Actually, the very best I ever saw was The President Show on Comedy Central, with Trump played by Anthony Atamanuik! It was only on for one season, in 2017, for 20 episodes, but no one ever nailed an impression before nor since, IMHO!

You can't compare his Trump to Baldwin's cuz he blows Baldwin out of the water. Baldwin always had that stupid look on his face that really didn't look anything like Trump. Plus, Baldwin hates Trump, it came across in his impression, and it's just not as funny, Ask Chevy Chase, Dana Carvey, Norm Macdonald, Darryl Hammond, etc.. But the whole show suffers cuz they go for applause over laughter. Weekend Update sucks. It's just the same "Republicans are racist, evil, idiotic, nazi's" joke over and over and over. But James Johnson does a great Trump. That much is true.

This new Trump only works because the nonsense that comes out of Trump's mouth every time he talks is comedy gold as a starting point. A realistic portrayal of his sons, for example, wouldn't be funny because they spout preprepared talking points, where their father does more of a stream of consciousness collage of things he's said a hundred times. It's very unusual to see realistic impersonations on SNL.
