Jay’s Stair Makeover
Jay gets the whole family involved in making over their inside staircase. In the 1st video (of 2) Jay removes the old carpet, skirt boards and treads and replaces them with some beautifully stained stair treads and painted risers. As usual not everything goes as planned but like always Jay gets it done and Stephanie loves it!!

Hey Jay, just wanted to say thank for you for such high quality entertainment, and the added bonus of learning something about your DIY projects. One thing I wanted to mention is the "chest of drawers" at about 23 minutes is exactly like one that has been in my family for eons, down to the drawer pulls. There is no way I can part with it or refinish it in any way since imprinted in the top of it in my dad's handwriting is an "emergency" note he apparently scribbled out for my mother when my grandpa had a stroke. You have to catch it "just right" in the light to be able to read it. For many years we did not know it was there until I saw it by accident and mentioned it to my dad. He said he did remember writing the note in the early 1970's but could not remember what it said. We eventually pieced enough of it together to get the complete message since apparently he moved the paper a few times. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you. Who knows what could be imprinted into old tables and other furniture years ago that nobody realizes what is there and waiting to be read.

Jay and Stephanie, Wonderful project together. The way you got your stair tread and riser length, and angles is the way carpenters have done it for hundreds of years. It is quick and accurate. I like your videos so keep them coming. John in Missouri Valley Iowa

"It's boss Sir, to you steph" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jay, Jay, Jay, if ever you feel the need to pick spots of your handy work nip over to Mr build it and watch his siding or roofing clips. It popped up on my feed earlier and I had to laugh because some of the comments were advising him to watch BJW and PBB for advice. Don't get me wrong he still did a better job than my hubby could have done 😂😂

The stair angle jig will work with risers AND treads - way easier than stapling up or gluing up a template for every stair or riser. This is the best $40 you will ever spend and saves you hours of messing around. I bought this for one job and I'm glad I did, no regrets - time is money. You are lucky Stephanie is keeping an eye on you and supervising your work !!!! looks great.

@christophergarland5891

A tip for Jay. When you rip the back of the tread, rip it on a 5 degree angle. That way just top tip of the tread is the only thing touching the riser and you can push it in tighter. I also bevel cut both ends of my risers. Tricks to make your life easier.

@@lblbuilders google, dick Bentley "great camp". Bentleys relative was the lawyer for international harvester and owned the camp with McCormick. He is a writer and did a nice write up about the camp. A few years back we hiked to white deer lake. 7.7 miles one way. The foundations are still there but a guy took the log structures down. I talked with the guy but most the logs are shot now. The property still has bridges from the era that can be walked across. The fortress is a rock formation with a fire pit they used back in day still there. His wife would sun on a big boulder and when she passed away and was buried in Chicago he had the boulder dug up and hauled out and put on a train. It sits in the cemetery to this day. I hope to get back there and spend a weekend exploring.
