Heading to Northern India for 6 mnths just for a nice change of scenery then off to Nepal in the spring! Always remember that Thailand exists solely to rip off foreigners. You will always be secretly looked down upon by all Thais as a foreigner because Thai culture is extremely racist. The people are very fake. And the Thai smiles stop when you run out of money.
Don't forget after residing for 180 days in a country you then become liable for tax to be paid on income in that country.This is the case in a lot of countries

Air traffic controller in Korat..I’m here to stay with my Thai wife…I just went up to the national park in Nakhon Thai, and the fee was only 200 bt.. that’s a better rate than the 500 we use to pay.. please keep up your good work..choke Dee Krub..!
500,000 Baht is NOT a lot of money for a true self employed person with a functioning business. Let's see what will happen once the visa is available in the e-Visa system. This isn't designed to make life easier for retirees or married people, those have their options. Thailand made this rule so they could siphon off tax money after 180 days.
The 180 day rule only applies to Foreign sourced income and it’s different for Thai source income - “Any Income Created As A Result Of An Activity Taking Place In Thailand Is Deemed Taxable In Thailand In The Same Calendar Year It Is Received, Regardless Of Where It Is Paid Or The Recipient’s Tax Resident Status” (SOURCE - Personal Income Tax Thai vs Foreign Source Income ACCLIME THAILAND). They are calling the 500,000 THB a security bond so who knows maybe you will need a tax clearance certificate to get it back. Also Thailand has not changed the work permit requirement so you still need both a work visa & work permit to work in Thailand. 1) Expat Tax Thailand channel put up some recent Vids that go through all the DTA’s point for Thailand’s DTA’s with USA, UK, Australia. However Non of these DTA’s cover lump sums brought in for visa bank deposits, buying Condos etc. So as it stands money brought in for these purposes would be assessed for Tax same as any other money. 2) Most of the focus has been on Foreign sourced income but there is also Thai sourced income & to find a definition of that & who is liable look up PERSONAL INCOME TAX THAI vs FOREIGN SOURCE INCOME ACCLIME THAILAND. 3) Not many know Thailand has now become a Common Standard Reporting Country which is a global initiative to combat tax evasion. To find out what information CRS Countries exchange look up COMMON REPORTING STANDARD WIKIPEDIA. Thailand started CRS for high value accounts last year & expended this to low value accounts this year - THAILAND BEGINS COMMON REPORTING STANDARD EXCHANGE IN 2023 TAINA.
Okay, keeping it simple: Six month stay, Same time of year, Every year, For 5 years... Okay... no intention of extending the stay. 10,000 bht fee -- okay, no problem. Is this for every visit, over the 5 year period? Or is it a one-time fee, at time of application/issuance? 500,000 baht in documented funds. Still, no problem -- but need to clarify: -- 500k baht min. balance in my HOME bank? -- 500k baht deposit in a THAI bank? -- 500k baht posted as a BOND? ...these are all VERY different things -- have heard every version of it -- which version is true? And on educational pursuit -- does one need to be enrolled FULL time, for entire DURATION of visit? And what submittals are required to verify? Digital Nomad -- as an EMPLOYEE of another company? Or does this include free-lance pursuits, travel vlogs, etc. What qualifies and what are the submittals required? Of course, "the devil is in the details"... Is there any advantage to hiring an in-country advisor for the visa process? ...or, at THIS point, do even THEY know what, exactly, is required for approval? Again, this sounds great -- in theory. Would just like to know more about how it's gonna work -- in practice.
No one really knows how all this will pan out. Who would have thought Thailand would legalize marijuana? I do know a lot of Thai expats have now moved or are considering moving to the Philippines. Three years on a tourist visa then exit for 24 hours and start again. Thanks for sharing.
