The way this video is structured is how I've always wanted lesson videos on youtube to be. Quick cuts and plenty of supplementary charts and tabs. So hard to retain information when just listening to the instructor speak. This extra makes the lesson so accessible, Thanks Jens!

I've seen many of your videos. Many are too complicated for me, but this one is just brilliant! If I were you I would strongly consider delivering more lessons at this sort of basic level for some time before perhaps then taking more of us with you once we have these fundamemtals more firmly in place. Clearly, jazz can be anything from what you have presented here to what, for most of us, is hugely complicated. I will relish future lessons if they are at this level. Thank you very much for this one.

Even the pop up ads to learn guitar 'the easy way,' i.e. no theory, no reading, no practice, no guitar, no arms, no legs - just tab are more complex than this. Heya Jens, been a fan of your videos for years. I had a question about "true" improvisation. I see some folks describe improv as 100% spontaneous, whereas lately i've been seeing more and more people describing it as having quite a bit of a solo prepared ahead of time, and the improv comes in to embellish what they've prepared. Care to comment on written vs improvised solos? as in how much should be prepared vs on the spot?
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen 2 года назад
Maybe listen to the same songs both as studio and live recordings or several recordings of the same song and then see if you find that the solos sound written or improvised. I think you are misunderstanding this and making the wrong conclusions, but a bit of listening will most likely get a more realistic perspective.

I have a question? started playing guitar in the late 60s. When I was learning chords I never saw a chord labeled such as G7alt. Does that mean any kind of altered chord or a specific chord? b5 or #5 I’m guessing! I’m seeing in more and more the last few years. Thanks!
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen 2 года назад
G7alt means a dominant from the altered scale, so no perfect 5th or 9th and any combination of b5, b13b9 and #9.
@maxwellshammer5283

@@JensLarsen What’s the altered scale. On a G7b9 I usually use an Ab melodic minor or a diminished scale or sometimes instead of a dominant chord, say in C, I use a Db7.
