It was a special experience to visit the real life Amity Island, and I'm glad I was able to have this video ready for the anniversary day of this blockbusting, cultural event... Oh, and I know I misspelled Vineyard Haven lol... Enjoy!
BRAVO, NICK!!!! You did a stellar job lining up scenes and locations DECADES later! You should be very proud! I was born In Massachusetts, had been to the Vineyard back in the 80s, but never really paid attention to the actual location. Will definitely plan a trip! How in the world did you score those empty street shots? Was it the luxury of off season or just EARLY Sunday morning? Great job, man. You knocked it outta the pahhhhhk....in the yahhhd.... not too fahhhh.... from the cahhhhh. : )
@@billbrock85 haha! Thanks a lot Bill!! I was there at the end of May and one of the early mornings was a Sunday. It’s a special place! Much appreciated!
Robert Shaw absolutely OWNED this movie. Every scene Quint is in is fantastic. The shark almost becomes irrelevant as the relationship between Brody, Quint & Hooper unfolds. Such a great movie. I wonder how different the movie would be if ‘Bruce’ worked more often.
After seeing JAWS, I wanted a mechanical shark for our pool! I know I'm weird, but it would of been so damn cool! Of course providing everybody knew it was a fake shark🦈🏊♀️ how fun !!!!
Massive Jaws fans such as myself have been waiting for a frame by frame re-enactment of the movie and locations for years. You, Sir, have done an excellent Job. You may be surprised at how many appreciate this.
I've seen one or two other "visiting Jaws shooting locations" videos. But what you did here was very ambitious. You visited every location in the movie that was accessible to you and even tried to recreate the framing and camera pans wherever possible. I'm seriously impressed.
every time, ever since i first saw this, whenever i eat a saltine cracker, i do the lines like he did in his first scene...accent and all. and im 51 years old....even at a restaurant.
@@salvatoresalvaggio2347 Robert Shaw himself did the final rewrite of Quint's speech. I believe what's on film is Shaw's rewrite of John Milius' rewrite of Howard Sackler's original speech. Steven Spielberg said that credit for the final speech is shared equally by all three men. But it's Shaw's mesmerizing performance that brings it to goosebump-inducing life.
Yes Robert Shaw delivered the USS Indianapolis story with some of his own preferences. What came naturally to him I guess. He was also suffering a severe hangover! Can't imagine anyone apart from Shaw playing the part of Quint. Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss were perfect too.
I rarely review these "filming locations" videos, but this one is truly in an elite category. Absolutely awesome screen matching along with split screens makes this an extraordinary video. Additionally, the explanations regarding the variances in structures and landscapes, add another layer to the viewing experience. Nick, you have obviously put a lot of work into this video, and you should be commended for such a professional effort. By the way, I list Jaws in my top five films of all time, and I am an avid SCUBA diver.
First off, I place JAWS in my Top 5 as well. Now, more importantly, thanks so much for taking the time to watch, appreciate and write such a thoughtful comment. Scuba is something I’ve wanted to try for a while but have yet to experience. I think I will finally give it a shot, just not off the shores of Amity lol.
Totally agree. Informative, engrossing and recorded in stunning quality. Definitely the best version I've seen! It wouldn't look out of place on a Jaws Blu-Ray as bonus material.
I absolutely love this video! So well done. The film “Jaws”was a masterpiece. No CGI. Beautifully filmed. I live in Wales, U.K., and have never been to USA but after watching this video, i feel like I have just been on a guided tour to Martha’s Vineyard. And at an enjoyable, relaxed pace, taking everything in. Great shot matching. Well narrated. Great job! Many thanks!
This was incredible. Took me right back to 1975. I was 10 when Jaws came out. This movie just never leaves you. I was born in Maine so the New England area and scenes like this always draws me in. I’m so glad I came across this video I loved it and could watched it scene by scene of the movie. Thank you X 100
I spent a month on the Florida Keys in 1976, from the UK, aged 21, just camping. There were fishing boats that went out just to catch big sharks, so the paying customers could cut the jaws out and clean them up to hang on the walls back home. It was sad to see the quayside butchery, just because of this film.
