetjours, strangefruit, hadronne and sunnyday are all the same person, he did tremendously well. it can't be easy skipping from one channel to another in the heat of a debate, especially with only one ball. in the end, though, bad temper and lack of imagination proved his downfall, in much the same way as it did in 1945
@@Fireglo Dude, that doesn't prove anything. I listen to a lot of quite unknown progressive/minimal house stuff, 90s rap, Drum&Bass and alternative music besides Michael Jackson. I only know about this guy because of the MJ-incident. If somebody doesn't listen to a specific genre of music and therefore don't know musicians who are exemplary for that style, how could somebody know about a certain singer who does that kind of music? Also, I guess that many people in this comment section aren't from the UK, so you can't expect the people to know about somebody who was/is pretty popular in the UK, but barely known in other countries.
Oh he’s only gotten a quadruple platinum album and a mercury award as well as the #6 album of all time according to NME, I know this was 7 years ago but it really narked me, Jarvis was one of the greatest artists of his generation.
This guy doesnt even know what he is talking about. It is beautiful to think we could solve our shit world with music and love. Michael did Man in the Mirror, Heal the World, Earth Song, Cry and co wrote We Are the World. See any other artists doing that? No. Why? Because it doesnt make money. He did make money off of it, because he is awesome as fuck. I dont believe in Jesus Chris or God or another religious icon, but he felt close to Jesus, and to me, he came as close to being that. Without the miracles, just wanting the whole world to be in peace. He cared a lot about the world and the children.
Acting like you're Jesus and saying you're more popular than Jesus are 2 completely different things. Offensively pretending you have the power to heal a starving African child is way different to a throwaway sarcastic remark.
@@FiregloAnd what do you think We are the world did? It helped starving African children. Michael and Lionel Richie wrote it. And music itself heals too. But, I don't think Michael ever pretended to be Jesus but he was hoping his music will unite people. Michael's music was always filled with words of love and unity. That was his goal.
whats wrong with an id card? as long as your not a serial killer why would you not want one? ps. mj still hasnt been equalled. Cockers 2 claims to fame, disco 2000 and sharing a stage with an actual genius at the britawards.
Obviously this Jarvis dude doesn't much about music at all, ...after all. But I kinda sense some sarcasm in what he says, however I still resent him and find that he brought nothing to the music industry whatsoever as opposed to Michael Jackson who paved the way for so many.
Its funny how Michael gave him a lesson by being kind and never saying anything bad about Jarvis even tho he sabotaged his performance, not one thing... but Jarvis, thats different story... thats the big lesson, thats what Michael was, he didnt think of himself as a god, he only claimed that art is an instrument of god thru people... he was a spiritual person.
@omario8816 No, of course, he just enticed them into bed for no particular reason, and then paid them off with millions of dollars when they went crying to the police...
@rryhTGYHGFIp8oiy6ywa You removed your comment "mj never did that and if u dont have any proof i suggest u stop telling me that and i aint a loser because i dont have to go around trashing people to make myself feel better so good luck with that". There is proof - he paid Jordy Chandler off!
Gary Glitter has done a lot more than normal people, but do you think he deserves to be on the front of every available publication when he dies? Just because michael jackson had talent doesn't make his life anymore important, and he shouldn't have got that much coverage.
@strangefurt64 I don't give a toss it is not about same opinion as me. If you applaud anyone making fun of anyone performing live on stage then that's your mentality Im just glad its not mine. MJ was humiliated & demoralised like no other artist in many ways throughout his life but he rose above it & got back up. Anyway let the man rest in peace after all he had a good send off watched by billions around the world so that says it all.
@rorrt Why say that? Well the reason being when you have worked your socks off since the age of 6 sacraficed a childhood to give the world brilliant entertainment like MJ did who the hell is this little prat Jarvis to jump on the stage & make fun of anyone in that league because the act wasn't to his liking. MJ wouldn't put crap out all his albums were good History remix top selling multiple disc of all time,Dangerous,Blood on the Dancefloor,Invincible all genius.
@rorrt Never said he trying to take the place of MJ but someone like Jarvis should show some respect to all artists he aint that musically gifted whatsoever. So Jarvis say's MJ was like Jesus & you all follow. That was his defence for his own stupidity. I saw the whole thing the only clowns laughing were at the Jarvis table the rest of the audience looked disgusted but hey then there are you guys but you would still be a minority.Jarvis no a man that a cowardly immature way to carry on.
