1997 Jeep Cherokee Mishimoto radiator, Stant 180 degree thermostat, Hesco high flow water pump, Hesco high flow thermostat housing, hood vents, trans cooler. Adding an oil cooler would also reduce engine temps in theory. I’ve seen this reduce temps by 5 degrees on other applications.
Lastly, some people claim a bad harmonic balancer can also affect cooling because it slips and thus turns the serpentine belt at a slower speed. -makes sense.

Very nice content here man! I’ve not seen or heard of some of your modifications you’ve shown. I will be putting some of these mods into my xj soon. it struggles with the heat here in Florida

ZJ clutch works with the mishimoto just need to adjust the top radiator mount a little. Also helps if you have poly trans mount so the whole unit doesn't move front to back. Agree on the power loss but it's not significant, and makes a big diff at low speeds. It's a good tradeoff, no longer need full electric for crawling and no more high speed heat like I had with full electric.
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
Maybe I’ll buy another model to try. I had a Napa one that I got part numbers off the Naxja forum and their was no way it would fit. I have poly motor mounts and the ZJ fan clutch would not fit at all. Negative clearance. Maybe a different brand ZJ clutch fan would be smaller…🤔

i basically have the same cooling mods except i have a stock style new rad. and a external plate style trans cooler with a 180° stant Tstat with the drilled weephole, and i also run waterwetter in the summer. same thing it all works great, no issues with the ecu, running rich etc. the Dorks on the interwebs freak out every time i list my cooling mods, its hilarious. theyd rather run hot on the edge of overheating because thats the way the factory did it, stupid. great vid, hope people learn from it, and you got a new subscriber👍

Same. It's nice having the extra head room starting a grade or crawl session at 180 vs 215. Sprayers are dope though, havent needed them yet fortunately.
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
Thanks. I totally agree with you. They say they run rich but I’ve never seen anybody test or post their AFR number change from a 180 t stat. What ambient temps does your Jeep see? I run this pig in 107f in the summer! I’ve noticed it runs waaay cooler in the 90’s. 100* plus temps are no joke. Everyone says the stock setup is the best. Sure it works with stock wheels and tires, no armor etc, but not with 35’s gear and hot SoCal weather.

@@fabguy276 awesome your in So. Cal, so I take it the 180 tstat doesn't give you any issues when you got to smog?
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 Год назад
@@jasons3721 fortunately it does not. I was a little though worried this last time because the weather was cold and the Jeep wouldn’t get over 185f. So I tried to get it hotter by idling for a while to no avail. Nevertheless she passed smog flying colors at a legit shop not too long ago and SoCal has really difficult smog laws.

Exlent modification
@NoName-yl3pb
@NoName-yl3pb 2 года назад
After getting sick of flushing my 99 xj cooling system constantly I made some modifications. I did the mishimoto radiator and electric fan. Hesco high flow thermostat housing and water pump. 180 thermostat. Here in UT the temps can fluctuate from as low as 15-20 degrees to 105-110. The fan controller on the mishimoto radiator lets me dial in when it kicks on in winter (higher temps) and summer (lower temps). Im usually fluctuating between 190-210 and never getting above 215 or so
@fabguy276

@@fabguy276 In normal traffic conditions yes. I haven't taken it to the trail yet during 100+ conditions
@RavenRedwood
@RavenRedwood Год назад
Sorry man I know it's been argued to hell and back but regarding the thermostat, it's nothing to do with emissions. It's set to 210 because the engine tolerances are machined to account for that exact thermal expansion so when you run at lower than operating temp there will be more wear. More scoring, more knock, more piston slap which the 4.0 definitely doesn't need, etc. Regardless of when the tstat opens, overheating is indicative of a greater problem. Mine is stock 210 and has no problem cooling once the system is open, even in hot weather. I only have vents because the bay gets stupid hot, enough to damage the injectors. (A heat shroud under the fuel rail helps a lot with keeping it from boiling over too). Either way the 4.0 is one tough cookie and a long as your oil is reaching the proper viscosity she'll truck on regardless. 👍
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 Год назад
I’ve never heard that information before and it makes a lot of sense. I’ll try to throw in a 195* with weep holes next time I swap it out. What size tires are you running?
@RavenRedwood
@RavenRedwood Год назад
@Fab Guy just 31x10.5, I haven't put a weep hole in mine but here's a relevant forum post: "You only want one small hole, otherwise your engine may pass enough coolant to not come up to operating temp in the winter. You would then have issues with low heat output in the heater and rich mixture when in stop and go traffic. The hole should be 1/16" or smaller."

How much additional vibes do those motor mounts produce and do you also have a trans mount? My trans and motor move around way too much. Thanks!
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
I have SFR mounts on the motor and trans. Not too bad but sometimes at a stop light I’ll feel it but it doesn’t bother me at all. The SFR bushings have a unique durometer rating and I suspect they are softer than other ones out there. Super happy with them! BtW… you should post more vids on your Jeep.
@moejr14
@moejr14 2 года назад
Does running a 180° thermostat affect your fuel economy? I’ve always heard that if you run improper thermostats that the engine uses more fuel to get to temp.
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
In winter time, yes gas mileage suffers a bit. I only notice worse mileage if it runs cooler than 195 which is only in 50 * ambient temps.
@Humorem15
@Humorem15 2 года назад
Did you plump your trans cooler in series or bypass the radiator?
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
Radiator is bypassed because I don’t want my trans temps to be 210f or higher. Both tranny coolers are in series. One has a fan on it. It would be good for cold weather though. E.G. in the winter my trans sits at 109f on the freeway: a lil too cold.

Love the spray nozzles on the radiator. Do you think they actually help?

@fabguy276 2 года назад
It will drop the engine temp about 5-7degrees F, but only for about 5 minutes. It helps me when I drive up steep grades in the summertime.
@officialWWM
@officialWWM 2 года назад
@@fabguy276 that still sounds like it’s worth the effort. I was out on the trail yesterday. The temp was 34c and I had a long slow crawl up a steep, rocky hill. My cooling system didn’t like it so I’m on the hunt for solutions, lol
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
@@officialWWM I wonder how hot your trans temp was??? I noticed that high trans temps also effect the engine temperature. It makes it difficult for the engine temps to drop unless you pull over and let it cool down..
@fabguy276
@fabguy276 2 года назад
Knowing what I know now, probably 250 Fahrenheit. I also agree on sometimes you just have to pull over, especially after going up a steep grade. Even opening the hood can be necessary as well.
