I still remember the Javelin when it was in all 3 of the Modern Warfare games. In every mission where you face a tank, you have an objective to grab a Javelin, and destroy said tanks A notable mission is Modern Warfare 2, when going full action movie, you use a Javelin to destroy about a dozen Russian BTRs and Havoc attack choppers, as you defend an evacuation site at the Washington Memorial

I remember most the Paris mission in Modern Warfare 3. I like to use it against the tanks and if I still had some ammo left on it, the helicopters. That was the first time I knew it could be direct or top down attacks. Other wise I always thought it only did top down attacks when I heard or saw a Javelin

I remember when I was a kid. I would sneak off onto my uncle's PC to play Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare when it came out recently. I got to the night mission where we got attacked by MBTs. The game gave me a Javelin and when I first used it, the missile went out, flew high and went directly right on top of the tank with its top-attack mode, destroying it instantly. My kid brain thought then and there that the Javelin became one of the coolest weapons ever.

I was really hoping you’d touch on this, which ya kinda did, but one of the reasons the javelin is used on targets like bunkers is because it reduces collateral damage that an artillery or air strike would cause.

Apparently during the height of the GWOT, the going price of a CLU module was one MICH 2001 high cut helmet. Andy Stumpf told a story about it on a podcast where he used the Javelin to target infantry that was outside the range of their snipers, and air support would take too long. He got the CLU by trading one of the Navy high cut helmets with an Army SMU.

The Javelin command launch unit, is seriously getting obsolescent. Modern thermal imagers don't require nitrogen cooling systems for their microblometers. They should definitely upgrade the CLU I forgot what its called, I want to say PVS-23A, is smaller than a soda can. You can recognize people, its so high resolution. You can even see where people have icons on their computer screen. Its seriously wizard. Uses CR-123A batteries. Its pretty badass.

Awesome video!! I work at a warehouse on a military installation and issue Javelin training devices to the solders all the time. We have a classroom trainer which basically consists of a student station and an instructor station. The student station has a computerized Javelin that the student uses to get the feel of how the Javelin works. The instructor station consists of scenarios of how to put the weapon into operation and engage enemy targets. Also, we have a Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) of the Javelin that the soldiers will take out to field training exercises. This system goes through the same procedures as a soldier would go through on an actual Javelin, except the MILES version will emit a laser when engaging vehicles and will "kill" a vehicle as well. Think of this as a rather large "laser-tag" weapon. Finally. we also have an INERT or DUMMY Javelin that looks and weighs just like the real thing. Primary purpose of that INERT Javelin is to give the "lucky" gunner the experience of humping one of those things around the battlefield during field training exercises.

It has a second one: no NLOS firing. Non line of sight. Like Spike has. You can fire the missile before you lock on and use the missile itself to look for a target. Making it possible to use it for indirect fire. With Javelin you have to see your target and if you can see your target, it means that your target can also see you.

@@stevenrodriguez763 Perhaps a bit inaccurate. ERA is never supposed to stop Tandem warheads to begin with. The whole point of ERA is to detonate when struck, otherwise what's the point? Can anyone clear this up for me?
@YouTubeSaysThereCantBeTwoRyans
Quick fact: the scene from the batman movie, the batmobile was way to close for the missile to even arm itself. The missile needs a minimum of 65meters for a direct attack. That, plus the batmobile speeding forward, the missile would only have traveled a few meters before becoming a blunt object. Don't get me wrong, it would probably cause the missile to blow apart, but not in the way it was intended...or the place intended also

If the targeting system can be used independently from the javelin, could multiple javelins be linked to a single targeting system? If so, could they be fired consecutively or altogether? Also, if a single targeting system is able to fire multiple javelins, could the javelins be hidden in various locations (somewhat nearby if the range is limited), and the user hiding with a good vantage point and fire them upon a target?