@nuitetjuors1 wateva dude believe what you want to believe. but i hope you know that there wasnt actually any hard evidence and they didnt really have anything to pin on him despite their investigations. also one of the alledged victims even cofessed after his death that it was a lie. anyway i doubt that this will make you reconsider despite the obvious evidence but there you go. its always the good honest people that are targeted and brought down. just goes to show how sad this world is.
ok jarvis, MJ might look like jesus to you, but tbh he is jesus compared to you. Having earned $500 million in his life, and with his charity work during his lifetime (probably outmatching your entire net worth) i'd like to see you reach even a fith of his status, but your annoying song "common people" is probably unheard of outside radio reach of the uk. As this vid pretty much proves MJ is your true claim to fame. so peeps who looks better on stage moonwalker or Mr i'm so flamboyant cocker
@msmichaeljackson1993 The Brit Awards performance was everything Jarvis Cocker said it was. How you could see that and not see megalomania and a messiah complex is beyond me. "Special?" He was no more special than you or me. What made him so special? He was an entertainer. "Saint"? "Prophet"? Are you serious? I suppose I should be thankful that you admitted he wasn't actually a god. Did you struggle to reach that conclusion?
@msmichaeljackson1993 Well, I don't know how I could possibly dispute it, if you have videos on your page. What was I thinking!? What the hell do you even mean by "semi-divine figure"? Yes, he was a megalomaniac with a messiah complex. How can you possibly say he was humble? Did you actually witness the Brit Awards spectacle they're speaking of? It was nauseating. Mike was a lot of things, but humble wasn't one of them.
I am still not understanding his point as in why the hell he mooned MJ on stage??? What? All because he looked like god to you??? Please, you were in a drunkk state and got ticked off because of how your dunk but interpreted it. Furthermore, the guy needs to stop. His records after the 80's were just as good and I can go as far and say that they were even better those in the 80's. After listening to this guys music, I think he shouldn't be the one talking about artistic excellence.
how envious of cocker to assume jackson was pretending to be jesus, just because he was standing in white robes with arms outstretched, healing children by touch. it's obvious to anyone with half an eye he was doing an impersonation of batman. and yes, he did cure people. 1996 was a rough year for me and i thought i would never laugh again until i saw his performance at the brits.
So, based on your own arguments, what maes YOU so sure that he did it? How can you prove that ? I highly doubt he ever say that in clear words. I heard it from the horse's mouth, in an interview that was never intended to go public, but eventually did..I listened and gathered a lot of information about it, then made up my mind about it, and when you connect the dots, many things make sense.. the way he talked about himself and his childhood, his illness, his shyness, etc
Nah he's not like Morrissey and he's a real geek. MJs father spanked him into the music industry, (im not making light of child abuse) he was morphed into a popular product. Original or not I find that performance tacky. Nothing will change my opinion or yours so lets get over the fact that a guy we never met annoyed another guy we never met cause he was doing something irritating. Nobody was killed.
jarvis was, is, an will be a cool artist, intelligent and whith class, mj was a poor child in a adult body. you said that yoou´re black. what dýou think about what he did whith his body anD face?. he wanted to become in a caucasian man. he wasn`t pride of his people... you must be fan of people who fighted for your rights like malcolm x, or people like zak de la rocha, mummia,... i don`t understand it
Again - I don't know what you are talking about. You are a professional ranter. Racism? Nationalism? Whats that got to do with the 'wacko'? Did you forget to take your medication? You've made more posts here than any video I've ever seen. Its quite sick what you'll do to defend a person you don't know personally. A very scary wacko fan indeed.
of shit, she's back... i was using YOUR system of evaluation if you remember. what my real point is, you don't HAVE to have a worldwide influence on the world to be entitled to an opinion on someone else's behaviour. and don't worry, he's not in the american top 40 so you wouldn't know about him anyway dear
Standing in a white suit with your arms outstreached while many people dressed as african children and poverty stricken families beg at his knees and try to embrace him is pretyy much acting like some form of divine being. Theres sending a message because you care and theres sending a message because you want to look like you care. He slept with children, go world peace!
my mistake- FOUR times! it's not exactly a witticism of your own is it? and if you take the trouble to read the piece under the headline it merely says cocker was unprepared for the questions asked of him. it doesn't actually support your constant jeering hatred of the man.
@msmichaeljackson1993 I'm not interested. Especially since you're completely delusional and seem to have a very shaky grip on reality. I'd me willing to bet you're not actually "ms michael jackson", am I right? No need to answer, it was rhetorical.