The effort and passion that went into this video is astounding. Props to you for finding the exact spots of shots from this film. Keep up the amazing work! This was a great watch.
Speilberg is Jewish and he was chosen, groomed and hired (due to nepotism) to be a big director. The committee and people at the studios have final cuts of these films and heavily edited them. Spielberg really just did the heavy lifting (filming on location, etc) the editing, music, marketing, etc he had absolutely nothing to do with and those are the things that make a movie good
I tell you, this was something special for me. Jaws is one of my favorite movies of all time and I can watch it from beginning to end at any moment. Just seeing the exact areas where the film was shot some 47 years ago feels like stepping through a time machine. And seeing what has changed, and what has remained the same in so many years is just so breathe taking and riveting. Just like the movie itself, it touches on the humanity of those characters because the acting was done so well. You feel their life and humanity throughout the film, and seeing the exact areas where it was shot and what it is today brings the same message of life and humanity. Things change over time but some things remain the same forever.
Your video editing is AWESOME! The back and forth between today and the movie, the seamless overlays, the description of what you are seeing and why you think it differs…all just truly informative, entertaining, thought-provoking and leaving you satisfied with the results. I’ve been on a few “I’m going to see the current locations in my favorite movie” trips for myself.. this was so well done, I’ll trust you to be there for me and really immerse me in the experience!
I really appreciate the thoughtful and generous feedback. That’s mighty kind of you to say. JAWS is a special movie and one my Top 5 favorite flicks. Glad you enjoyed the video. I’ll do my best to keep them coming!
I’ve watched a TON of these Jaws filming location videos. This one is by far the best produced. The still frames side by side are just perfect. Great work man!
Great job editing and great HD quality for shooting!Amazing how some locations look the same and some different so many years later!Jaws is one of my favorite films! Blessings in Christ’s Peace!🕊😇
One of my ALL TIME favorite movies!!!when I swim out too far in the ocean I start hearing dadnt dadnt!!!and I turn around and swim back!!! Thanks JAWS!!!
Very well done, this should be included on the JAWS Blu-ray as an extra. This movie changed American Pop Culture, it's stood the test of time and it's a piece of art that still captivates people of all ages.
By far, my favorite movie of all time...I've watched it hundreds and hundreds of times and it never gets old. I want to visit Marth's Vineyard just for this reason.
My grandparents lived on the island for their entire life basically and they showed me all these spots that I still see every summer, such an iconic place
Ahhh…the late great Murray Hamilton with a boffo performance as the Mayor!! Exceptionally stylish in his Anchors Sports Jacket! Gotta get me one of those!!
What a great job!! 👍 The wife and I are heading to the vineyard in a couple weeks. I've saved your video to frequent many of the spots of filming. My brothers took me to see jaws in the theaters when it came out. I was 5 years old and can still remember the head rolling out of the hull. Best freaking movie EVER!!!!! Thanks again, keep up the great work.
I grew up in Springfield, MA but never made it to Martha’s Vineyard. At 53, this remains my all time favorite motion picture. Your splits, matching, pauses and narrative are all terrific! Question for you: What kind of camera did you use? Looks 4K and crisp. You have done a very special thing for us fans. Thank you 🙏!
That’s great to hear from a true fan of JAWS! I actually visited Springfield once for wedding, stopped at NBA HoF. The camera is a Sony ZV1. Thanks for taking the time to write this, much appreciated!
As everyone else says... You did an unbelievable job on this. Being a lifelong RI native I've been a huge fan of Jaws. Last August (2021) I was able to spend a day on the island by myself (my wife had no interest in doing a movie scavenger hunt) and did my best to find as many scene locations as I could so I feel like I was following both the movie's and your footsteps from just a few weeks earlier. I wish I would have seen this video before that day as you provided so much incredible information mapping the "then" to "now". For Jaws fanatics, I think this video will become part of this legendary movie. Thanks so much for the effort and sharing!
It’s a special place to visit, especially for Jaws fans. Hope you get a chance to revisit. I really appreciate the awesome compliments, they are greatly appreciated!
Excellent video. I'm watching this as I have i "Jaws" playing on my TV. I love jaws, its a must watch every summer, even if its just playing in the background.
