With Nicki/Julia Stiles, when she said, "...it was difficult for me, with you. You really don't remember anything?" (Bourne replied, "no"). I believe she was saying, without actually saying, that she had fallen in love with him. She was helping him with his psychological issues, due to the training, and she just fell for the guy. I am guessing that it was an unrequited love, that is, they never kissed or anything, but that she cared for him deeply. They probably shared a bond but it was under the surface, you know? I love that. It's not as "juicy" as it would be if they actually hooked up but it's beautiful and heartbreaking and human.
Great reaction! Nicky's death hit just as hard as Marie's. Maybe harder honestly. It was tough watching Jason lose the love of his life in Marie. But it was just as tough watching Jason lose perhaps the last person in the world that truly cared about him and that he cared about. Throw in the fact that Nicky's final act was to protect him, and I'm not sure you can pack more loss for a character into a scene. Being that alone has to be rough.
@@cinemawithsteph Jason at that moment is essentially a ghost and it's written all over his face. It's like the quote says, we die twice: "once when the last breath leaves our body and once when the last person we know says our name." Nikki was the last person he truly knew.😢 I recommend checking out some of the best movies from the rest of this cast. A Man from U.N.C.L.E for the CIA agent that tries to play him. The Fugitive for the old evil CIA Director, and Rogue One for the tech billionaire. All are great movies that make for fun reactions.
Steph you’ve stolen my heart 😂 Thank you soo much for reacting to these films. You don’t understand how long I’ve been waiting for someone to react to the whole series rather than just 1 or 2 and leave. Sharing your content :)
Thank you so much! I love watching reactions too and I understand that frustration so I’m going to my best not to quit in the middle. Unless the audience has a general consensus of not wanting to see it lol
I don't think Nicki really understood how much Bourne cared for her ..the last film he loved her enough to let her go and keep her life ...this death really took a tole on Jason in the death of her .
@@davidblack4695 Just before she got shot for the second time by the asset, he was literally about to go and save her but then the asset fired a second shot. That completely ruined me watching this in the cinema
@@cinemawithstephI wanted Jason and Nicky to go off into the sunset I always believe they had a romantic past history ❤️ and it was going to be realised but still love the movies 😊
Okay, now you've done it. Anyone who goes through all 5 of the Bourne movies (including The Bourne Legacy) certainly deserves my subscription. Looking forward to what you may have in store for the future! Thank you so much for doing this. I had a blast watching you react to my favorite franchise🙂.
Steph, the main "asset"/assassin is the actor Vincent Cassel. He and Matt Damon played in the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy of films. The OE films are really fun Heist films and I think you would really like them! They also star George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and many other great stars. They are really fun and a couple of them take place, largely, in Las Vegas. They are based on some Frank Sinatra movies that came out in the 1960's (ala Rat Pack). Check them out!
I always thought Nikki would be a great character to base a TV show around. What was she up to during those years? Hiding, learning, rescuing operatives from their sick bosses, falling for the wrong guys because they reminded her of Bourne, or because they were nothing like Bourne. Methinks her hack in Iceland wasn't the first time she appeared on the grid and then disappeared again. But if you can't get Julia Stiles to play her, forget it.
So glad you watched this bookend film! I remember being so excited when this came out back in 2016; this definitely was a stroll through memory lane! Great reaction as always :) Can't wait for the next film you decide to react to!
32:40 NIcki's death wasn't "pointless"; she sacrificed herself to throw the titular character the memory stick so that he didn't have to come and get it from her/try to save her life and put himself in the line of fire.
You were on fire with your in the moment predictions during this reaction. Door to the face? Check .😁 The books were so far removed from any of these movies, they (the books) were a product of the time, Hong Kong independence after the British Lease expires, a fellow called The Jaguar, etc.. These films are loosely based on the concept of Jason Bourne, really..... Yet another fun reaction, it's always a treat. Thanks, have a great one!
After the Jason Bourne movie, l was also left wanting. I came across a book tilted Robert Ludlum's The Blackbriar Genesis, it was actually written by Simon Gervais; the book was written as a novel in the Jason Bourne universe. Robert Ludlum only wrote three novels in the Bourne Series, the series was further extended by Eric Van Lustbader; following Ludlum's death in 2001. In fact, The Bourne Legacy was written by Eric Van Lustbader in 2004; he has written a further 10 novels in the Jason Bourne universe, between2007 and 2017.
Coincidentally, Matt Damon was born October 1970; his character, David Webb(aka Jason Bourne) was born September 1970. This makes them both, the same age.
I'm very happy that you did this whole franchise and it was a blast. Looking forward to what you have in store for us next, keep up the great work steph.🥰
You're a pleasure to watch! The Matrix, John Wick, and The Equalizer series in your future? :) Would love you to react to those and I'm sure you'd thoroughly enjoy!
Tom Clancy wrote a series of novels about a CIA analysis named Jack Ryan, which were made into movies. I would recommend checking them out, with the prospect of reacting to them.
