@@deanladue5367 they should have had that classic M1 "ping!" sound like you hear in Saving Private Ryan when the last shot allows the spring clip to pop out.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017I was gonna say M1 holds 8 and he only fired 6 but rewatching closely it does lock back and you can see the clip eject so good catch! Would’ve been funny/cool if they did add that sound.
roquefortfiles and as an unintentional perk makes you scared of going into water, after watching this movie I was so scared of water I wouldn't even get in my pool and when I had to I avoided the left side which was shaded. When it comes to evoking a particular sensation be it wonder, amazement or phobia producing terror, Steven Spielberg's skill is god tier, I have seen all of his movies (as far as I know) even the home made one he did as a kid
For those that never got to see this wonderful motion picture in the theater when it was released may I offer condolences. Back then going to the movies was an event, going to see Jaws was THE event.
I was only 4 yrs old at the time so obviously couldn't see it, but I had numerous relatives who did and they said the audience were on their feet cheering and screaming when Brody killed Jaws. You hear that and you know Steven Spielberg had done his job and then some - everyone on a hook!!!
You young folks can't imagine what it was like to have 200 people in the theater in 1976. We couldn't get in to the theater for a year! When we did the audience reaction (including myself) was staggering! When Brody "killed the beast" the place went NUTS! And when Hooper and Brody headed for shore, the place erupted with a stand-up clapping roar! Of course I was only 9 years old at the time (it was much more liberal at that time. I saw KISS the same year). Anyway, JAWS is the greatest film I've ever seen.
RedElephantStampede thanks man for sharing.I love old good times like the 80's. For me reading you and trying to imagine the theater in the 70's while playing these last scenes made me smile.I am so into those times.I wish time stopped there. In the 70's/80's. I don't see myself sort of speaking in these days.A world full of hate,of killing,of destruction,of selfishness,of rage, lack of values, lack of respect. Call me old fashion. Yeah I'm old school. But don't tell me that nowadays we don't live in a time where it's all about "me".A sick immature futile egocentric frozen society. I miss the social cultural connection between human beings. I grew up in a time where children played with each other for hours outside home.We interacted together as a specie. As humans. And we felt precisely like that...as humans! Kids nowadays just play portable PlayStation.Tablets at home.No friends. Technology is kid's friends today.Couples and other adults sit at a dining table and don't talk. They look at their smartphones or tablets.Families no longer communicate like we did in the past.Everything nowadays it's about being connected, fast information.I could go on with thousands of examples from the past and today's day. For what?kids that read me will say i am an old man.I am 32.lol But i miss what we were as humans.I try to pass it to my children but it's an hard task because the example that comes from media from all the info industry it's almost impossible to fight with words. Anyway i saw all jaws movies.1st one was epic. p.s.: sorry my english. not my native language.not perfect but i guess i made my point.
RedElephantStampede precisely because of THAT.....I want to be in movies myself!! Be part of something like this! That will have the same impact that it had on audiences, a phenomenon, and still be remembered 40 or 50 years later as one of the greatest films ever made!!! The cast, the cinematography, and the SCORE/SOUNDTRACK!!!!
@@dallasbrubaker6054 He's talking about clapping in the theater being more acceptable than it is today, most people sorta mind it when you do that now.
Fun fact, at one point reporters were calling this classic "Flaws" instead on "Jaws" because the enormous animatronic Shark kept sinking. They eventually got it to work and finished the Shark scenes. Best movie of all time.
Well the shark was supposed to be seen more in the movie. But because it kept sinking and malfunctioning that's where Spielberg came up with the idea to hide the shark for the first half of the film.
They said the same thing in 1997, the movie Titanic was over budget, the special effects wouldn’t work, and no one would sit the theater for 3 hours when you knew the ship was going to sink in the end
I hope they do a 50th anniversary screening! And if they do, I will have to disagree with Brody's line of "And I don't intend to go through that hell again!"
I cannot believe on TV the other night (some channels do away with the end credits now to save time) They actually ended the movie when they were swimming ashore! Just like that! You dont get the full effect until you see them slowly coming in when the credits are rolling!
VGB0009 and then countless sharks all around the world were killed because this movie scared the shit out of people. People are fucking idiots. Scared idiots. We let our imaginations get the best of us and it cost other creatures their lives.
Shaw played Quint perfectly. Imagine Spielbergs first picks (Heston, Hayden) playing Quint? I can’t. Shaw was a drunk, knew pain, knew hurt.... he was immense. Great casting! What a bloody great film. My all time favourite
The Inniapolis Scene gets me EVERYTIME. Growing up I had idea this was based on real events. He does such an amazing job delivering this speech...and Hoopers shocked face in the background of the scene....
This movie turns 50 years old tomorrow. Filming began on May 2, 1974 and was released on June 20th, 1975. Happy 50th birthday to ''JAWS PART 1''. This film will always be the BEST of all 4 films.
