Javed saab is a street smart fighting cricketer. He was ahead of his times, especially in Pakistan, who had colonial hangover. He , as Country's Cricket Captain , asked Mike Gatting to pack his bags and leave the country, when the latter had finger waving fight with umpire Shakoor rana. Javed lifted his bat to hit , the originial bully of the cricket, Dennis lillee. This is significant for the fact that no one used to mess with fast bowlers those days, and the popular perception would be there be retaliation with bouncers and there was no such 2 bouncer rules. As Rameez saab mentioned , his consistency was good. He is not orthodox in his batting, but very effective. One more aspect which people often forget is his agility as a close in fielder, who was instrumental in getting many opposition batsmen run out. He was quick between the wickets , especially considering the fitness of cricketers those days. Even in life- as a person from muhajir family, he fought manfully to make his career in Pakistan.

Javed Miandad is a legend. I’m lucky to watch him play “live”. And Mr. Ramiz you are lucky to have played with him. I am envious.

Only those people can understand the level of Javed Miandad, who has witnessed him playing during his playing days. He may not be too pleasing on the eyes but what a great tactician, game reader and dependable player he was.

First time I ever watched Test cricket was when I was around 14 years old and we had moved to NZ. In that Test match Javed Miandad scored 271!! What a player!

Apart from being a batting legend, Miandad had the extra ordinary quality of grooming young batsman. He used to spend a lot of time with youngsters at net, training & mentoring them.

Absolute Legend.. Pakistan's downfall in the 90's started when after Imran, Javed was not allowed to be captain by the group led by Wasim, Salim .. Otherwise Javed deserved to be the captain until 96, after which Wasim should have the captain until 2003... We as a nation are good at shooting at our own feet

Pakistan needed coaches like him, i remember he was coach back in 2003-4 i think and yasir hameed was batting and he was struggling in late 90's and he pointed him to come out of the crease and play shot and that works.
