The Jazz 3D that never was has finally arrived. In all seriousness, never expected this day to truly come. I've replayed Jazz 1 quite often through my lifetime and I really can see each religious level perfectly reproduced in Doom format. Also the Jazz 2 references. Pure awesomeness, I'll be sure to check this mod out when I have time. Thanks for showcasing this!
v9.0 has indeed released on ModDB with the following notes: "Fixed Flamethrower in water.....Added New Enemies.....Changed a few existing enemy sprites." I'll certainly have to add this along with D4V/Doom 4 Vanilla and Shadow of the Wool Ball & Rise of the Wool Ball to my growing list of DOOM mods to fire-up.
This looks really fun, and I think you're dead right, the music in Jazz Jackrabbit was amazing. It was composed by Alexander Brandon and Robert A. Allen. (Correction thanks to Two Games Joined), Thanks for continuing to inform us of excellent mods, Icarus!
Actually, it was Robert A. Allen for the first Jazz (only known for this game and Epic Pinball) and Alexander Brandon for the second (Unreal, Deus Ex).
Another reviewer pointed out that HDoom would be greatly improved by having the enemies spawn health and powerups after you F*cked them, basically like the glory kills in the normal Doom games.
Most impressive, very retrospective TC i have ever played. But since it's in First Person now, it's hard to tell if the enemy is attacking you from behind or not. They basically don't play the sight sound. But other than that, it's great! Jazz right here, is literally breaking a leg!... Turtles' leg.
I played this on Ultra-Violence and those turtles in the tanks are quite different. Same firepower but they stole Dr. Robotnik's supply of his egg-shaped hovercrafts. So they're a wee bit harder to deal with.
WOW. I never thought i would be hyped for something that is a mod for the granddaddy of FPSs, Jazz Jackrabbit was my first and potentially favourite platformer, seems that i was 5 years old yesterday playing it on the Win98. Thanks MODders for bringing back a very great game in the form of a mod. Such nostalgia!

It's funny that someone does a Doom mod on some relatively unknown DOS platformer. Was even more wild when some did on Hocus Pocus which is an even more obscure shareware than what Jazz Jackrabbit is.
How the hell did I not see this when video when you uploaded it bc this is exactly the nostalgia trip I needed. Familiar weapons (and some added ones), sounds, the good ol' Diamondus > Tubelectric > Medivo level order... And of course the music. Still good after all these years. Definitely checking this one out.
iirc the floating eye-sparks just slowly drifted towards you as you moved, unhindered by any physical barriers, and they fucking freaked me out as a kid too.
We all can agree, this mod makes justice to our souls that were craving for more Jazz Jackrabbit The level design of this mod evolved since JJDoom 2.1, the weapons feel good to use and the music still dope as fuck even to this day (Fanolit, Darkgroove, Medivo, Technoir, So on)
The bouncer was my favourite weapon actually xd. I mean, sure it wasn't very powerful but there was something really fun about destroying your enemies with some bouncy plastic sounding capsules.
Sonic RoboBlast 2: We just made a real 2.5D platformer without that shitty sidescrolling in 3D bullshit. Jazz Jackrabbit Doom: Hold my beer. Now all we need is a Shadow the Hedgehog mod for Ion Maiden to blow those two out of the water. I'd play the fuck out of that as Shadow was and still is one of my favourite Classic Xbox games and all time favourite Sonic game.

