Check out our exclusive member site: goo.gl/M0nMT5 Part 6 and the final installment of living or retiring in Chiang Rai.
Join me on my road trip and let's see what Chiang Rai has to offer these days and whether a Category 1 RIPper could have a good life living there. We will check out some housing rental costs, interview an expat living in Chiang Rai and even go to the beach!
I will also give my final opinions about Chiang Rai and whether I feel that it is an option for retirees thinking about living in Northern Thailand.
Please become a friend or subscribe to this channel and you if can, link back to my website I'd appreciate it.

Really fantastic to have someone "we know" showing us around so thoroughly and conscienciously! Many thanks to you. I would love to have a look at Hua Hin, but may be over to see it for myself before you may get there! Would you care to share with us what new places you are currently considering for exploration? Thanks again!

thanks for your great vids jc, although married to at thai for 25 years i'm not an expat yet. our thai interests are centred around northern thai due our house being at mai-san lampang. so although i'm used to that terrain, lampang-chiangmai, you driver scared the shit out of me at the end. guess i'm getting old, lol. might catch up some time when i move over after my now impending redundency.

I gotta mention that I was sorry -- or maybe the word is 'alarmed' -- to hear that the Chinese are building a road straight into Chiang Rai(!) Ya gotta wonder if this development portends a sort of overwhelming 'take over' of the town by Chinese money and settlers. I do so love the Thai towns that have managed to retain their 'Thai-ness'. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

COULDN'T HAVE BEEN SAID ANY BETTER... At 28.44 on video, out of Thailand we all live in OUR own boxes. It's sad and the biggest reason I will be returning to Thailand with my family in a few months :)

Those thing only happen in big city like Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city) but also watch out for foreign scam. I don't know but most tourist said Saigon is pretty safe unless you walk in dark alley at night, not a good idea lol

thank you for your info. Someday if there is a long term visa option I will go over and experience the options of living in this beautiful country.

That was the point! There is no body of water within a day of Chiang Rai but they still call it a beach. Cute I think!

Just a question. Did somebody comment that they did not believe you that there are 3 different cultures? Again, thanks for the information.

No international flights into Chiang Rai that I know of and all domestic flights would probably go through Bangkok to any other Thai city you desire with an airport.

I like your interview style JC. You're very friendly and warm and you listen to the interviewee. its a pleasure to watch. Not all of your interviewees come across the same way. This gentleman hardly made eye contact with you when talking. Kinda off putting.

+pranee Yep got to get to places quickly before they change. But things will slow down and the brakes will lock hard. The economy is already suffering greatly and when the cash dries up so will the expansion.

I've been to one of the beaches in Chiang Rai before. The locals jokingly called it Pattaya 2. Some of the places have little platforms a couple feet over the water and you can soak your feet while eating and drinking a beer. It ain't fancy, but it was fun.

I am going to retire to Thailand but have a problem with heat. Is it a lot cooler where Stephen lives in the mountains and if so can you tell me where that area is located? I viewed your video on how to keep cool and I certainly appreciate your suggestions.
@EscapetoThailand
@EscapetoThailand 9 лет назад
+kltpzyxm1953 Thailand is at about the same latitude as the Dominican Republic. So looking for cooler temperatures is rather difficult. But the higher the elevation the cooler the temps.

What a nice little find this Chat Guesthouse! Thanks for the tip. I think I may have found my flop for a couple nights in Chiangrai this July. Do you know if it's possible to fly from there to Laos, possibly Vientiane? Or south to Phuket? Trying to plan a three week trip and need to figure how many places I can visit without going nuts.

Wow. Thanks for this info. I have heard complaints for tourists about getting ripped off constantly in transactions and theft. Would you know if this is happening in the Central or Southern regions?

It would be nice to give the prices in US dollars.
@EscapetoThailand
@EscapetoThailand 5 лет назад
Yes and I'm sure the people from the other approximately one hundred and 35 countries with their own currencies would prefer that as well. Keep in mind that when I mention the price in Thai baht that price will remain pretty constant whereas the exchange rate in other currency will constantly be changing. So watching this video after the fact, the cost would be inaccurate quoted in another currency. Have you ever tried just Google exchange Thai baht and your currency? It's not that difficult.

Is it worth talking Thai to people in the tourist trade because they all seem to answer in English.At one point JC you were talking Thai and the receptionist was replying in English,both a bit funny and confusing.

Only read book about VN? I was born and raised in Vietnam until I came to U.S. 12 years ago. You don't see southern Vietnamese marry women from other regions of Vietnam doesn't mean we have different culture. It like you don't see a Chinese man from Northern region of China marry someone who live in South China doe not mean they have different culture. Right? I seen plenty of Hue men and women marry people from other region of Vietnam.

@louyht7
@louyht7 11 лет назад
I'm Vietnamese and I disagree with you about different culture. I think you mean we have different custom in each regions of Vietnam. Well Vietnam have 54 different ethic groups, Viet people or Kinh are the majority other large minorities are Thai, Tay, Khmer (live in southwestern Vietnam), and Chinese-Vietnamese (mostly live in the South Vietnam) we called them Hoa.

If you have those kind of strict rules than maybe a western country might be a better choice. If that bothers you there will be all sorts of habits here that would drive you crazy.
