One of the biggest annoyances of the Flip series is they have a tendency to suddenly brick themselves for no discernable reason. I've lost 2 like this. One day you turn it off like 1000 other times and it suddenly never turns back on, never charges again, and basically becomes a paper weight. Also, the Flip 5, with it's single speaker annoys me because it keeps spinning around when it's playing. The sound is also directional, so I really notice it when it spins to point away from me, or spins itself off a platform and falls. Finally, the mono sound is a big downgrade for the audiophile. It seems like a marketing tactic, so people buy 2 or more of them. Put together with the no backward compatibility, I feel JBL is getting greedy at my expense. I pay more and get less than in the past.
Simple answer no more JBL speakers unless JBL sorts out it's wireless pairing with other speakers. Is ridiculous that JBL has changed to the protocol and the last generation of speakers are unable to connect and given the latency issue an aux port is mandatory. So no sale...
Hi. I had a week Flip 4 AN and gave it back, I took Flip 5 gray TL and I do not regret it. Now the price is the same. The sound is really better, more spacious, mature, full and this bass is incomparable. Let no one fool the stereo in flip 4, two small speakers 2 cm apart, the effect only up to 0.5 m later it doesn't matter. If someone cares about conversations, on AUX and on connect +, then let them choose 4, and if only on music, it's just Flip 5 TL. Great fun with this speaker. I recommend and greet.
Wow! The microphone makes the Flip 4 fantastic. Being able to use Google Assistant to play things without touching or being near my phone makes the Flip 4 the better choice IMO.
Avoid the cheaper quality plastic driver flip 5 models with serial number starting w CS per JBL. GG serials are the mid model. CS float and have three decibels less bass and treble making them the least desirable of the three serial number out there available to buy right now. Find the TI serial model for beat sound performance per JBL. The TI is the best and loudest per JBL. FACT!
My jbl pulse 3 died a few months ago but today I somehow revived it, still as beautiful as the day I got it. Always have it on somewhere in the background like yours! 😄
The fact that I can’t connect to my older speakers really does piss me off so much. Honestly why would you do that jbl. I keep buying new ones because they can connect together. Now it looks like I have to stop
I personally don't understand their decision to get rid of the lid covering the charging port. I get that the charging port is waterproof this time. But this thing is meant to be taken around to outdoor locations, i would be afraid of sand or other stuff getting in the charging port, I'm very glad my flip 4 has the lid, it opens up to more areas i can bring it to
@@tegrqbruh4158 I don't think they will, honestly I feel like they do this to make people buy their new speakers. There are better brands out there and the only reason I would stick to them is if my current speakers connect to the new ones, that way if I make a party I can use all my speakers at once, that compatability keeps me as a customer.
Great presentation as always the flip 5 is a true audio speaker with no bells and whistles. The charge 4 is simply awesome and the flip 4 is still a great speaker. Waiting on a JBL FLIP 6.
JBL is HOPEFULLY gonna do what I heard their going to do & put out a connect/partyboost compatible firmware update. This review was before they announced it due to customer needs/complaints guys. We'll see!
I honestly only got the flip 5 because of the usb c so I now only need one cable on me. And i knew it was a pain because i had 3 other connect+ speakers. But im good with that.

GOD DAMMIT! I wish I had watched this BEFORE I bought the 5! I'm taking it back for the 4 tomorrow! Thank you for confirming what I already feared to be true when I couldn't get them to pair. Flip 5 had a bare minimum mid to high frequency over the Flip 4. But as for connectability the flip 4 has more options. So I guess it's all about how you'll be using it.
guys flip 5 has the ability to use it with any smart phone take and listen Built-in microphone and call-answer button Not all of the sounds from the JBL Flip come from your music. There's a microphone and a call-answer button so you can answer phone calls from the speaker.
All I see is ppl complaining about it not being able to connect to other models or the lack of jack. Well I only want one of these, and I wouldn’t use the jack anyway so I would say for someone’s first and only jbl purchase this looks promising. Sounds a lot better than the 4 based on this video (that sound of the 4 made me feel uncomfortable, my phone sounds better). The charge does sound better, but I want a more portable one, so Flip 5 it is!
I have a question regarding flip 5's charging port. There is no cover on it .my concern is related to dropping it in water trying to charge it afterwards will short-circuit
I recently purchased the Flip 5. After I watched this video, I decided to do my own test to check for latency in the audio while watching videos, both from RU-vid and my Google Play video library. I tested on both wi-fi connection and strictly from cell network connection, and I found ZERO latency on the Flip 5 in the audio. Everything synced up perfectly with what was being said. I am running Android using Xfinity and T-Mobile for my test. I'm not sure why you experienced this problem, but I don't think this holds true for everyone. You may be unnecessarily deterring sales of this product because you claim a defect with the Flip 5 that doesn't seem to exist. Latency in the audio would be a big defect. What network were you testing yours on? I think it is more likely a problem with your cell or internet provider than an issue with the actual speaker.

