Step-by-step guide on how to charge up and refill AC Air conditioner on Jeep Compass SUV ( 2011 | 2012 | 2013 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | SPORT | NORTH EDITION | LIMITED | 4WD ).
Recharging your air conditioning system is actually quite easy. If you want to save some hard earned money purchase an A/C Recharge Kit which consists of ac recharge hose and usually 2 cans of a/c refrigerant (freon). Good thing is that ac recharge hose with the gauge can be reused as many times as you wish. That means for every other recharge you just need to buy the ac cans.
To start charging the air conditioner connect a/c recharge can to one side of the a/c hose. Connect the other side of the hose to the a/c low pressure charging port on your Jeep Compass. Pierce the a/c can by turning the knob all the way in. Start the vehicle and turn a/c on, set blower to maximum and set air circulation inside the cabin. Proceed outside and turn the a/c can upside down. Start unscrewing the knob and your a/c system will slowly be charging. Make sure to keep monitoring the gauge on the a/c recharge hose. You don't want to overcharge it and damage the a/c compressor.
Depending on the amount of the a/c refrigerant in the system, you might only have to top it up or use even up to 2 cans. Once done, disconnect everything and install the cap back onto the low pressure charging port. If you need to use more than 1 can, repeat the process shown in the video.
In case there is an a/c leak somewhere in your system, this will not work for you as the freon will leak out how you charge it. In that case you will have to take your Jeep to a mechanical shop as they have the tools and equipment to diagnose where is the leak coming from.
If there is only a small leak, you can try using A/C Leak stop which might take care of small seal leaks and lubricate the a/c system.
