I came across this thing but was a bit skeptical as it seemed really cheap compared to the other metal valve cover alternatives for the N55. Impressed by your knowledge in the video, you have gained a subscriber. Thanks for providing content in the F10 N55 world!
I have the ECS version. I had to clean 2 small burrs, nothing major. I did use an OEM Gasket instead of the included one. 4 months and counting. No leaks..
Hey man having issues with my ecs one right now, shop put it on and now it’s throwing 28a0 and when smoke tested smoke comes through, can I get in contact with you to share videos and maybe u could help? I have a feeling i need a oem gasket and need to put rtv or some other sealant on it. please lmk🙏
That looks nice and I always wonder why everything in BMW is plastic. I guess those engineers over there was told to save every ounce of weight. I need to replace the one on my N55 E70 soon. The whole vacuum side galley is filled with oil. I am looking into this cast aluminum now that I see how it looks on the engineer bay. Any issue so far ? Thanks for sharing this I been looking to see if anyone has it.
Nice! Appreciate the tips on the hardware. I got the aluminum valve cover for mine too and I’ll be tackling that in the next couple days as well as the intake manifold gaskets, ofhg, plugs and some Dinan coils!! Dealing with some weird throttle issues feeling like the car is being held back under light throttle. She’s got some leaks too so I figure may as well go through it and knock out these maintenance items and hopefully have her back running 100%!!
Oh heck yea! You got some good maintenance going on. That's excellent!! One tip just in case you have not come across this- After replacing the OFHG be sure to do the engine oil priming procedure (very easy, I just unplug the ign/inj harness connector at the rear of the DME, then give it one long crank, let it sit like 10-20 seconds, then 2 short cranks. Connect the plug at the DME back on, clear the codes, and you should be safe to start then)! This is very important. You want to get the air out of the oil circuit before you go start the engine :-) . Hopefully this takes care of that roughness you're feeling! After you do it all, you can also try the throttle adaptation procedure. Forgot how to do it but it's easy and there's How-To vids on here for it. Good luck!
@@turbospool Yes thankfully I’ve came across a few videos and posts on the oil priming procedure, Definitely the most crucial part of it all!! I’ll probably do the throttle relearn as well. Thanks for the tips brother!
@@turbospool did you figure out what the hex bolt is for yet?? I spent 400 on my wife’s x3 valve cover with lifetime warranty and decided to go your route for mine. Thanks for the layout of the bolts. I put them in place already and also was checking to see if I got all my bolts in the bag. My wife actually thought the aluminum one was more expensive by the look and quality. Looks more amazing in person!
@@freddieruger1 nice!!! And dude no i did not 😂 it just stayed in the bag and it’s in my workbench now. I found no need for it. So many in other platforms that use the N55 it gets used. But it was not needed on my F10
I actually WANT to put the cover back on just to decrease all the fine dust build up from living in Oklahoma. I just have to modify it to clear the new routing of my vent lines from the Bimmerhaus Performance intake. And zero issues with the VC! No leaks and the clear cost finish is intact despite the heat cycling .
Yes they were. From the failed vacuum canister on the plastic valve cover. I cleaned out the solenoid and it worked but for my peace of mind i did replace it
Crank case vent line is not affected by this. This aluminum valve cover is an exact casting of the original plastic so everything connects to it as it did from factory
you mean the black engine cover with "TWIN POWER" and the BMW roundel on it?? You don't have to use it if you don't want to. I don't use it because I haven't made my cuts for on it to clear the new routing of the crank case vent line and the suction jet tube line from my BHP intake. It's been off for maybe 2 years now lol. It helps to keep dirt off your valve cover.
@@turbospool thanks for the reply and also for the vid 👍 Did you say the pcv valve is easily replaced on this cover? Hoping down the track it would only need gaskets and valve replaced. If so where would you order the valve replacement? Thanks
@@boredaz10 it APPEARS that it would be easier to do on this one. Looks like the calp is clipped in place around the perimeter so you should be able to start unclipping and work around it til the lid pops off to access the diaphragm and spring of the PCV valve itself
Hey, quick question. So I just opened up the box with my aluminum valve cover and the PCV valve on it doesn't have the tip on it do the nor models not come with that?
This is probably something you want to talk to the vendor about. Possible missing item from packaging. Mine has a little vented cap on it like the OE does.
@@turbospool so I looked up a few of the aluminum valve covers on different websites for my car and a lot of them doesn't have that nipple piece sticking out of it
Hey, quick question. So I use the original oil cap from the original valve cover and a little bit of oil is leaking from the cap. Any reason why or what can I do to fix that? Or should I just put the cap on that came with the aluminum valve cover?
Unfortunately it has clearcoat over it , so you would have to sand that down prior to painting. Sorry for the sad news! Lol i wanted to paint mine too until I saw that.
@@turbospool oh man, that sucks lol. But I think I’m about todo the same thing to mine. Whoever owned the car before me did the pcv replacement but didn’t clock it right so it’s randomly getting the screech of death haha.
Works identical to the stock one. But it’s actually serviceable if you have to change out the diaphragm in the future. So no need to cut it and JB Weld like in the plastic ones
Not a dumb question at all. So BMW uses the same exact VC assembly for ALL N55s- be it PWG or EWG. This Aluminum one is based on that design so it can fit all applications. On EWG those two nipples are simple not used. Doesn’t hurt anything as that is just going to the vacuum chamber that’s integrated to the underside of the VC. EWGs don’t use that at all so you’re good.
@@Hennessyr24 ah yes! So i looked it over and I couldn’t see any cracks. But I also didnt take the time to clean it and shine a light to it to check. I just didnt see any obvious cracks. But micro-fractures could cause all this and not be easily visible. And the integral vacuum canister was FULL of oil. As you notice on the video I had tipped over the old valve cover to check the canister and oil had poured out of it.
@turbospool on my second valve cover this year, both elring brand with oil in the vacuum chamber , dripping oil from the boost solenoid and consuming about 1qt per 1k miles. Before the n55+ turbo up grade It Didn't consume any oil in 5k intervals, maybe 🤔 is the higher boost . Just replaced the vacuum pump valve ,the diaphragm was gone hopefully that solve my oil consumption.
@@Hennessyr24 wow!! Yea that’s a lot! If the new vacuum pump does not fix the issue, i recommend you do a compression test. It’s not a common issue with N55s but worth checking if this new pump doesnt fix it