The best of that movie and to be honest one of the best scenes of any movie is when they were on quints boat and when he was telling the story of when his ship went down during the war
In 1975, the true story of the Indianapolis was sadly being forgotten as a footnote to a different past. But your right it was, and still is in my opinion, the greatest ever movie moment! The movie had everyone in a terrified suspense over just one shark. Those brilliant lines said by Robert Shaw made every movie goer realize that kind of fear was part of those who faced it for real.
Being from Michigan, I can totally understand the shoreline changing like that. Our beaches cycle up & down every 10 or 15 years or so (along with the dunes being in constant flux) I was glad to see not much else has changed though. Still as picturesque as I would hope....or as Quint would say "incredible"
For a film coming up on 50 years it's incredible how many locations are kept very much like they were when it was filmed. One big reason might be restrictions on changing historic locations and/or the desire to not want to modernize because the area would lose its seaside charm.
Amazing job! I'm also a huge Jaws fan and stay on MV every year for family vacations. Your facts and locations were spot on. Thanks for putting the video together.
Nailed it brother, My parents grew up on Martha's Vineyard and most of my family lives there. I know every inch of that Island. You got every scene perfect. Well done!!
Very well done video. Jaws is a classic, once in a lifetime film. As a 12 year old in 1975, it captivated everything about that summer. Coming back from a business trip in about 2006, I was fortunate to be on the same plane as Roy Schneider. He was very gracious as people offered a hello.
Dude, I'm floored. What a piece of work this is. For someone such as myself, having come of age along the beaches of Cape May County in South Jersey, this movie landed on me like a ton of bricks. To revisit so many of the locations which gave this movie its sense of place and charm, is unreal to me. Well done.
Jaws has always been one of my favorite movies. I've been obsessed with it since I saw it in the movie theatres when I was a kid! Your video is amazing! I enjoyed every second of it! Thanks for bringing us back to Amity after all of these years! And I agree with you, it's one of the best movies of all time.
Really amazing how drastically places can change over time... I think the town hall should have reconstructed Quint's house to make it a museum in homage to the film. And that would have brought them some nostalgic tourists... Like you! Thank you so much for all this meticulous work to restore the wonderful memories of this legendary film that has become legendary! 🦈
It certainly can be mind blowing at times to see the drastic changes and at other times lack of change over time. Thank you so much for making me feel like I did this special classic justice!
6:59 That’s so cool to me. I’ve watched Jaws countless times over the past few decades and seeing a whole new perspective like that makes it feel like a deleted scene or something lol
Just got back from Martha's Vineyard and watched this video. We visited all those areas, and you did an A1 job. Thank you for all you did to make this video. ❤️
This is so cool I’m from Plymouth Massachusetts as a kid in the late 80s I used to go over the vineyard to my aunts house every weekend! I used to bike around that island for hours and hours it was so peaceful I loved it ! Cool video 👍
The special edition DVD has an EXTENSIVE making of movie. Also read THE JAWS LOG by Carl Gottlieb if you want more making of. It was highly documented. Well done
Wow. I am not only into movie locations but into before and after photos matching 100 year old postcards with their modern locations. So I am aware how difficult it is to get an accurate viewing angle in order to compare like with like. To be able to do it with moving images is quite astonishing. Very impressive, and particularly bringing such a great movie back to life. Thanks for this Nick.
Mate, this video is utterly fabulous. Well done. We here in Australia also have a very special place in our hearts for Jaws. I too visited Martha's Vineyard in 1993 and walked around to check out these iconic locations. What a special place. Brilliant stuff. John from Canberra.
I met Warlock at a horror movie convention a few years ago. He was an unusually nice guy! Carl Gottlieb, the screen writer for Jaws was there as well and again, he was an extremely nice man. Both were willing to talk to fans and share stories.
Just subscribed. Loved your Jaws adventure. I spent my Summers there in 76 and 77 so we were there right after the filming and saw most of the original film sites before time took its toll. You did a great job of creating a wonderful memory for me.
I could imagine how awesome that must have been to experience back in those years, special stuff. Glad this video brought back those memories for you. Thanks for the awesome comment!
