As great as this was, there's a similar PBS concert ten years later that has Jay Black singing this song. He's looking a bit older at 72, but his pipes are as strong as ever and actually better, in my opinion. He holds notes in that performance even longer than in this performance, and at one point, he even checks his watch while holding a high note. It's both comical and amazing. Check it out. It's definitely worth it.
PBS in TV show on doing more research on him being family members are in their website and they have pee wees playhouse and sesame Street area 50 years 30 years 35 years before New
WHAT AN AMAZING MAN. THE POWERFUL VOICE THE LOOKS JAY HAD THE LOT. ONLY ABOUT THREE (3) WELL KNOWN SINGERS COULD HIT THOSE HIGH C5 NOTES . THE BIG O ( ROY ORBISON). AND BARRY GIBB (BEE GEES). THOSE GENTLEMEN WERE BLESSED WITH A GIFT FROM GOD. SO SAD TO HEAR OF JAYS PASSING 2-11-38 TO 22-10-21. JAY (DAVID) BLACK YOU WERE ONE OF A KIND MAY YOU R.I.P.
What a great voice he had. At 62 in 2001 he really could hit those high notes. RIP JAY BLACK. You will always be in my heart ❤. You were such a powerful singer.

I was in my teens with this music and although I loved it back then, I appreciate it more now, and I’m 76. I’ve been watching videos of Jay Black lately and really appreciate what a tremendous voice He had. RIP Jay!
I'm 72 years old and was lucky enough to see Jay in New Jersey years ago. His voice made me emotional...so beautiful!! RIP Jay thanks for sharing your beautiful gift.
My favorite song - and greatest singer - RIP, Jay - 82, dead this week - Thank you for your continued pursuit of you avocation, profession, and love of music - Peace, T.K.
Roy, Jay, elvis, Nat King cole, Dusty Springfield, and many other singers who have given us musical pleasure over the years,: Vale ... you are not forgotten; and never will be ,,,
CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF JAY AND THE AMERICANS. WHAT AN AMAZING BAND. (DAVID BLATT) as JAY BLACK. YOU WERE SO SO GOOD THERE WERE NOT MANY SINGERS IN THIS WORLD WHO COULD HOLD THOSE HIGH NOTES AND CONTINUE WITHOUT BREATHING AND STILL FINISH THE WORDING JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD. DAVID BLATT (JAY) I DON’T THINK YOU KNEW IN YOURSELF THAT YOU WERE SO GOOD. MAN OH MAN CHAMPION BAND.---CHAMPION BLOKE. (man). R.I.P. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES JAY.
He definately had voice training at an early age. He was a cantor. That control of air from his lungs was practiced and practiced. I know. I practiced too.
This performance made a fan out of me all over again. I read that during the later years of his career, he spent much of his shows being a raconteur and was known as a witty, raunchy story teller. RU-vid old videos to remember what a sexy gorgeous guy he was!
I was about 9 years old when I first saw, and heard "Jay and the Americans", sing this song on television. I fell in love with the song and the singer that day. I will be 67 my next birthday and "Cara Mia" is still my No.1 song of all time. Love the song and will forever love the way Mr. Black sings it. His voice is perfect for the rendition of this song. 😊🤗💖 Update: Just found out Mr. Blatt (Jay Black) has passed away a few days ago...😔😢😫💔💔 my heart is truly sad right now. R.I.P. Mr. Blatt, and thank you.
I was a few years behind you hearing Jay And The Americans. I was 20 years in early 1980 stationed in Rota Spain when I first heard this song on AFRS. For this and a lot of other great music that I missed the first time around I am glad the AFRS played the older stuff. I hope your 67th is/was a happy one.
Did you notice the audience never stoped cheering. There's an audience keeping time to the music and an audience cheering. This audience, and rightly so, prominently was cheering his talent, performance, and his voice. Sorry for gushing, I am a hugh fan of this song and Jay. RIP Jay, you are missed,
Absolutely one of my top favorite singers. I had such a crush on him when I was young. That voice, oh that voice. RIP Jay, no one could sing like you. ❤
