PLZ LIKE AND SUB Been really excited to check this guy out and he didn't disappoint. Amazing technique, insane control and beats that I totally don't understand lol. Thanks for stopping buy!!
I’m SOOO glad you did this!! There is a vocalist, but his flight got cancelled last minute. Like true performers they still played! I highly recommend “Car Bomb - Elliot Hoffman - Drum Cam - Lights Out”. That song, “Lights Out” is a clinic on time signature changes and tempo changes that still hold a song together.
Dude you've gotta check out their song spirit of poison. My legs hurt just listening to the second half of that song. Theres a video of one of their sets that has 4 songs back to back including spirit of poison. If I remember correctly youtube doesnt handle links in comments too well but the video's called "Elliot Hoffman - [Car Bomb] - Meshuggah Tour 2014 - Multi-Track" Edit: The lineup is a vocalist, guitarist, bassist and drummer but in this video the singer couldnt make it to the show (i forget why, i think it was a passport issue) so they decided to just do an instrumental set
Dude, You saved me the trouble of typing out all of that myself, appreciate it! I wish there were more high quality playthroughs of the w^w^^w^w material, as though all of their stuff is mental, the ridicilously mind bending intensity of that album resonates the most with me.
@@iancraig5415 that too - I would certainly preorder a wild ass colored vinyl, or imagine a hoody entirely enveloped by the album art? Most of all, I hope they release something new soon!
To answer your question, I'm barely a drummer but if I can call myself anything it would certainly be a metal drummer. Life has landed me in a grindcore band, which is a genre I don't even listen to but it's fun to play and gave me the opportunity to finally learn to do blast beats. We have released some stuff independently but we all take the band as a hobby so don't expect to see us blow up and play festivals anytime soon.
Hey lord! Yo that’s sick that you’re so grindcore stuff. So we are kind of in the same boat learning stuff that’s out of our comfort zone for sure. Good luck with the band my friend, I’d love hear some sometime! 😊😊
Had the pleasure to see Car Bomb on Sunday opening for Dillinger, was seriously in awe of seeing this dude live. I still can't wrap my head around being this tight with this style of music and not playing to a click, Elliot is just that good To my knowledge, a lot of their music is written in 4/4 then screwed with afterwards, adding and subtracting sections to make it sound so screwy
Aaaaahhhhhh that makes a lot of sense cuz just as I thought I was getting something it felt like the rug was pulled out from under me. Thanks for the info!
Michael Dafferner - vocals (2000-present) Jon Modell - bass (2000-present) Greg Kubacki - guitar (2002-present) Elliot Hoffman - drums (2002-present) You also will want to check Elliot Hoffman - [Car Bomb] - Meshuggah Tour 2014 - Multi-Track.
Ya I’ve heard that one is crazy, I gotta check it out. Also I really wanna hear one with vocals now considering i thought this was a instrumental band 😂🤦♂️
cool reaction dude, elliot is such a cerebral drummer. im going to recommend your next reaction to be Kevin Paradis from Benighted if you want to see blast beat techniques pushed to the absolute limit with moeller/push pull!
0:42 I'm a metal drummer :) This band does not use a click. I can't wrap my head around that. For an in-depth rundown of all kinds of progressive metal that is hard to count, check out Yogev Gabay and his "time consuming" series. Here's a rundown of the Carbomb song "Sentinel": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_w7qpRWQ0kQ.html&ab_channel=YogevGabay
I've never played metal live, haven't owned a double pedal since HS. Most of my gigging and recording has been hip-hop and rock, and jazz has been a longterm study. But I'm exited hearing any new musical ideas, regardless of the genre. Elliot Hoffman covers artists like Aphex Twin on his channel, among other various genres. Jazz is definitely part of the package.
Not a drummer but always wanted to be and interested in it. Just saw Car Bomb last weekend and they were insane, the drums sounded awesome as well. Check out Zach hill if you want your mind blown. Very unconventional and avant garde in his music and approach to drumming.
Can someone plz explain whats going on in this song, so much of it was over my head. I was feeling the pulse but pretty lost in a lot of the sections lol. None the less this guy is absolutely insane!
Great to see You enjoyed your introduction to the madness that is *Car Bomb.* Their material certainly can be hard to grasp at first, but with repeat listens everything starts to click, even if not in a way that would let one transcribe some of that stuff 😁 Some of Elliots best videos have been recommended in the comment section already, so I will just second my previous suggestion - "Lights Out", which pays an homage to "Bleed" by *Meshuggah.*
@@raxr5705awesome ya totally dude, I’m listening to more now and it’s starting to make some sense. Definitely high level stuff! Thanks for the recommendation!
Best I can say is it's the opposite of Meshuggah- instead of playing with repeating/shifting/undulating patterns over a 4/4 time, they're playing with the meter itself
Check out Alex rudinger covering the faceless. He's a session player that has worked with a ton of great metal bands. And has been a stand out on RU-vid for years.
It's very very good. I recommend that you listen to Steve Shelton from Conffessor, the song condemned. It has a deconstruction of the theme that is sublime. Thank you
Car Bomb is just great. honestly what you need to check out is Lille Gruber's Arboreously Transfixed video. One of the only drummers who is on par w/ Jamie St. Merat Imo tho they are doing very different things
Hey, I would love to see you react to Baard Kolstad from the band Leprous. Honestly any videos of him are going to be good but I personally really like his playthroughs of Illuminate, Rewind, and Moon.
Awesome video, Elliot is the machine! I highly recommend watching this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bA6Cg6arEb4.html (guy did PhD on metal music), interesting from a theory point of view.
You might as well just play Car Bomb's songs backwards to achieve the same amount of mathematical discombobulation as they do forward.... There is a vocalist but I think his flight got cancelled to this particular show... I was going to play the spoons for them at this gig but sadly my tricycle blew a head gasket I have been a guitarist for 39 years and play Death Metal and Middle Eastern music but I am most known for playing muted spoon tracks on several thousand metal albums....
Lolol dude Ive heard of u! Your that spoon guy and legend has it the song “spoon man” was about you right? As for playing this stuff backward ya I was totally lost 🤦♂️
@@yarpyarp85 🤣☝️👌Funny you say that since I live in Seattle and have known that actual “Spoon Man” for years growing up in Seattle you saw him all the time… And SoundGarden did in fact write that song about that guy and that guy is literally the one playing spoons in that video… Sadly I am the lesser known Spoon Man of Seattle🤣
