the running light does stay on when headlights come on, i do not know if there is a way to bypass this in the xj without a lot of custom wiring

Idk if you’ve solved this by now, but you’re essentially overloading the fuse. It sucks but you need to run a relay. You can still splice into the blinker lines, but you’d need to then run them to a relay and go from there.

@@Geetee3991 thanks for the advice! I can’t remember how, but managed to get them to function without a relay, but will probably ultimately hook it up with a relay for safe measure once it warms back up.

did the passenger side work before you did the drivers side?

these did not come with a true DRL, while it is true that i could have wired it to the ignition to work as a true DRL, that did not fit my needs, and the ability to turn my lights fully off is something i value. This is the simplest and most common way to complete the task

To call it a DRL is misleading. If you have to turn on your parking lights it also dims the interior lights. I have a double din and the added steps of having to turn the “DRL” on and set the brightness on my head unit every single time I turn my Jeep on isn’t something I will entertain. I understand your desire to turn your lights completely off but these are NOT Daytime Running Lights. These are headlights you wired to your parking lights. Everyone else on RU-vid wiring this way is as equally incorrect.
