Could the 4.7 Stroker damage the automatic transmission on a 2001 TJ due to the horsepower and low gears?

Hi Dale, what lint free rags are you using and where did you get them? I’ve tried a few different rags even microfibers and all have left some fuzz behind on bolts or wiping down the block.

Great video!!! I referenced your previous series of engine videos alot to help me rebuild the 4.2L in my '84 CJ7 this past spring. The only real difference in those engines is mine has a carburetor vs yours with fuel injection.

I'm rebuilding my 4.2 in my 84 CJ7 as well Rodney! But mine has the Howell EFI installed so I don't have to mess with the carb. All I have left are radiator hoses and drive shafts and I should be back up and running with my 4.7!

I watched all eight segments this afternoon! I really appreciate your channel, Dale! I've been toying with the idea of doing a stroker build on my 2.5. Besides warning me not to do that,(LOL), do you have any tips, or secrets I should be aware of?

Nice video Dale, I have always just used break in oil to lube rings and bearings. Going to prime the system any way before ya start it Saves a little cash but hey that's me cheap as a $5.00 suite.
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 2 года назад
Yeah. Break in oil would be a good option.
@anglegrinder
@anglegrinder 2 года назад
Ive heard that using assembly lube on the rings can cause them to not seat correctly, and can even cause glazing. Hopefully that isnt the case, and was just a weird scenario. Ive always used a low viscosity oil such as fogging oil or even wd40 and had success.
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 2 года назад
@@anglegrinder This assembly lube from Red Line specifically says safe on pistons and rings. Although I think break in oil would be another good option 👍🏽 but yes, make sure what you use is safe. Don't want to ruin your work.

Flip the ring compressor around so the larger side Of the flange faces the engine block. It will allow the rings to go further into the cylinder without slipping off of the piston. Good series I enjoy watching it.
@moabwheeling1305
@moabwheeling1305 2 года назад
Great job Dale , its getting closer to being done . The one thing I do different is when installing the piston into the bore I square the ring compressor to the block by tapping on the edge of it .That way it doesn't pop the ring or rings out of the compressor like it did for you on piston number one . Looking forward to your next video sir . Take care my friend.

what is the making the 4.0 into a 4.6?
@Gaston.-
@Gaston.- Год назад
Going to a 4.6L requires boring out the cylinders .030 over for bigger pistons and using a 258 Crankshaft. The crankshaft gives a bigger stroke than the stock setup.

Thanks! Making good progress on it. My thought is I wouldn't do a stroker on a daily driver. But a weekend Jeep, it can be fun!

@@JeepSolid thanks I enjoy watching your videos not too many people make quality videos on how to fix up the yj jeeps. I've had mine for about a year now when I got it would die all the time when the clutch was pushed in now it runs pretty good but does burn a bunch of oil and fifth gear is about useless but over all not a bad project to work on as money and time permits

I am a rookie at engine rebuild so your videos are helpful. Maybe I missed a prior video but can you explain stroker engines a bit more. I want to understand what that really means and when you would consider using a stroker engine vs a regular rebuild of the inline 6 in a yj?
@edwardp4417
@edwardp4417 2 года назад
A stoker rebuild increase the stroke (distance the piston moves up and down) of the engine. Which gives the engine more torque. Which gives the engine more horse power.

I have. bolted the rods to the crank our side the motor. just use the flywheel. and. bolt on then set flywheel down with the crank pointing. up. it is a lot less work. i do not maybe some like more work. this has worked for me.

Was there a particular reason why you chose the short rods over the long rods?
@ccoates1064
@ccoates1064 2 года назад
fit. if one used long rods would have to use short pistons. if there are any made.
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 2 года назад
I went with the short rod because it is a bit more budget friendly and the difference in performance is very minimal when compared to the long rod.