I've been watching this movie since I was 4 years old. Over three decades later and it's every bit as exciting and awesome as that first time. Just a brilliant film.
My all time fav film. Hadn't seen it in a theatre since 1975. Saw it again in a theatre in 93. Going in I wondered was it really as fabulous as I remembered? It was better than i remembered. It was incredible. The film is a flat out classic.
I hated, hated, HATED it when they changed the original sound effects to that crap it is now. That old fashioned ricochet sound effect makes the moment of the explosion all the more thrilling.
I never really realized this until now, but Brody had fired seven shots when he said "Smile you sonofabitch!". He was on his last bullet. M1 Garand only holds 8 rounds.
This ending was filmed over several days. Look at the sky in the scenes. The director knew this but also knew viewers were focused on the action and Jaws, not the lighting.
Jaws should never be remade why because it won't have great blue collar character's great soundtrack plus will not be memorable in the next 40 years same thing with Indiana Jones, Back to the future and so on.
As close as you can get to the perfect film. The shark was almost irrelevant. Just a story about the three character's struggles, and why they're on that boat.
That's because "Bruce" the shark almost never worked. Spielberg, Scheider, Shaw, and Dreyfuss got together in a motel room on Martha's Vineyard when the production was about to go under and re-wrote the entire script, plus Steven allowed his talented cast to ad lib and add their own acting cues to their characters - they went with their gut instincts and it worked brilliantly. Shaw wrote the famous U.S.S. Indianapolis speech and told it while they were actually half drunk on the boat set.
@@troyandrew6154 His struggle was against his own ego and that he thought he knew how to deal with any species of shark, and that he thought that stabbing it with drugs he had on board would kill it, but he ended up having to go into a cage in the water and get smashed to bits in the shark cage and having to hide til the end of the film. I’d call that a struggle, wouldn’t you smart ass?
1:22 Don't care what anybody says, that shark looks awesome and frightening in this shot, this and the scene where the guy gets his leg ripped off and he's screaming before jaws pulls him under the shark again looks amazing.
Bruce looks great there. Too bad they didn't pay more attention to having the sharks top Jaw gum line extended. It makes the shark look way more fierce.
I grew up in Florida. The beaches and the ocean were always packed. After this picture came out, the beaches were so empty that I could walk for several miles on the beach without seeing anyone. 👣
I Remember going to Jones Beach the following day after I saw it and forcing myself to go in the water or I would never go in for the rest of my life...I was a kid and know "amity island' was loosely based on Martha's Vinyard or Nantucket and wasn't too far away. I later figured out the Orcas mooring was based on Montauk was even closer.... of course now Long Island's predators are on 2 legs...
I remember the first time I ever saw this movie was at midnight at my grandparents’ house, my dad was trying to get me to go to bed but I was determined to watch this movie My sisters were asleep, my dad was asleep, but I was wide awake as I got chills from Brody’s victory shout
The distant roaring sound effect that can be heard at 2:47 can also be heard in one of Spielberg's earlier films called Duel (1971). You can hear it when the truck plunges off the cliff at the end.
Dude! Where were you this whole time? Umm at the bottom of the ocean watching you battle the most deadly shark ever! O... Ok let's go get a beer. LMAO!
Hoop Rewind How? Most of the story beats were the same as the original, most of the protagonists are teens that hardly get any character, and Brody's character takes a couple steps back.
Hear is my top ten favrite movies 10 super man 9 batman 1989 8 jaws 2 7 super man 2 6 spider man 3 5 batman begins 4 avengers end game 3 spider man home coming 2 goosebumps 2015 1 jaws
Man vs Nature, just splendid. What a masterpiece from Spielberg. They guy that knew the less about sharks, ended up killing the monster, this also happens in real life, those that you less expect, those are the ones that end up saving the day.❤
The roar sound you hear as the shark carcass drifts to the bottom of the ocean is the same sound that was heard when the truck goes over the cliff in Duel. Spielberg put that in as a tribute to Duel, for helping him get to the stage of his career to have done Jaws.
Just imagine Hooper's situation if Brody hadn't managed to shoot the shark in the end. He would've had to watch the shark eat Brody and then realize that the boat is destroyed, and that his only way to get back to land is by swimming. In other words, he would've had to wait for the shark to eat him too.
I love this film, remember my mum telling me she saw it at the cinema, when Brody killed jaws the whole cinema was up cheering.I am 48 and wish I could go back in time to see that.Dont make films like that any more.
Just noticed that if you pause at 2:18 there is a shot of Jaws coming out of the water for the final bite! Haha, been watching the movie my whole life and never knew this shot existed 😭😂😭😱😱👍👍
the tension built up at the end is spectacular. especially when the mast he is holding on to sinks into the water. losing his height advantage. the stakes are high and there is no way out
