looks like the return port on the fuel filter is in the wrong position. It should be in the 12 O'clock position (top) instead of at the bottom (6 O'clock)position.
You should swap the carter carb for a 2150 motor craft new old stock. I sid this on a jeep 258 and installed a HEI distributor. Massive improvement, throttle response and power increased dramatically. That would make a great video.
Thank you for the video Dave. I noticed while watching this video that you are the perfect height to work on the CJ-7. I always do the weird stand on the bumper. Lastly Devens CJ would look amazing in that old CJ Sun Yellow or Vintage red.

I’m doing all of this on Monday. I have a ice cream truck every part is of for 84 cj. Glad to know I don’t have to rip the carpet up to get to the gas sending unit. Looks like I can just install it to the gas tank when replacing it! Nice video
Great video guys!! I’m trying to take my tank down to clean it(it’s been sitting for 12 years) on my ‘85 CJ7. I’ve got my jack holding up the tank and I’ve got all the nuts off except 2!! My question is how do you hold the top of the bolt to keep it from spinning. All of the others came off pretty easy but I cannot get the back middle one off and one on the front side as well. Very frustrating!! You guys made it look so easy. I’m jealous. Great job on a beautiful jeep:)
I could swear that the Jeep looked to have found another parking lot to die in after that last video. Is that right? That CJ looks pretty darn good considering the years it has on it. ...Looking forward to seeing how that "little body work" and some paint turns out.
melodicdreamer72 good eye bro - yes two different parking lots 😀 I'm amazed that even being up in Alaska the frame and tub aren't rusted out - possibly they didn't use salt back then on the roads. Yeah looking at a quick paint job - well see what that looks like .
Thanks for the video. So I have the same problem. Did all the same things (new sending unit, new rubber lines, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, etc). At first try it pumped gas upstream of the pump.... so I happily hooked it back to the carb and now it doesn’t pump at all again upstream of the pump. What was your next troubleshooting step?
So was it just randomly dying while driving? Mine is doing that as well right now and I am trying to diagnose the issue. When it runs, it sounds smooth but will randomly stall out and then not start. Now it won’t start at all.
@@7elo7him7 My 76 cj7 dies and will start back up and go did you find out what it is ive replaced the ignition switch the ignition coil electric fuel pump regular fuel pump fuel filters spark plugs headgasket and air filter and vacume lines still stalls oh today tried iso heat fuel treatment also not fixed . please bro if you found out what it is help a brother out.
@@TheLordJesusChristChannel I figured it out It was my fuel sending unit! I dropped the tank and it loooked like someone hit it with a torch The fuel tank also had rust floating around so that didn’t help either I cleaned out the tank and replaced the fuel sending unit bam back on the road
