JB Weld Cracked Block Follow Up - Does That Really Work 

Know first hand JB weld works on a cracked block had a guy who didn't have antifreeze in his car cracked the engine block on his station wagon. My father who was a mechanic told him get a new motor. He didn't have the money yet and kept pestering my dad who finally only half seriously said throw some JB weld on it. They just cleaned it and put it on with no prep work like you did. He drove the car several more years until it wasn't worth repairing and the JB weld never failed. Made me a believer.

It does work. I had the same thing happen to me. Smaller crack maybe 4 to 5 inch long. JB weld worked pretty good and it salvaged my season.

I repaired my leaking toyota Camry block with Jb weld.....Total fix!!! Water leak fixed and the pressure is now up and running for over a year now!! Love my JB, Just use it properly and it will pay off!

Best part is all the people who talked shit and left nasty comments can suck it. Glad to see it worked.

who gives a crap what others say or think mate...watched both videos mainly coz im trying to find some feedback on metal epoxys coz i need to stick something together which i think is a lot easier than what u had to do so made up my mind about jb weld...screw ppl...if they think they know so much better...post a video to prove it...thanx for the videos mate...been a real great help...all the best from spain

i used jb weld on my aluminum radiator once, it was a quick fix and did the job.

I believe there is a time that JB Weld is an appropriate product to use for a repair. In your case, there was no pressure to speak of where you crack developed. The pressure was from water freezing and expanding, that pressure is no longer there. The next important aspect of "should you use JB weld" is to do the PREPARATION PROPERLY. I recently read where a fellow uses super glue while a vacuum is used to put in the crack BEFORE the JB Weld. I believe most failures of JB Weld are due to improper prep work and the wrong application. It was also appropriate that you keep those pesky people off the inner tube .😂

JB is good stuff. BTW, if you want another idea for rust, you can glue in a metal panel using Lepage's Polyurethane caulking. Not the construction adhesive, the sealant! It used to come in black, white or grey, but all I can find now is grey. Obviously get rid of as much loose rust as you can, glue it in from behind and let it set up as close to 72 hours as you can, in warm weather. The patch should be there pretty much permanently. I've used it to hold together plywood carts that held a 2 or 3 hundred pounds of laundry and they stayed together until the plywood started to delaminate. I used it to fill a small finger tip sized rust hole, smoothed it with a wet finger, and it stayed for at least 3 years, until I sold the car. I did not find the DAP product nearly as durable or strong bonding so all bets are off for that product, but the Lepage's is like a flexible rubbery JB Weld for being tough and versatile.

My marine mechanic will use JB WELD to repair lower units that have cracked due to owners not draining the oil and water for winter storage. I use JB WELD KWIK to fasten a 10 - 20 round magazine box to the Savage Axis floor plate after I cut a hole in the floor plate.

I would suggest cleaning with meiotic acid before JBwelding any cast iron cracks. It will etch the iron crystal structure as well as eat out any iron oxide that has formed. Just rinse the acid out extremely well with something like asatone or mineral spirits (paint thinner) then heat to evaporate the chemicals. The problem with JBweld is once you do it, it's going to make the proper repair almost impossible due to weld contamination. So if your gonna try this, do it so it will last as long as possible.

This is good to know, I forgot to drain the water out of my 77 K5 mud truck, and the block cracked in 2 places. I don't have the money for a new 350 small block, and I haven't gotten all the parts for my twin turbo LS build yet.

JB Wells a good product I’ve used it quite a bit but it will not work on exhaust manifold. Too hot burns out.

What JB weld is really good for is glue things together... So when I JB welded my cracked block... I put a layer on, then stitched across the crack with pieces of copper, and then quickly put a thicker layer over that all while it's still wet. You can even use pennies or sheet metal or even screen or whatever you want. Just reinforce it across the crack.

J-B marine weld did not work on my 2.5hp nissan outboard motor. a peice broke off the power head and i tried to rebuild the piece that broke off with jb and it broke right off

JB Weld is a brand. You need to state what exact product you used.

Just watched your other video of you using the JB Weld. I am assuming that you had a crack in your water jacket on the block. You did great preparation prior to using the JB Weld where other videos I've seen they just slap it on with little or no preparation and then shoot a video complaining that it doesn't work. Drilling a " stop hole " at each end of the crack shows you are using your brain- good job. I had a boat with an inboard-outboard Mercury marine engine in it. What they say about a boat owner: " The two happiest days in a boat owners life is the day he buys it.... and the day he sells it " lol I don't know how many hours I spent working on my boat engine but if I had $5 for each hours I'd be very wealthy now. I hope your repair continues to work for you, I don't want to see you fry your engine. About the winter freezing your engine causing the crack - just a thought, drill and put a drain plug on the lowest point on your water jacket so you can completely drain ALL the water out before winter.
