Hi Chuck. Terrific info. My right link ball separated in my 2000 Jeep TJ. Changing mine this weekend with a set of MOOG sway links. Disconnecting the top of good one and swinging the bar downward is a great idea. Thanks again for the info my friend.

Good afternoon and Happy Thanksgiving! How did the repair go? Have you got any tips or tricks that were not discussed in the video? I too own an '06 and I have confidence that my sway bar link is going bad. The one on the passenger side separates when I jack up the driver side front tire. I've also been hearing a clunck noise from that side when I hit small potholes or drive over changes in asphalt.

Torque specs from the factory manual for a ’99 TJ: The manual says to install and tighten in the order below. Sway bar bushings = 40 ft./lb. Lower link nuts = 70 ft./lb. Upper link nuts =45 ft./lb.

+Ricky Rogers Glad you like the videos! You can't go wrong with TJs. Their electronics aren't as simplistic at YJs. But, they aren't overly complicated either. Just one word of advise .. and to some people this is an argumentative subject. Do yourself a favor, stay away from the 4 cylinders. They are rugged and dependable little engines I will admit. If you want to go on a good road trip, that 4 banger will get old quick! I've driven several 4 cylinders, they are terrible at highway speeds and they get much less fuel mileage. The little engine has to push the weight along with the aerodynamics of a barn door, they struggle! If it's a city or trail rig only, the 4 banger will be fine. Hope this helps you! Welcome to the Jeep brotherhood !!
@ColinAverill
@ColinAverill 10 месяцев назад
Depending on the condition of the sway bar end link/stabilizer bar link, if you have a half inch impact, you can sometimes just use the impact to tighten the nut so much that the threaded part breaks off, making for one of the easiest ways to remove stab links. Problem is it doesn't work every time.

Cool! Thanks for filming this. My Tucson has some clunking going over bumps. Is it possible the bolts on the sway bar links can loosen up and cause rattle? As opposed to a bad boot.
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 7 лет назад
Possible, but not likely. They usually have a lock nut the prevents them from coming loose.
@SevereTstormFan
@SevereTstormFan 7 лет назад
Power Addicts - FixJeeps.com - Jeep, car and motorcycle tips Yeah thanks, I turned the wheel and reached under there. The sway bar link bolts and the boots are all fine. Mechanic said a bad inner tie rod was causing the clunking so I had that changed out, luckily it was warranty work even though they know I off-roaded with it. Still heard clunking. Took vehicle back to mechanic and they said the tie rod end is also bad. They changed that out and now the clunking is half gone. The shock and strut is also in good condition. I poked around under there myself and can't find anything loose or any worn out boots. I can't figure out where it's coming from, pretty frustrating. The vehicle also leans to the right a little when driving even after the post tie-rod change wheel alignment.
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 7 лет назад
One test would be to lay down under the front suspension with the engine off. Have a person in the cab, turn the key enough to unlock the steering wheel. Have them aggressively move the steering wheel back and forth. While you are under the front, listen for clunking sounds and track where they are coming from. If that proves not to find anything. Pick the front of the truck up high enough to get the wheels off the ground. Jack stands for safety! Start checking control arms and struts for excessive looseness. This is actually one of those things that's kinda hard to diagnose over the internet .. lol.

@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 3 года назад
Most of the time it is the sway bar end links like shown in this video. It can also be the control arm bushings or coils spring isolators. I'd change the end links first.

+Holice Meeks My son lives in Little Rock, so I roll through Memphis occasionally. I stopped at the Bass Pro shop last time on my way home. That is one massive place!! Really cool from the observation deck. I've got an engine on the stand about to do the same thing .. except I'm going 4.6 stroker. Probably start on it right after the first of the year. I plan on doing a very detailed video spread on the build.

hello.. i just replaced my 2 front end links because the passenger side already snapped from the joints. but after driving 2 blocks to test and check in my garage. the new end link from passenger side snapped again from the joint.. can u help me what would be the problem?thanks
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 7 лет назад
You have something binding. It would be super rare but possible the sway bar is binding somehow. Remove both end links, then pull up and down on the sway bar. It should be some resistance but it should move up and down. If that isn't it, take it to someone to look at it closer. That's one of those issues that can't really be accurately tracked down chatting though YT comments. Good luck with it! Have a great day!

So my end links don't have that on the end so I can tighten them down...they just keep spinning...so how do I tighten them down?
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 7 лет назад
Those I take a C-Clamp and press the pivot into the hole. This ... most of the time .. holds the shaft in place so it can be tightened. Those can be a pain sometimes.
@ryanferguson7509
@ryanferguson7509 7 лет назад
Loral Kinney ...get you a ratchet strap link one to the upper bar that connects to your sway stabilizer and then the other side to the left or right of the tie rod and start tightening it...it will pull it down and you can easily tighten the screw. I just did mine and it took 30 min to do both sides