Loved this so much....my husband and I did this a few years ago-but to a much smaller degree than you have done-thank you so much for your extra time showing previous shots from the movie to today’s look!! It’s a such a magical place anyway-we enjoyed taking the a “Chappy” ferry-but like you, couldn’t really get a way to some of the spots we wanted to go to there-I also wanted to go to the bridge where Ted Kennedy drove off of with Mary Jo K!! Thanks again-really enjoyed this!
I was gonna say the same thing. I've watched a lot of these location vids for various films and tv shows but this one blows them all out of the water! (pun intended!)
Dude this was awesome. You did a great job! I’m with you, I was 11 when I saw this in the theater, I wouldn’t go in my pool. “ …you got your rubbers chief?”
This is by far the best Jaws shooting location video I've seen. Blending the film and present day locations together was excellent. I have loved Jaws since I was a kid.
As a kid, from 73 to 83. We used to vacation on the Vineyard in the month of August. I remember all these spots as a kid. What a flashback and great memories. Great vid. Thanks
This was great! Saw it 4 times in the theater in ‘75 and I was only 6 yrs old! Guess I was mature for my age but I loved it and from then on devoured every shark book my mother would buy for me including the one Brody is studying! Thanks for this!
I love shit like this. Incredible how you found the exact locations. And the way you do it with the simultaneous camera movements is awesome! Please do another movie, GREAT VIDEO.
You did an amazing job on this! Vicariously I was getting the same feels you were expressing. I have to compliment the format of transitioning between movie and current locations. Plus, the split screen, which is my personal favorite. Thank you for sharing your experience. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and definitely left a mark on me. I can relate to your swimming pool comment. When I was like 7 or 8 years old, I could not swim alone in my own pool once it started getting dark out. haha Thanks, Mr. Spielberg.
Bringing back fond memories of a movie I have seen, no joke, 1000 times. Appreciate the efforts you put in to pull this all together. And thank the Mrs too for allowing you the free time. Onya mate. Amazing how the waters where the movie took place are actually dangerous for swimming. Looks like you'd be gone like last weeks pay hey!
I am so happy, and thrilled, that you enjoyed your visit to Martha's vineyard, the location filming, to all the memorable scenes, really does give ,a real experience of being there, you can smell the salt sea air ,wet seaweed, all the things you would experience in jaws, when they were filmed, but now in 1 to 1 person . Thank you. And with sincere gratitude .!
Absolutely brilliant, thank you for making it. My favourite film. Spent my childhood in the 70's hearing about this film and talking about it with mates, every kid claimed to know someone who had seen it, but were too young to see it ourselves. Then VHS players arrived and I remember renting the video in the 80's and finally seeing it.
The first movie ever filmed on the ocean. Over 3 years to make. And the final cut copy was accidentally dropped in the ocean as well. Knowing it was so cold in those beach crowd scenes.. The use of focus pulling on Brody's (Roy Scheider) face when he sees an attack in the surf.. I think Hitchcock had used it prior..? Great film for the ages; never re- make Jaws. ever never no way Ray!
I'm amazed by how little has changed and it makes me want to visor these locations even MORE. And what an exceptional video, well done, best in class for this style of video
Aww. I've always wondered if the billboard was still there. THAT would have been the coolest thing to leave as a momento of filming the movie. It obviously would have had to have been repainted multiple times and mostly rebuilt after nearly 50 years, but would be awesome for it to still be there. It really seems like the town has chosen NOT to have anything around to commemorate the movie being shot there.
In certain ways they do.. Such as airing the movie every Sunday night in the Edgartown Theater. The souvenir shops are loaded w memorabilia.. However, no signage up anymore. I think they were getting stolen or something.
As much as we love the movie and being known for it the island is very rich with history from our native history and culture to the history brought here by the English and so on. We are also the only place on earth with a specific biome which I can’t remember what it’s called right now😅. It’s located in Katama. Not to mention we are the location of a Kennedy death (plane crash) and a Kennedy killing (car crash). We have LOTS of history thats way cooler than Jaws
Well; what an unexpected treat that was! Brilliant filming, editing and info. Thank you so much; great job. I saw Jaws when it first came out just after moving to South Africa as a teenager. Used to spend a lot of time in the water until I saw the film and found out how many great whites lived in these waters.
