This engine even SOUNDS like a signature Honda engine. Those who know the signature sound of a more modern B series, H series or K series VTEC engine, they all sound like this. It’s incredible. I love how you saw the Integra in front of it too. Honda motors are incredible.

The Fiat 1100 bringes back sneet memories from my early childhood. My father bought one in 1961 but my parents version was a Neckar Europa an 1100 produced under license in Germany. The reason he picked this was because it came with a folding rear seats (if memory serves me correctly). It was a lovely car with only one problem that it was somewhat overcooled during winters in Denmark. The cooling system probably works perfectly in Italy and California, the same in Denmark during summers. What my father ultimately ended up doing was to partly block off the air supply to the radiator with a piece of plywood during winter’s. Come April and the device came off, come November and it came back on 😃. It worked perfectly. If I am not mistaken the 1100 had an adjustable air filter where you could change the pickup point of the incoming air. During summer it drafted cold air from the front. During winter it could be rotated or changed somehow so the incoming air came from preheated area (this last feature might be from another of his car’s but I think it was the 1100). Oh what a time, to cruise down the streets at the age of 4 with my father in the driving seat. That when one really reaches the pinnacle of one’s life!

They could chew up piston rings if you over used the revs. The Honda S800 was not quite so interesting, but made more sense as it had a simpler rear axle. Another little gem from Jay. Love it !

Nobody makes better engines than Honda! They’re absolutely bulletproof and you can modify them six ways from Sunday to get more power out of them!

The S600 reminds me of the sound of the motorcycles, late at night, racing up and down the local freeways near my home.

Although the rotary engine fires 3 times per rotation of the rotor it only fires once per rotation of the crankshaft.

I am not sure if this is the Honda engine that cast the cooling fins and their cover all in one piece with the head! That was in of itself one of the coolest manufacturing tricks ever seen That NSU also cool in Germany those were in all of the kids hands when I was there. One last brag... not my first accident but a one of the first accidents I had was a RO 80 blasted me in the back. Before I could say Wankel I was hit by one on the autobahn.

WE carnuts like the sound. In 1964 it would have been a hard sell to American public. (S600 Honda) If they didn't say it in this vid, the S600 was 1500 lbs? It still seems high. I would look at it and think, 1250 lbs. Roller crank and rear chain drive may have been heavier than I know?

Fiat produced that Millecento for a full decade! 1953 to 1962. Afterwards was a 1100 R between 1962 and 1966. So it was actually even longer. But the tradition of this car class at F.i.A.T. was even longer as they started with the Balilla Mille in 1932 and evolved it to 508 Millecento in 1935 and to Nuova Millecento in 1938, which was produced to 1942 and then again from 1946 to 1953. Until the model series shown here started.

Actually the germans meaning nsu did later perfect the wankel engine, but gave up on it, and vw helped turn nsu into a revived audi nameplate taking fwd tech and all with it.

What year was this interview? Jay is 68 now - this footage must be almost 7 - 8 years old? Was this featured for Season 22 in 2018? Wasn't this footage taken from your Season 14 (or earlier) shoot? Looks like Jay is wearing the same clothes / watch and some of the backgrounds are the same from that season of shows.. It looks as though Dennis is wearing the same pleated pants / shirt / hat as in the Season 14 episode 2 (Jay Leno's projects). 2008 on the registration sticker for the NSU.

It's like trying to tell someone your favourite song, book or movie...Impossible
