In this video, I replace the CV joint on the front driveshaft, out of my 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited.

Bast practice is to grease from one side only until the grease comes out the other side. This way, you know that there isn't any trapped air in the bearings.

Teraflex actually recommends cleaning the bolt holes free of grease so it doesn't counteract any of the threadlock on the bolts, excellent video though!

I've just changed mine. i had to tap mine into the spline too but you have to be very carefull and make sure they line up. if you look into the joint spline recieving area there is a tiny section where they are no spline grooves (boot side) So even its seated on the spline it may not be 'lined' up, get in with a torch and line it up properly before you start pushing it through!

Place tape over the bolt holes before greasing to eliminate/minimize the grease going into the bolt holes

That may work! The tape may not stick though. Worth a shot!

I couldn't be farther from being an expert in this but I think what doesn't go in the bearings you're supposed to put in the boot and end cup. Pretty sure you were good the first time.

I recently did this on my Jeep and 80ft-lbs seemed like a lot for those little hex screws. I looked it up in the service manual and 80 ft lb is for the flange side bolts. The side that goes to the front diff. The CV joint bolts are only 24 ft-lbs. Maybe that's a screw-up on Teraflexs instructions side of it but I thought I should throw that out there.

Hello friend, I believe you have those numbers backwards :) he states in the video that the hex screws are 18 ft-lbs (though the onscreen text says 15, at 21:48) and the actual bolts on the other side are 81 ft-lbs. This is also what TeraFlex has in there instructions (15 ft-lbs for the hex screws and 81 for the axle side bolts) also seen here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gxw_iO9zuRM.html at 8:32 and 9:03

I'll never understand why people that have never done something before make video tutorials. This one seems pretty benign but I've seen several that make a job much more difficult than it should be.

It shows people that even if they’ve never done a particular job before, that they can in fact do if. It’s motivation, and inspiration. It also helps people gauge the difficulty. In all honesty, most of my videos are my first time doing a particular job. But I have a lot of experience doing a wide range of tasks. Just look at my channel at the number of videos I’ve uploaded.

Hey Cliff, did you ever have a popping noise when you accelerate it from a dead stop before you replaced at CV joint? My 2015 jeep wrangler is doing that from time to time not consistently every time though

Before and after. I’ve had that since buying the Jeep 2 years ago. For me it’s more of a thump than a pop though. I haven’t been able to figure that one out yet!

True! I used to skip past parts like turning the wrench in my videos, but people complained that I wasn’t “showing what I was doing”. So now I include all the steps. Even the ones I think are not important.

For me, the boot got a tear in it, and all the grease flew all over the underside of the Jeep. But the joint can also wear out. If you’re getting wiggling or play in the joint, then it’s worn out.

We diagnosed it when we went into 4H and had a rattling noise…like a playing card in the spokes of your bike. A friend told us to go under and try to wiggle the joint. If it moves, we needed a new one. It moved and here we are 😂

Omg dude, it doesn't all go in bearings. The rest goes in the boot and cap. Lol
