Hi, When describing the direction a wave breaks we use the terms right and left. South would be the right hander, North the left hander. This wave no matter which direction it is surfed is very dangerous at this size. The reason the right is surfed more is due to it being a very intense "difficult" wave to surf, that's what these surfers are looking for... Also it offers a chance to get barreled. The left is horrendous, you do not want to get wiped by the left at that size.

From what I understand those copters are life savers with medical crews aboard. When we lived on Maui they were trying to stop tow out surfing due to the danger to everyone involved. I'm glad they didn't . These people are exercising freedom of choice.

It's pretty much like snowboarding with an avalanche on your butt.... insane... surfing is really the king of the sport, everything else is a game.

Safer but not necessarily longer. Most of the surfer go north. I am not sure why I choose to film going south. It is one of those second moment where you have to make a decision and I choose to go south. Maybe shooting north where the 2 surfers went would have been even more spectacular. O well!