This is the way RU-vid channels should be done… when talking about different weapon systems. You get right to the point with information that’s detailed, accurate, and factual. You talk about the way these weapons are depicted in TV shows and the movies, and what those TV shows and movies get right and wrong about the weapons. You present the information at a good steady pace so it can be easily understood, and don’y try to throw out a bunch of random facts in rapid fire secession meant for people with a 0.2 second attention span. But what’s more important is the stuff you DON’T do. > NO goofy voice inflection > NO bad jokes > NO unnecessary sound affects > NO rapid fire editing sequences meant to give the clips “energy", but are done with absolutely no skill and therefore it all ends up a train wreck. > NO starting every clip with the person making it on camera, with the first thing out of his mouth being: “Hey guys, so before I get to the subject of this clip I’m gunna talk about a bunch of personal stuff that has nothing to do with anything, because I know all my trillions of fans are on the edge of their seat waiting to hear every detail of my life…. because I am THAT interesting. So, I finally popped that blister on my ass….” Or something along those lines. If I had a nickel for every RU-vid clip that started out with the words “Hey guys…” I’d have a shit load of nickels… and about $80,000,000,000,000000. (aka eighty quadrillion dollars) I had no idea that the Javelin could be used on drones, or anything in the air for that matter. So now it can be used on tanks and bunkers, in an anti-personal capacity, AND against airborne targets. In the not too distant past you would have needed 3 different weapons systems to do those things. Not anymore. Literally more bang for your buck. I look forward to seeing any new weapons systems you add in the future. Great stuff. Keep it up.

The only disadvantage I can see with these types of weapons is the operator needs to have line of sight to the target, even if they can quickly take cover or retreat. An advantage and disadvantage for the Ukrainians is that they sometimes need to fire from near suicidal ranges because of obstructing trees. A solution (perhaps solved, or being solved?) is to have a separate designator like with laser guided bombs which could be a soldier in a tree line or from a loitering drone.

You have the two comical bulky ends & a rocket/missile that looks so ridiculous when it first pops out the launcher before it jet engages. Good video Johnny on a system I'm not very familiar with. I always had an aversion to the javelin for some reason. I think it's because Javelin look like what a child would roughly draw if you asked one to draw a rocket launcher. The USA in ww2 was the sleeping giant awaken by it's end but today from corruption & greed is a shadow of it's former self. The USA is in a sorry state for full out warfare logistically. The USA Buys a third of everything it imports from china being far over 1/2 of all goods by wait crucial to US industry in all sectors. Figures do not lie lad! The Uk has even more pressing main issue unlike the USA is a lack of willing soldiers/men as like myself we hate our champagne socialist politicians. 1 rule for them & another for us. Parliament is the biggest den of thieves in the world! Declining birth rate & bringing in million odd foreigner's each year till no unity remains! The are not acclimated nor scrutinised. If you think the UK or the USA are prepared for war with our own domestic issues you are delusional! Much of our issues stem from the EU & USA as well which is why I see the Uk returning to splendid isolation as you all have proven time & time again to be unreliable allies which is worse then the greatest of foes! Identity & racial politics of the USA cropped over here & the European pushing Bureaucratic collectivism to name only but a few sickening foreign influences. kind regards!

Caged armor has been used to great effect against shaped charges by many different forces the world over (America included) It may look silly, but if it works it works 🤷‍♂️

@@JM64 Yeah Im aware of slat armor, the cope cage mainly stems from a misconception that its only against javelins when it would be effective against stuff like RPGs

So with wire-guided missiles, is there just a big spool of wire that comes with it and you gotta hope it doesn't tangle on nothing?

Seen it in a few action movies? Dude that was the go to weapon to dislodge enemy’s from objective camping in modern warfare. Nothing better than sending your own mini predator missile from across the map to get that first blood award.

You can defend against them with laser, smoke, paint and foam soft-kill APS that hide from or distract the thermal targeting. Most countries don't use them however and opt for hard-kill APS like active armor as they don't expect to go up against Javelins rather small rebel groups who use RPG's, the Ukrainian war and the west arming Ukraine has changed that view and more are taking up soft-kill as a consequence.

유일하게 재블린은 대한민국이 운용을 안하는데 그 이유는 현궁이라는 대전차 유도 무기가 있었기 때문... 참고로 현궁은 이스라엘의 스파이크 미사일을 참고해서 만들었다.
