Check out our exclusive member site: goo.gl/M0nMT5 Getting away from Chiang Mai's hectic, polluted and slightly dangerous driving conditions is great. The air usually clears as you get high into the mountainous North Country. Except during February, March and April. But it is still a gorgeous journey, especially for motorcyclists. Follow along with me for the day and enjoy our journey to Mae Hong Son. This time though I am taking public transportation. Let's see what Mae Hong Son has to offer.
Please become a friend or subscribe to this channel and you if can, link back to my website I'd appreciate it.

I live in the desert and when it rains it is like a miracle to me so I can relate. Even a bad day in Thailand seems kind of nice to me. I liked the lady who was feeding the turtles and the fish. So nice to see people involved in an interaction with nature... not much of that here in Vegas.

I do not live in only one place because I enjoy traveling to different places. I have lived in Thailand permanently for about 12 years now.

I spent a few days there back in 2002, funny when JC mentioned the river. At night it seems rather strange hasn't go the vibe of many other thai places but feels unique but i enjoyed the place.

CM is considered one of the best places on the planet to live but in reality no where is perfect. There are many cheap flights from CM. Maybe you could do a Video about flights available. I think you can fly to Phuket, KL and Singapore from there. This is the best reality show about life in Thailand and just gets better. Keep on JC.

Hey JC I know this is an older video, but I just wanted to say that I currently live in Mae Hong Son. I know it may not have been the most impressive experience you've had, but I think you came at the wrong time of year. Like you said when they burn in the dry season it can be very unpleasant. However if you come in the cold season it's quite nice and becomes very cool. I think you should come back in the cold season to enjoy the weather. It's a great town, and the lake is beautiful yet small.

I could also refer some good places to go here as well, such as places to sleep or eat. You could also go to a hill tribe village or the hot spring from here. Take a flight if you don't like the way here by road too. It can be quite cheap if you do a little hunting through Nok Air or Kan Air.

Man! Five hours in such tight quarters.I feel your pain. My trip up to Mae Sai (10 Hours give or take in a Van) has put me off Van's for a while. I'd rather take a few days and hoof it..Great presentation.I hope your throat is feeling better. Cheers

Nice to see the rain! Mae Hong Son seems like a nice quiet getaway:) Do you see many solar panels being put to use on your travels?

@Cerebus9 I try to do things the way people on my category 1 or category 2 budget would do things. Not about preference but about what RIPpers (retirees in paradise) would be able to afford.

@retirecheapjc We're going to have to start calling you Smokey Joe. Yep, this time of year you will find JC up in the Thai mountains looking for a nice Smokey retreat.An age old Thai remedy that has something to do with cleansing the palate. ;-)

JC i always look forward to your great videos but did you forget to film the long winding roads with mountain views on the way up? Maybe on the way down then if you're still up there. I was wondering if you would do a video during the hazy season. Your slight croakiness fits right in. Hope you get well soon. But please tell us more about the haze. My friend is staying at Eco village in CM on a course. He says it's ok there but some others came back from Chiang Rai with respiratory problems.

Sorry about your daughter getting ill. I recommend a motion sickness pill to anyone that isn't driving!

@GROTFO I only see the solar panels up in the villages off the grid. The are given by missionaries to hill-tribes who will sit and listen as to why they should convert to Christianity.
@fjt108
@fjt108 12 лет назад
Of course you told us enough about the cause of the haze but yours is the only real on the spot report I've found. My friend played it down because I used it to delay my trip (though I have business reasons too). Do people actually have breathing problems at this time? Sounds like it's a good time to hit the Islands. And then Songkran do you stay in CM for the festival?

@fjt108 My site is to cater to people who would have a limited fixed income and what their lifestyle over here would be like. They cannot just buy tickets to anywhere and jump on planes unless they are on my category 3 budget (over $1000 a month). Thanks for the compliments. I hope the content will improve even more once I get and outfit my van.

@RichVoyages I'd reply but I can't ... arrgh!

I notice there are flights to Mae Hong Son airport from Chaing Mai. Do you just prefer bus rides over quick plane rides? ;)

Minivans are the form of transport I would avoid in Thailand. The driving is often really bad. Accidents occur every day. The bus is a safer option.

Nick M Yes Nick. Something I warned about many times in my videos. Also included in all the safety tips I give my members.

JC, please ignore these ignorant comments. Some people really don't know what the quality of life means. I feel sorry that you have to put up with such nonsense when what you are doing is laudable.

JC, I'm curious, what town or city do you live in and how long have you lived in Thailand.
@EscapetoThailand

I won't dignify this question with an answer. Obviously you don't watch many of my videos or you wouldn't have to ask the question.
