Tim Metz really enjoyed the video of the jazz stuff very helpful to know, but I'm well informed about this concept as I've been teaching since I was 16 yrs old, but real handy to show student's.

Hello Mr Tim. I come back to your videos often for inspiration. Jazz drumming is not only the tools of technique, swing and feel, but inspiration. Get the tools together and explore what inspires your creativity. It could be anything; art, landscapes, family, religion, literature, and always music. Listen to every kind of music. This simple clip is as inspiring today as it was six years ago and will be thirty years into future. Timeless. Keep pushing Tim, you have a great vibe. Inspire !

what i love is that Tim presenting the idea of accents as cadence absolutely is the door to walk through to get to phrase orientated heaven freeing us from the bonds of lick orienated hell..........mess with the voicings and orchestrations in the bar to get infinite variations. and tunes..great job Tim! ...and thanks : )

The thing I really like about your playing Tim is how you working your wrists and fingers to create the stick speed and reduce the physical effort in your performance great drumming ! there are a lot of bashers about that think drumming is about how hard and how loud great video

Tim, rudiments played with accents moving round the kit are a great tool for any drummer, I was brought up on Buddy Rich so I can apply my drum skills to Jazz Rock Funk Latin etc speed when needed is built up through practice, you play with no effort which to me is a mark of a great drummer

Trey Stine I'm always in awe after watching the old school cats like Buddy Rich or Tony Williams. Jazz drumming teaches grooves, fitnesse , dynamics , coordination etc. It's much harder than say ...double bass and blastbeats , but persistence is key !

Nice style, I guess it is a jazz thing to use the bounce and buzz on the snare like that. I have become strict on myself to use the middle and ring fingers in a full controlled bounce, but I don't think I could do what you are doing here. I will remember this if I am ever ready to play jazz. Nice work my friend

Thanks! Well, they are being mic'ed. There are two Cheap Audio technic a AT2021's for overheads and an Audix D6 for the BD. Most of the sound though is from the drums themselves. There is nothing better than a Gretsch USA! The only tips for making it less choppy is to practice with a metronome and make sure you're getting the right triplet sticking. It can be a little daunting trying to play it slow at first, but if you let your mind go and just think about the accents, you will get it!
