Another song from the 1938 film 'SWEETHEARTS' and another great tune from Victor Herbert. His stage show 'Sweethearts' was first performed in 1913 and proved a big hit. The 1938 film showcased the MacDonald/Eddy partnership. Both were in fine voice and MacDonald showed there was more to her than just a voice by demonstrating her talent for comedy and dancing.

It was really fun seeing Jeanette and Nelson in a contemporary time period. I wish they had continued in this vein after Sweethearts.

They were really in love in real life. And when Janette passed away in the 1960s, Nelson was so struck down from it and he passed away less than a year later. They say that couples truly in love pass pretty close to each other. My great grandparents both died within 3 months of each other

At this time they were expecting a child together love for each other is so evident absolutely divine this is a good lesson not to give up on people who you love and cherish they did that their whole life together

What a lovely comment, Bill. Thanks for sharing this story. I do agree with you that love between two people is wonderful and this song just illustrates that. There are some great songs which the pair sang together and separately........songs which endure and express true emotion. Glad to enjoyed this clip.

All I can say.... wonderful, I am so sorry she died in 1965 and Nelson passed away in Australia a few years later of heart failure. They both loved each other.

Nelson didn’t pass away in Australia. He had a brain haemorrhage while he was singing in Miami and died in the hospital next morning at 7am. Just how he wanted to go.

Si fueron enamorados pero la MGM no acepto el enamoro dellos y obrigo el casamento de Jeanette con Gene Raymond.Nelson fue al casamiento muito triste. Cuando Jeanette murio en 14 de enero de 1965 del corazon Nelson quedo arrasado .El murio tambien del corazon en 6 de março de 1967 en Miami.El estaba cantando en un show con Gale Sherwood cuando tubo un ataque cardíaco. Fue levado al hospital.y murio al dia seguinte.Nunca acepto la muerte de Jeanette el.gran amor de su vida

They were not involved off screen but certainly admired each other. They are very talented. Nelson is very handsome. and they are iconic as far as the movies go.

Actually, they were very much a couple. Jeanette is carrying their baby, and you can even see a baby bump in the dancing scene. You may find the book “Sweethearts” by Sharon Rich an interesting and factual read, complete with sources.
