I just rewatched the version from the Austin City Limits show, the guitar you were playing was like an Esquire with a middle pickup thrown in. What a great tone that had, you killed it, really is a moving solo Jedd, awesome job!

Hey Jedd, I was fortunate enough to find you through your recent gig with Tom and Guthrie. Better late than never. Your playing is really mesmerizing and beautiful and inspiring. I also think you're a compelling story teller, not to mention a great singer and songwriter. Sorry to gush, but I feel like I lose time while listening to your playing. Very cool. I just worked up a little arrangement of “For No one.” Big Emmylou fan here. I have learned so much about guitar and music from her songs. Really started getting into her music as guitar was starting to make sense to me.

This got me thinking about something interesting that might run through a lot of Emmylou's music. The G here establishes key or tonal center but in fact it could be the 5 chord, with the F being the 4 and C being the 1. Maybe who cares at the end of the day but sparks the thought process of why does this sound the way it does. I might make a case she builds the tonal center around the 5 chord which makes the 1 chord (the C) sound completely new and interesting. I know she's not the only person who has ever done this in music but to my mind helps explain a little bit more of her signature sound (or at least 1 piece of it). When I play a G scale with the flat 7th it sounds like the melody notes that are implied here. So maybe it's in G but in G mixolydian or the key of G7 (while we'r at it). I'm not great with modes and all but whatever it is, it's great - love way the melody speaks, those double stops and how you can keep it all in time.

Good news, I don't need lessons right now. LOLOL I actually never took one in my life, 50+ years playing guitar. I am a notorious copy cat though. It started early, watch, listen, learn.
