Tesseract is a really underrated band, One, Altered state, Polaris, actually every single song of every single album is a truly unique and beautiful ear candy for Prog and complex music lovers.
Not to mention they’re all very talented and one of the few bands that pull off not only timing but the execution of vocals live are comparable to the album. Normally live there’s obviously different circumstances regarding performance but they’ve never disappointed. Incredibly talented.
Anthony Kerr Absolutely nailed it. They make extremely complex music, while keeping it musical and groovy. They could go on and jerk off with a barrage of notes and fills and crazy time signature changes, but they don't. They actually aim to make good music.
Great description! The first time I listened to them I kept waiting for the crunching and it never happened - but I was banging my head the whole time. LOLOLOL I immediately listened several more times trying to figure out the time signatures - nope, Postones wins, I lose. hehehe
Yea but Meshuggah is definitely the wrong example. Meshuggah uses incredible restraint as well. They're probably the most disciplined and refined extreme metal band of all time as a matter of fact. A much better counter-example would have been Dillinger Escape Plan, Oceans ate Alaska etc. if you were looking for chaotic, or "nuts".
Tesseract’s Altered States album is an absolute masterpiece. I can listen to it on repeat for days. If you liked the second song you listened to, you’ll like the album.
Oh yeah Tesseract are one of those quintessential Djent/Modern Prog bands from the past few years. Very nice music you should check their music out in your own time!
I’m glad you got round to doing this vid, Jay is my all time favourite drummer. He streams regularly on twitch so you can go and ask him questions about his playing or ask for song requests and he just learns them by ear on the spot it’s wild. Nicest guy you could imagine as well
Best sounding live band I’ve ever witnessed. Not the wildest physical performance, but you can hear every ghost note during a live show which is just mad impressive.
Crowd following is so difficult in prog gigs, there's the AALs video from brutal assault where javier guides the crowd how to clap to time in that weird part in cafo
Seeing you make all the same faces we did when we first listened to Tesseract is great! Glad you finally got around to checking out Jay and enjoyed Tesseract
So glad you enjoyed these guys, man! Absolutely incredible band. Excited to hear what you think from your Spotify listens! Altered State is a masterpiece of an album.
I love to see you loving TesseracT as much as I do. I don’t think I’ve watched one of your reaction vids where you were even this close to excited about a band you were watching. They’re that good live too, so go see ‘em.
I love seeing you react to these bands that I've listened to for years, and always known they were doing some weird shit with time but not having a clue what, to then watch a much more experienced and competent drummer have the same reaction is very reassuring
Saw them live front row next to stage years ago in Boston and they immediately became my favorite band and still are today. I went to the show for animals as leaders, but left in shock of Tess.
Ive always said tesseract are the perfect example of complex simplicity. You always feel that groove but you can peal back rhythms and layers constantly. Love your channel duder 🤘
Bro....so glad u finally did tesseract! I have loved that band for years bc it is EVERYTHING a drummer wants to hear while still being able to disappear in to vocals and song.
TesseracT is one of my favorites! Jay streams a bunch on Twitch (mostly drums, does some game stuff) if you want to see more of him. Polaris is my favorite album, Cages and Dystopia being my favorites off of that, but One is a fantastic album as well. What's really nice about seeing you react to them is that I understand that they are "fucking time up", but knowing when they do it in these reactions and seeing you react the same way to the music at the same parts just validates all the time I spent listening to them. Thanks!
thaaaaaank you! i, like others, asked you to check him out months ago. there's something so smooth about jay's play, and he's a super nice dude too. all of their work is great, but Altered State really is a masterpiece. please do more.
I’m so glad you listened to nocturne as well (the second song) it’s such an amazing work and I love Jays “loose” flowing cymbal work, the way he splashes in accents and all the little chime and splash cymbals he sneaks in are awesome
So glad you decided to do Tesseract. They are a fantastic band that does lovely music! Also great to see you get kinda lost in it just because you like it :D
TesseracT is just an absolutely well rounded fantastic group of musicians so very good! U need to see them live for sure then your mind will truly be blown lol
I love the fact You realized the guy was killing it on the drums so You didnt analize much but just enjoyed the performance, that's the step print of a humble musician 🤘🏾 love your videos, upload one where You actually try yo play what you just reacted to! That'd be cool!
Yeah!! Spotify up Concealing Fate from their first album.... It's magical!! And there's a video of them doing it all love in the studio... Very impressive!
Ah! Dude, I'm so glad you finally got around to checking his playing -- but not only that, the band TesseracT! And I'm super glad you want to go check their music out, because they are absolutely incredible musicians all around, and incredible songwriters. They are definitely their own thing in that space. Their whole discography is pretty awesome. 'Altered States' from 2013 was an incredible record that that they did with singer Ashe O’Hara (classically trained -- fucking angelic voice) if you want to hear TesseracT screamless heh. But I love all of their stuff. The singer Dan has some incredible solo music as well!
I got a water mug just like yours. Bought it in Kentucky and it says "moonshine" on it. Also, it wasn't filled with water. I love Tesseract by the way. So much talent in that band.
I went to a festival in Paris, end of 2014. It was called "Damage Festival" with the sickest line-up one could wish for this genre of music, and they were playing that night. I didn't know Tesseract very well before, but man, they gave me the biggest slap in the face I ever had during a live show, and that's telling something !
listen to their album "One" I'd describe it as Djent with nu-metal and tool influences. The first lyrics to "Concealing Fate Part IV - Perfection" are like a lost, early Mudvayne record.
Really? That sounds interesting as fuck. I saw them years ago at a festival but never really checked their music despite having a good time watching them.
@@zero_zero107 Mudvayne was incredible for a while. Put aside your distaste for nu-metal and give a good listen to what they were doing. WAY ahead of their peers.
This one was my favorite so far. Us fans know TesseracT rhythms in our blood, to see you get lost in it and just dig it was very enjoyable. -austinseven
Awesome video man thanks for introducing me to these guys! If I may drop a recommendation - JD Beck & DOMi. JD is young as hell and SUCH a unique beast. Love it!
Jay is one of the best drummers to come onto the scene within the last decade. Him and Baard from Leprous are two of my favorites when it comes to recent drummers.