You know, I've often wondered what a Jazz Jackrabbit reboot would look like in modern times. Then I remember what they did to my poor boy Commander Keen. Sometimes, it's better to let games rest in peace. ... Oh, the mod? Pretty good. Nice vid, Icarus. :D
@@MechagirlSachiko I actually forgot about the GBA attempt. A shame, since ports were overall pretty good! Hell, Rayman on GBA is still one of my favorite middle school memories.
This will join Chex Quest in the line of goreless, lewdness-free mods I can use to get my young nephew into Doom without my brother killing me. Also, nice little nod of appreciation to Blake Stone! It's weapons were pretty cool and deserve more love.
This is a real treat for a Jazz fan like myself indeed, buuuuuut being one also comes with some nitpicks of my own: -The Bouncer is quite weak because in the original has a more useful propose because well its 2D and its usefull for enemies like the Sparks (yeah that's the name of the floating electric eyeballs) they go through the level and most of the time they are quite hard to hit if you dont do it inmediatedly you have them in range, they act as the Boo's in Super Mario just that they are sentient electric sparks of energy. I always thought if Jazz 3D was a thing this weapon could had been like the Quake grenade launcher but with options of upgrading it with different elemental cell properties like a ice grenade, an incendiary grenade, a wind grenade that when explodes generates a mini tornado, because just translating the bouncer as it is in Jazz Jackrabbit, yeah is just a peashooter but instead of going straight it bounces off walls. -The Toaster is a "fireball launcher" instead of a flamethrower its the first Rocket Launcher in the game, but its just a slightly beefed up Blaster but with a bigger projectile, never used it in the original game because well its just a bigger blaster anyway, the flamethrower variant here is quite nice but i could loved if the main fire is this big flaming ball of destruction that when impacts leaves a firey shockwave behind and does splash damage and catches enemies on fire in the process, and the secondary fire being this flamethrower. -Im not sure about Jazz having different kinds of weapons instead of having different types of ammo for his LFG-3000 (yeah that's the name of the big blue pencil weapon he has) the weapon in canon is supposedly to be multi-function and having the ability of using all kinds of ammo (a lazy way of saying "we aren't going to take the time of doing all sorts of different running animations and such with different weapons so a omni weapon it is!") take for example the cancelled Jazz 3D he has his LFG-3000 Blaster but he finds 2 different "cells" that proceeds to give you different types of firepower if you mix and match with other weapon "cores", also Jazz having a straight up Uzi reminds me of Jazz Jackrabbit Advance and the only thing i liked from that game was the pink rabbit gal the rest can go an burn in a fire for all i care. -Supposedly you fight Devan the main antagonist from the games at the end of each world as like some sort of Robotnik (Eggman) fight and each and every one (except for the Metal Sonic Jazz robotic ripoff fight) are exactly as easy as they are here, just keep shooting and avoiding the easy to remember pattern of attacks and you are golden each and everytime, so they nailed this one out at least, but i was expecting you had a fight with a boss that could use the 3D enviroment at its advantage like having hazzard enviromental attacks, the stage changing as the fight goes on, the enemy starting to change to try to beat you and so on. -Also i love Jazz and its my always to go character of choice in any of its games but no Spazz? no Lori? not even making Eva Earlong like getting tired of being kidnapped and then grabbing a gun and going full on Daisy on those shelled bastards? like total Medievo on their asses (and no Spazz and Lori arent Jazz children i think they are his brother and sister, at least with Spazz i used to know he was his brother so i dunno if im wrong here or things changed since Jazz 2)

Hey Icarus, got a good mod that you haven't covered and just got it's last update. Doom RPG SE is a salvage project of a dead mod that adds a ton of content, a hub, includes the Roguelike Arsenal and Rogelike Monsters support, mods that can enhance or transmute guns, summons, turrets, overshields. I've been using it with the Maps of Chaos and it's been great, going to be trying it with Oblige and ObAddon to create custom maps to make it a more expansive experience. LegenDoom lite can still be used to make random monsters legendary. Alltogether it's a joy of a mod and has become my preferred go to just because of how much is there. Random loot containers with RNG items and a hacking system give it a bit of a borderlands vibe. If you do play it, a tip on hacking a box: every pip does something good accept for the orange ones, the green pip is what unlocks it. There's no manual, so that system is a tad non-intuitive without a good bit of experimentation.
"electrical place again?" medivo is the last lvl of episode 1, letni is the first one of episode two. Suprise? For sure for betrayers who have not been playing jj1 >: O
Here's my minor nitpick if you're finding yourself a little short on them. When a mod total converts like this, little things like not making a unique set of switch graphics kinda stand out like a sore thumb. Minor again- I mean the original Jazz had mechanical switches kinda like that so I get why the creator didn't reinvent the wheel, but still it's the one thing that stood out to me. Banana out of 10.
I would like to see more map recomendations from you Icarus, since i've been searching for map-packs for my dad, since now that he is working from home he can play doom (purist way) and he tends to enjoy playing, tho obviously sunlust and such are kind of frustrating for him XD
"Purist" might be stretching it here. Between the required jumping and 3D floors this is obviously a GZdoom mod (unless I'm missing something,) so might not be a fancy free as you're looking for :)
Hey Icarus, would you be able to do a video going over the map packs you like to use? I know you usually mention them in the description, but I would be curious about your taste in map packs.
Here's a nitpick: Guns look WAY too detailed for such cartoonish environments. Let's not forget classic Jazz's gun was little more than a blue tube that kinda resembled a permanent marker. Furthermore, I don't recall that many enemies in JJR that really gun for the player. I realize this is a Doom mod and that's what Doom enemies do, but they don't seem to mesh too well with the playstyle of Jazz Jackjabbit, giving it a much different identity. :/ -Mad Wolf

Hey everybody! Hope everyone is doing well this crazy year! So, here's an update. A doom modder got in touch with me about polishing up the mod and adding a few maps of his own. I jumped for it and said yes, so keep your eyes open in the near future for another release of Jazz Jackrabbit Doom. There's also a demo of Jazz Jackrabbit Doom: Holiday Hell Hare I released in July. The full version will be released around Christmas! Hope y'all are enjoying the mod. This was such a fun experience, especially being my first mod. Y'all be safe and well.
pls, someone make a doom mod about Icarus, where he fights/tests doom mods including his voice lines, which makes him a badass 80s youtuber.. or something like that.
First thing I did with this mod was change a lot of the sounds, especially the jump landing sound. Was tough finding sounds ripped from Jazz Jackrabbit 2. Wish I could figure out how to do it myself...
