this was actually a drum track matt wrote start to finish then sent to tosin for "reworking into a song" and tosin was just like "nah ill just write over this exact thing." so this song technically IS about the drummer. Not disagreeing with you on tosin though. He is the mayyyyyyyyyyyyn!
Matt Garstka will never lose the pocket. He's insanely consistent... Also you should start analyzing the music in your videos, us musicians would love that #futileheadbobbing
It'd be awesome to see some Gavin Harrison reactions, the man is phenomenal. He's won many awards as a rock drummer but considers himself a jazz musician at heart. Check out his jazz/swing chops playing Killer Joe or So What, or some darker stuff like Bonnie The Cat.
Matt Garstka is such a nice dude. He took the time to respond to a question I asked him in an email once. Didn't expect such a humble response let alone a response at all. I highly recommend any of his instructional lessons.
I took a private lesson with JP Bouvet when he suddenly filled in for Matt Halpern on the Fall/Winter 2017 Periphery & AAL Tour. As I was one on one with JP, Garstka walked in the room, and was jamming to my groove I was playing. I nearly shit myself, but it was one of the coolest things to have a lesson with a God and to have another God walk into the room at the same time. *With that being said, check out JP Bouvet if you haven’t yet! Not metal all the time, but I’m sure it’ll come someday lol
Loving these videos. I greatly appreciate the non exaggerated reactions. So many reaction channels they over do it and you just keep it real. Keep it up!
Really appreciate your honest, and experienced take on the few videos I've caught.....I swear like a trucker as well...plus, I've been a playing professional for 30yrs ...looking forward to more reactions....just might do my own reactions as well ...cheers!!
Been waiting for this video! Also it's great that your channel is blowing up! One of the best drummers I've ever seen is Alex Rudinger, you should check out him playing "Storm." Blows my mind every time
Rudy is one of my fave drummers, too. First saw his work in "Where Are the Birds" with Good Tiger, and just keep getting floored by his work. His kit always sounds phenomenal in every video!
@@vahnn0 Right?? I found him through his cover of The Lotus Eater, and then fell in love with about every video on his channel. Once you fall down the Rudi rabbit hole, there's no going back. Xenochrist, Tethys, Coldly Calculated Design, and just about 3 dozen other videos would all make for great reactions/analyses in my opinion. But in the end, Storm is the one that gets me the most
I like the point you made about dissecting your sense of time and then hitting that groove. There are so many ways to establish contrast in music and that's what makes it great. I've never considered this particular case.
Congrats! Love the channel, you deserve more buddy!!! Not a huge fan of reaction style videos, but I like your honesty, genuine reactions, and technical critiques. Good shit!!!
Has anyone suggested Gojira’s song “The Art of Dying” yet? I’m curious to see your thoughts on the opening couple of minutes of that. I’ve listened to that song dozens of times and can not comprehend the drumming. Check it out!
I'm very glad some metal sites have been featuring you so I found out about you. Watched a ton of videos already, love getting a non-metalhead perspective on this music. I'd love to see you react to other genres too especially ones you already know and love. Hope you don't get too tired of doing metal stuff. Cheers
Some reaction ideas: Chris Pennie- Come to Daddy Terry Bozzio playing the black page 1 & 2 Annika Nilles - The Walk Snarky Puppy - What About Me? - Larnell Lewis learned the show on the plane to the studio, and you can see an awesome save and great ears at 5:56 Elliot Hoffman - [Car Bomb] - Meshuggah Tour 2014 - Multi-Track Alex Rudinger - Conquering Dystopia - "Tethys" Pepe Silvia w/drums - by david dockery
MGŁA@Mgła-Exercises in Futility V -Darkside-Brutal Assault 2019 (Drum Cam). You will love it, that's where Darkside beats the sh'it out of not only chinas but all the set. The ending is especially spectacular.
Fuck yeah dude. I love your channel and how you break down the time signatures. Very informative even for us guitar players.🤘🤘 Please, please, please keep doing these vids.
If you want a cool drummer to check out, try any of Jamie Saint Merat's studio compilation videos for Ulcerate's last few albums. Genuinely one of the most unique drummers on the planet right now, has some of the most dynamic and intricate passages I've heard from a metal drummer basically ever. Otherwise, he has numerous live drum playthroughs on Relapse Records' RU-vid channel; his playthrough of "Everything is Fire" is, well, fire.
you really should check out Matt's project with Josh de la Victoria!!! its called 'Victoria' Meinl uploaded a sick video of them playing one of their latest singles called 'Kepler'
2:10 - I don't know that that's true. Tosin Abasi, the guitarist, started Animals As Leaders and it was definitely more to show off his skills at first but after the first album, he basically just gets good musicians to do what they do best.
I was going to say the same thing, this drummer is off the walls but that is because the other talent in the band need this skill level. Tosins stuff is crazy though guitar sounds like 3 people playing but tosins can play it by himself
i love your videos man haha you have the same vibe i have. your snarky puppy review was so relatable haha i remember seeing them live and MAN it was insane. KEEP IT UP
Thank you. It's hard to do in one viewing, which is how I like reactions to be...maybe I can do a post analysis after the initial react for some videos but I'll try to add more when I can. This one is particularly complex, I was grasping for something semi intelligent to say because I was so speechless about what just happened lol
React to T H I C C daddy Alex Camarena, Drummer on Silent Planet. There is a Live performance that has a drum spotlight on the song "Afterdusk" GREAT CHANNEL! Greetings from México
You'll get a lot more subscribers that's for sure. You're a very knowledgeable guy who isn't annoying and doesnt pause videos. Volumes are on point, what's not to like? Cheers for the content!
Matt blew my fucking mind in concert. I had no idea what I was watching. He flogged the shit out of everything within his reach. Check some live clips, it's wonderful.
