Jay Leno fires up his insane Tank Car and takes us for a wild ride around Los Angeles! Recorded in 2003. #JayLeno #TankCar #JayLenosTankCar #BlastoleneBrothers #BlastoleneSpecial #JayLenosGarage #Tanks
Trying to imagine living in that area of California and seeing these cars casually roll by every so often and just shrugging it off like " Ohhh, there's Jay again "
That exact thing happened to me several years ago. I was driving near the Burbank airport ( which is where his garage is ), and pulled up alongside someone driving an open cockpit steam-powered car. The driver was wearing a leather helmet and goggles and i was trying to get a picture and realized "oh that's Jay Leno!" lo!
@@PapaBear816 No, if you're around Austin you're ok. But come on, what is going on with California these days? I last visited in 2017 and it's changed, for the worse. Not the gas prices, the homeless/vagrants/beggars. Geez....it's disgusting. I hate to see a child out on the street. Where are the social services???? This is why the Conservatives make fun of Cali, they exist in this states, but not like this
The thing that's so cool about Jay Leno is not just that he's got the most amazing car collection, it's that he can find something to appreciate about virtually any car. Doesn't matter if it's a super-rare Duesenberg or a 1971 Toyota Celica or a Hemi-powered Dodge Coronet or some fantastic custom like this.
This is a Hot Rod travelling at 30 mph. It just doesn't seem right to go so slow in this thing but I'm really happy to see this 1800 ci creation actually running and driving so smoothly! What an incredible a feat of engineering. Jay brings out the kid in all of us!.
Ok, but seriously, I found this way more cool than I thought I would. I'm just impressed by how NICE it is, and how well everything came together to create an actually GOOD car. Excellent work, @ everyone who put this thing together. :D
Jay when I was in the Marine Corps I worked on the M60 tanks, they had four oil coolers two for the engine and two for the transmission 25 gallons of oil for the engine and 25 gallons for the transmission
Even though old footage.......... Jay and Dennis having a blast as always.........how cool would that be to hang out with Jay driving the tank car.........👍👊
Jay never did a video of this incredible machine, which makes your video the definitive work of record. 500 years from now automotive historians will be watching this trying to comprehend how the hell this car came to be.
Shot on DV, 4:3 Standard Def - 1080p would look *wrong* on this thing. I'm watching it in colour, the colours of a beautiful California day, but I'm seeing it in flickery black and white :-)
Used to visit Michaels Leeds garage in Santa Cruz. Believe I saw the original tank engine during one visit many years ago. Another visit Michael was working on converting an old fire engine into a hot rod. It's a fun garage to visit. Met Grubbs one visit too, he was working on another art project, laser cutting glass.
I see Per Blixt's fuel injected 300D sitting unrestored in the background, that is so cool! They must have filmed this shortly after it arrived at the shop
I wonder if Mr. Gage is the one who reply's to the RU-vid comments; He is the kindest, most down to Earth and the most intelligent car enthusiast on RU-vid!
The camber on the front wheels looks like its positive, Was this intentional or just the video messing with me? Love your stuff with jay, always cool to see what he has done!
I love how one the crew cars one of those saturns that not one survives today. Remember my mom had one and always thought it ran funny. She then got a 2004 Saturn Vue that had a Honda engine a AWD. That thing was actually pretty powerful, I guess only a couple years Honda and Saturn had the deal
Jay suddenly looks a lot younger? Is this old footage? By the way: you must be living a dream, I admire your work and love your style, you make us dream.
I know it is now called the Tank Car because the engine came out of a M47 Patton tank, but to me this will always be the Blastolene Special as I came to know it when it was built more than 20 years ago.
Rediculous ride. Gotta appreciate Jays's love of cars. His knowledge is profound in the specs and history. Who would of thought this 2003 vid that gas prices ($1.65) would be $4 more today.
I guess the ground clearance is just fine but it looks a tad too low in that department. Stylistically speaking though as far it's stance it's perfect.