Just gonna skip this generation. I'm happy with my Flip 4, Charge 3, Pulse 3 and Clip 2. The new firmware update for the Flip 4 softens the highs a little, improves clarity and improves mids and base a little. The new firmware update for the Charge 3 improves base at lower volumes and seems to leave everything else alone.
I still plan to use the case for the flip 5. When I play ball, I leave my speakers behind a bar under the rim cause the bench is too far away plus people can potentially steel it. So when it gets hit by the ball, it will have some extra protection. I also don't need an audio jack since my phone ( galaxy s20), doesn't have one. Also, great video. Godbless.
I've wanted one but didn't want to spend the money I ended up getting it from my brother who has owned it for 3 months and only used it for maybe 10 hours if that and it come with the box paperwork and receipt for $50 so you can't beat that I've always wanted the Sony SRS-XB43 but didn't want to pay 200 bucks I think they're very close and a lot of ways to each other but I still think if price was not a factor I would go with the Sony I think it has a little more base and sound level a little higher but all in all I think The flip 5 is well worth $100 it's good for the beach an camping or work and I think it's pretty durable and the waterproof is just plus in my opinion
is nobody going to mention that with the new party boost, you can only connect up to 2 speakers, as opposed to basically infinite speakers in connect+. when my friends and i have parties we all pair our jbl speakers together (3 flips and a boombox). now none of us can upgrade without losing this functionality. what a shame.
it can connect more than 2 even more than connect+. people just dont like how jbl is forcing partyboost into our faces when connect+ was good enough. nobody seemed to complain when connect got phased out by connect+
Hot take: SBC sounds just fine on any modern device and you certainly won't be able to hear the difference between it and aptX on a portable speaker like this one. I'm tired of reviewers misleading people that you're actually missing out on something by not having support for aptX, LDAC, etc.
I own a boom box, xtreme2 and a flip5.. the party boost is such a travesty. Why the hell is it not compatible with old ones when all are Bluetooth 4.2 If JBL thinks I’m gonna buy a party boost speakers again guess what? They lost a patron.
So let me get this straight, the only thing it does better, is it sounds a little better oh, and has USB type-c.... my flip 4 works fine, I was looking forward to upgrading. But I don't think there's a need to.
All the critiques people have on this i dont care about. I wash cars for my day job. Just need something that can be around water and i dont need to worry about too much and uses usb c so i just need one charger for my phone, switch, powerbank and speaker. I dont do phone calls alot and i dont plan on using an audio jack.
By the way as far as an audio jack the way I look at it it is a Bluetooth speaker which means wireless 95% of devices are capable of Bluetooth now what I think would be awesome is an FM radio option you know you have the normal flip 5 but make a flip 5 pro or something and give that one an FM capability and maybe add something else capability to charge your phone if needed like a battery pack then that would be awesome little speaker in my opinion

I've never been using aux connection, any party/connect buttons, microphone and so on I just need very loud speaker for cycling with friends also USB-C with faster charging is a nice addition. It's a pity that Bluetooth isn't 5.0. about latency I never noticed it on charge 2+ or friend's flip 4
I have a few Flip 4s and would love to add to my mobile speaker arsenal. As much as I want to pick one up, on principle, I can't support a company that seems to be intentionally gouging their customers by not making the speakers not backwards compatible. I'll wait a few years and see if they can settle on a pairing protocol. Even if you don't own any JBL speakers yet, you may want to also hold off until JBL can se been treating theier customers fairly.
Wow I knew it my flip 5 wouldnt connect to my friends speakers who had a flip 4 and a charge 4. I was so confused but I knew something was wrong with the older software's. Thanks for the heads up!
Samsung is taking advantage of the brand name, James Bullough Lansing is turning in his grave.. :( JBL was good with floorstanding and bookshelf speakers years ago, it's still sporting JBL Pro lineup but no "normal consumer" speakers to run with amplifier, only soundbars. When Samsung bought Harman and that way JBL and Infinity, Revel and so on it's been downhill since. Sad to see reputable brand of childhood die
JBL is acting as if connect + is some old technology which is basically new technology. No need to make party boost when connect + was already perfect. They just want your money.
You stated in this video that the JBl Flip 4, Xtreme 2, Pulse 3, Boombox, Charge 3, Charge 4 and the Flip 5 all have the JBL Connect Plus protocol built into them. The JBL Charge 3 actually does NOT have the JBL Connect Plus Protocol. I am only posting this comment out of helpfulness and have no desire to be disrespectful whatsoever. have a great day!
@@Kebsi1994 Yes that is true, you can update the JBL Charge 3 to support JBL Connect Plus but it does not originally have that protocol built into the speaker as mentioned in this video.
for me i dropped mine from around about 1 meter and it fell apart but luckily I could get it back together and luckily I had warranty because my first flip 5 died when it got put underwater
So if you were to buy this speaker you are you going to this speaker itself not to connect with other speakers so that doesnt apply to me but i understand why people would be mad
JBL partyboost it's useful but I think they have to keep the JBL connect+ because every years they told that this is the future ! And every years they introduce a new mod to connect speakers together and for example the flip 4 can not connect to the flip 5 !
Hi Guys Is the connectivity still a problem on the Flip 5 today? I wanna buy 2 for my son and Flip 5 should be great in Stereo pairing but if his 2 still cannot connect to other JBLs it sucks!
Why did you include a charge 4? The modes of connectivity aren't the same. I have several jbl:s. And the charge 4's are not compatible with the charge 5's. Do to "party mode". Keep them in their proper categories. Trick no good.
My phone has FM radio that uses the headphone cable as an antenna. I sometimes connect my phone's to my current two Charge 3's or one of my two flip 3's or six flip 4's to play FM. The obsolete firmware definitely makes me wary of JBL. Customer support is crucial and lacking from them.
At the moment i own a charge 3 and flip 4 and again i dont think its worth to upgrade. And i cant connect my flip 4 and charge 3 with a flip 5 wich is a big problem for my.
Just bought this for a hard of hearing person bc the T Mobile rep said it supports speaker phone capability. But sounds like that is NOT correct and they removed this option from the 5? Wow, backwards move.