I agree. Nicky had to have had a past relationship with Bourne. She seemed disappointed when she asked if he remembered her or the past. I need closure or some type of verification of their romantic relationship
After Ultimatum, Damon said that he'd only do another if the story felt right and Greengrass directed... He refused to do cash grab movies because (in his words) he didn't want to do "The Bourne Redundancy" I believe there were thoughts to do a final film with both him AND Renner after the Treadstone TV series, but there was never a screenplay good enough and now with Renner's injuries....
ur not alone.. iin Ultimatum what Nikki said made u think they had a previous relationship that Jason couldnt remember due to his condition and we never find out more
The Bourne Stuntacular, a stunt/stage off-screen of the movies features and implies Nicky was still alive and she's faking her death in order to protect Jason. She even goes on to state that her relationship with Jason is "complicated"... So if you that as canon then yes, Nicky is still ALIVE 🥰🥳👏
Again, thank you for reacting to this series. There was actually also a 1980s film (The Bourne Identity) starring Richard Chamberlain that was actually closer to the books in terms of the period and the storyline. I don't know if it did that well though. Anyway, I'm going to move on to your Blade reactions next...
I never liked the fact that Nicky was killed off. I’ve always suspected the only reason she was killed off was because this was the time where Alicia Vikander had a lot of buzz around her after her Oscar win so when she was cast they wanted to make her the main female character.
They killed Nicky! I figured you were going to take it hard too. It was killing me not to give it away or prepare you. I agree one hundred percent with your review. What a fun ride though! Thank you so much, it was fun to watch with you. I'll look forward to seeing more.
Yes it's a book series, but the films are quite different. I haven't read any of the books. But one time I found one book in a bookstore, the title was "The Bourne Objective"... And the story stared in Bangalore, India. (If I remember it correctly)... In the movie series we have seen Goa, India, but not Bangalore.
Agree to Disagree, this one (IMO) lacked the necessary Closure to be considered the Final Film; even the Ending seemed to imply that Bourne could still come back again, someday...if He really wanted to.
Great set of reactions. JB is not my favorite but it is ok. I really liked how did the Bourne Legacy as part of the set! If you want a spy movie that is partly true, check out Argo starring Ben Affleck, John Goodman and Alan Arkin. I think it won or was nominated for several awards. It is about the Iran Hostage Crisis. See ya
what nicky said in the 3rd movie was "you really dont remember do you?" that wasnt about their relation ship but it was about her still having doubts that he cant remember anything. i hope this helps :)
Hi Steph love the nose ring by the way, great reaction. A movie I think you'd enjoy was ahead of it's time, underrated when it came out and aged well. 1992 "Sneakers" has an all star cast and a bit of everything. Action, suspense, comedy, and some romantic elements. I highly recommend you check it out happy cinema👍
I always assumed Nikki had a special connection to Bourne but not in a romantic way. She talks about him being different. I got the feeling he was never just a cold hearted killer, like the rest of them. (I may be wrong. I've never read the books).
@@cinemawithsteph I’ve always felt that director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon didn’t really want to come back for another Bourne movie; I think they just gave into the public demand for it.
The way she said "It was difficult for me.. with you" implied that there was something there. My read was that she had an infatuation of sorts and that he was aware, but not necessarily participating.
As for the Bourne books and the movies, the first movie was pretty close to the book, the second less so, the third had little to do with the book and so forth. The Bourne books are slow burns and veer off on strange ways at times compared to the more tightly written movies that are less suspense/thriller like the books and more action orientated.
Hey Steph , I'm glad you like the series it's one of my favorites . I think it tied a few loose ends with this finale . I imagine Jason and Nicky had a hot and heavy relation ship although probably difficult being separated for weeks or maybe months at a time being in the black ops program . The look in her eyes when he first told her he didn't remember anything kind of crushed her inside
I appreciate the ranking! Certainly different from mine, and that’s the beauty of movies. You can see the same thing and have totally different perspectives
@@cinemawithsteph Absolutely. I always get a kick out of seeing RU-vidrs post their enormous James Bond ranking videos - and there's even variance over which films get included too.
Love Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender's wife, in pretty much anything she has done. Alicia did a great job recreating and making Lara Croft a more believable realistic character in 'Tomb Raider' rather than the oversexualized "playboy" look Angelina Jolie portrayed as Lara.... not that staring at Jolie in that outfit wasn't fun but, you know😊
Congrats, Steph! You've completed the Bourne series! 👍 I'm with you in your disappointment in Nicky getting offed, particularly since her relationship with Bourne was never elaborated or explained. So what can we look forward to next? 🤔
If you want to see good espionage films (Not action adventure) "Red Sparrow" (the only fault is it makes the CIA look good) The Bourne Identity (1988) TV mini series. "The Russia House" "The Ipcress Files" "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" "Funeral in Berlin" "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (1974 TV series) "Smiley's People" (1982 TV series)
I found it a little irritating, that they alluded some kind of relationship prior to the Bourne identity with Nicky and Jason… and they never went forward from there. Also, Nicky finally becomes a bad ass and THEY KILL HER OFF.. I think her character had so much potential, and to have killed her off so early into the movie was offensive to the fans.
It’s supposed to be a realistic film. People in the real world out there don’t care about your loved ones, they have 1 mission only and will travel to the end of the world to get that mission done. These Bourne films are all realistic
